Answer: This is not a guitar amp, but your could plug an electric guitar, acoustic guitar or bass into it.

Acoustic would sound best.

Recommend a purpose built guitar amp for electric guitar.

I’m completely blown away with this speaker. The sound is amazing. I’m very shocked by how well it handles piano. I’ve had keyboard amps that don’t sound as good. My only comment is it’s a bit pricey. Love the convenience of the battery power and being able to stream with Bluetooth.

TLDR: Great value, if you need a battery PA speaker pick this one. if you have complex mixer needs, step up to something else, or use an external one. I have owned my mobile 8 for about 2 years, in that time, its been used as a monitor, a Pa for an outdoor church service, and even managed to salvage a wedding dance when the house system turned out to be absolutely useless. For a tiny pa speaker, it puts out massive sound, it has lots of bass, and can get incredibly loud, but it doesn't really like to do both, there is afterall only an 8 inch woofer, but if you turn down the "eq" knob to 75-80% towards the music [bass] side, it will play bassey music at full volume. If you have wind noise, you can crank it over to voice [treble] and it works as a hpf, and its more idiot proof than a multi knob eq. The mixer is quite basic compared to some of the competition, but it has everything you need. Compared to the Mobile 12, the 12 has slightly higher volume, and when a b tested goes a little deeper, but both are incredibly clear and its really really close, and I would never trade the ability to use it as a monitor and the fact its like a third of the size for 98% of the output. I think, each paired with a sub would remove the gap. Pros: Tiny for a full range cabinet and fairly light weight, considering its got a battery inside. Versatile 4 lay down positions, or pole mount, small enough to put on a table or shelf if your doing a house party Clear sound even at max volume, no distortion at max volume other than eventually running out of bass. I do not worry about battery life, it just keeps going.... Cons: runs out of bass before it runs out of volume (pair with a sub if playing bass heavy music loud) Minor hiss when idling. not awful but its there when the everything is cranked. No side handle makes it slightly harder to mount on a stand (don't know if their would be room for one) Standard annoyance issues with bluetooth (mostly it deciding to unpair when you move the device too far or if the music is paused too long) Takes a bit to figure out how best maximize volume while trying to maintain a mix on the onboard mixer. (just use a mixer unless your busking or forgot something) And I completely agree with this other reviewer!: "And who decided to use dark grey lettering on a black cabinet. The controls are difficult to see even in bright lighting, let alone on a dark stage. The too-bright battery level light creates extra contrast to make seeing the controls even more difficult."

Overall, this speaker is very musical and gives a fantastic tone. I play piano, guitar and sing so finding speakers to handle the full range of a piano, and sounding good doing so, is very difficult. I went into my local store looking to rent a Bose S1 for a test run. My local store Manager, Stef, also mentioned the EXM8 at the same time so I, somewhat reluctantly, thought to compare them. Unfortunately for the Bose, there was no comparison, the EXM is the clear winner. The channels and inputs don't line up, don't know why, I had to use white out to mark the knobs so I could see the settings, again (DNW), but the tone of these things will absolutely blow your mind. Vocal's and guitars sound amazing and the piano dynamics are all there to be heard and admired. I ended up purchasing 2 of the 8's and a EXM sub to give my piano a bit of bump and now my house is alive with music again. I absolutely love the sound of my voice, my guitar and my piano through these speakers. I tried the 12's as well but found them to be slightly less musical. Do yourself and favor, listen to Stef and try one out, you may be amazed how good you really sound!!!

This little speaker is great. Sounds great, very light and lots of connections. The only thing it can use is a usb port for charging phone's and other portable devices

Hands down loud and clear quality sound system. Only downfall is wifi connection is difficult along with microphone. Not sure if it's a manufacturer issue but will bring it back to the store for troubleshooting as we have tried all options in the manual.

Sounds great, and the battery lasts a long time. I used it with a piano and vocals, and the speaker can handle the range of an 88 key piano pretty well. I like the reverb, but It could use more control over tone. On the downside, why are the three inputs not lined up with the respective controls? And who decided to use dark grey lettering on a black cabinet. The controls are difficult to see even in bright lighting, let alone on a dark stage. The too-bright battery level light creates extra contrast to make seeing the controls even more difficult.

I put one on hold as soon as I heard about it. I am usually excited by the next best thing and optimistic that it's an "upgrade" Luckily, because Long and Mcquade North York is so amazing and helpful, I was able to A/B them in the store with a bluetooth song from my phone. I heard good things but my EXM mobile sounded better to me overall. The EXM mobile projects further because of the 2 smaller speakers and the clarity is better as well. The EXM feels better quality-wise as well. The Mobile 8 is made in China. That also lowers my confidence in things. My advice - Get the EXM Mobile instead!

I own the EXM Mobile-8 and the EXM-400 and have friends who own the EXM Mobile-12 and the Bose S1 Pro. So far I have had the chance to try the Mobile 8 with vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar and bluetooth streaming, and compare it directly against the Mobile-12. The Mobile-8 is easy to listen to as it has a very clear natural and clean sound. Excellent for vocals and has a nice natural sound with acoustic guitar, especially with the built in reverb. Surprisingly it seems to handle the bass guitar as well. I took the unit off the speaker stand and put it on a carpeted floor to help dampen some of the vibrations for the bass guitar test. I tried the Mobile 8 against the Mobile 12 and the Mobile-8 was the winner, especially in the clarity department. And much easier to handle at half the size and weight of the 12. The Mobile-8 is designed in Canada and made in China. I would prefer it was made in Canada but it might be hard to compete with the price of other higher end PA systems like Bose, likely also primarily made in China. I have the Mobile-8 mounted on the Yorkville Mini Speaker Stand and recommend it as the mini stand handles the light weight well and makes it very convenient to access the input plugs and controls. I like that this will be an easy unit to use as a monitor, with no electric plug required. This has proved to be a great do-everything unit with amazing sound. Looking forward to trying it with the upcoming EXM battery powered sub and would like to hear two Mobile-8’s with the sub. I will also be comparing the Mobile-8 to the Bose S1 Pro and will update my review with the comparison results.

First off, I am a huge Yorkville speaker fan, but I am certainly not a “Fanboy”. I already have EXM Mobile speakers which I am very impressed with. I thought these Mobile 8’s would be a pretty big step up in performance, especially considering the specs Yorkville gives. That being I said, I just had to try them out and see how they performed in general but also how they stacked up against the EXM Mobile speaker. As a disclaimer, this review/results are what I had experienced and everyone may not share the same results or opinions. First thing I did when I got the Mobile 8 out of the box, was comparing it to the EXM Mobile. Comparing the two physically, I noticed right away the EXM Mobile felt like it was built considerably better/substantial/robust, with higher quality materials. In comparison the Mobile 8’s materials felt cheap and kind of flimsy. For the record the Mobile 8, IS built in China, and not in Pickering, which at this price point was rather disappointing. As for the performance of the Mobile 8, which for the record, I only tested using music playback, and not live music, (so can’t comment on that). The overall sound quality was nice and clear and a pleasant to listen to; however the bass was the most impressive. As a potential EXM Mobile upgrade, I wanted to test them side by side to see how they compared to each other. On paper, the Mobile 8 has a very clear advantage in power (watts) and in SPL (dB), so one would think there would not be much of a comparison. However the results surprised me to say the least. The Mobile 8 easily beats the EXM Mobile in the bass department, hands down, no real surprise there!! However when it came to the mids/highs, the EXM Mobile was just as good as the Mobile 8, if not even a bit better. With the Mobile 8 having a substantial power advantage, it was time to see how that advantage compared to the EXM Mobile in sheer usable audio output. Once again the Mobile 8 easily had the EXM Mobile beat in the bass department, but believe it not, the EXM Mobile had more output in the mids/highs. So much that it simply overpowered the Mobile 8, and with both speakers at full usable throttle, the EXM Mobile was easily heard over the Mobile 8, not what I was expecting. My final impression are rather mixed. The overall sound quality is pretty good, but for a $850 (was $729) battery powered speaker, that is made in china, feels cheaply made, and is simply not near loud enough based on given specs (especially compared to the much less powerful EXM Mobile), I have a hard time seeing how it’s worth the price of admission. I will certainly NOT even consider upgrading my EXM Mobiles to these speakers, simply can’t justify it!! If you’re looking for a battery power speaker, and plan to use it with a power subwoofer, I would suggest saving some money and going with the EXM Mobile. If you are looking for a standalone speaker, then I would suggest getting the equally priced EXM Mobile 12, not only does it feel considerably better built, but also has a lot better performance. Not sure if these speakers were rushed to market or not (maybe I got a lemon, or the internal components used are as cheap as the exterior materials are). Maybe it just goes to show how good the EXM Mobile really is, that or how unimpressive the EXM Mobile 8 turned out to be. However factoring in the build quality and overall performance, at THIS price point, the EXM Mobile to me seems like a poor value, and Yorkville should have done better!!!

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
