I’ve owned it for 4 years. Use it with a Godin XTSA on stage and in the studio. I set it up by going YouTube to see how to improve some of the sounds. There’s a great selection of effects but I also created some of my own effects and also use the USB memory stick to play full songs. It gives a rich sound to my gigs and surprises people when they find out it’s just one person playing. Wish the looper was longer than 20 seconds tho.

To be Blunt. If you have owned and played Marshall stacks, and Mesa Boogies, you will know what sounds your looking for! This unit will do it. Played on the road with multiple Genre Top 40 Bands for years. You can dig holes you will never crawl out of if you don't read and learn the parameters of this unit. That being said, once you learn how to tweak the powerful parameters of this unit, you will be mixing chunky tight Rock guitar, to warm 12 string guitars for just about any style of music. I blend guitar sounds with a multiple menu of foundation sounds such as strings, organs and pianos to have walls of powerful sounds to fill the mix with the illusion of multiple musicians. They say its cheating. If so! I say try it yourself. :) You have to earn it! Learn to pluck the passages for piano/string/acoustic for a realistic reproduction. "you don't strum a piano?" LOL. Set the sound to trumpet then play Tuba at the nut, bend trombone passages at the 8th fret or play staccato lines on trumpet at the twelve t fret. Its how you play each sound that gets you the best results. Been enjoying this unit for years. The only thing it will not do is reproduce the percussive overtones of slapping an acoustic. But simply strum or finger pick and it will sound like one. Cheers!

Use it in the Studio and on stage as back up for other players as well as working on recordings of my own. I used YouTube’s to set up the pedal and play with a Godin XSTA guitar. I wish that the looper would record a little longer than 20 seconds. Using the USB Memory stick option is great to play along with also.

I bought the GR-55 along with a Godin Multiac. I tried adjusting the setup but eventually over a period of a year I thought that the tracking was going to be so bad that it was essentially unplayable. Fortunately I found a Youtube video on how to setup the Multiac with the GR-55. It was like I had finally gotten the instrument and effects pedal I was hoping for. The correct setup makes all the difference!

I've been using the GR-55 as my only guitar processor for almost 4 years now. The only thing that will replace it would be a newer version. I run this unit direct to PA - no stage amps, I'm happier with my guitar tone than I have ever been. As mentioned the PCM tones do come with a bit of latency which I find is more noticeable in some sounds than others. it does take time to learn the unit and learn to play the synth sounds but it's so liberating to be able to cover so much ground with this one little device. I was a huge gear hound until I got the GR-55, but I'm cured.

Lots of fun and very useful and like any instrument it takes practice. Great sound quality and an excellent addition to the recording studio as well as being very inspirational to play.

This Synthesizer has replaced many of my older pedals, and the effects on this thing are really high quality. While it features thousands of options, and it is built like a tank, I do have a few issues with it. The PCM tones give you everything from a vibraphone to a harpsichord, however the tracking is still slightly noticeable. You hear the sound about 1-2ms after you strike the string. Also, if you don't hit every single note perfectly, or if you are use to letting certain notes ring, or if you like to slide to different notes, on certain tones it'll sound terrible. That being said, it's still a lot of fun, the effects themselves (like Wah and Reverb) are really high quality, it has an EQ you can electronically tune your guitar, it has a bass mode, and it works really well with recording. The COSM modeling on the GR 55 are perfect as well. While, it's not perfect, it's still the coolest pedal out there.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
