A Modern Boutique Experience for Serious Players

Fueled by BOSS's acclaimed Tube Logic approach, the Nextone Special delivers premium sound, feel, and tonal versatility for stage players who demand the best. Tube Logic reproduces the complex interactive behaviors of classic tube designs in every way, providing authentic sound and feel with punchy attack, natural compression, dynamic speaker response, and big onstage presence. The amp also debuts BOSS's custom Waza B12W speaker, which combines the tone of sought-after "blue bell" speakers from the 1960s with modern power handling capacity.

The Nextone Special's rear panel is filled with connectivity for modern performance and music production. External control is supported via the GA-FC foot controller, standard BOSS footswitches, and MIDI. There's also an effects loop, plus XLR and 1/4-inch line outputs for sending a direct feed to a PA, complete with three selectable mic'd cab IR voicings with Air Feel. A phones/recording output is available for silent practice and tracking sessions, along with USB for direct recording and communication with the Nextone Editor software. External speaker jacks are included as well, letting you connect up to two 16-ohm 4x12 cabs for even bigger tones.

Okay lots of reviews out there about this amp being very close to a tube sound, to me "not true". Yes better than most solid state amps but doesn't come close to emulating a top quality "tube amp" like Marshall, or Mesa Boogie. Maybe close to a lower end tube amp but still not the same response you'd expect from any tube amp. So it is what it is, a decent solid state amp with lots of features and settings. Also don't feel the range of tone adjustments are there, very little change 0-10 where a good tube amp has much more tone adjustment in the sweep between 0-10. I ordered this and it wasn't that easy to get one, so not really satisfied in the end. Just one guys opinion but seriously not a 5 star amp.

I have this amp. I play this amp. The number and feature set of the knobs make perfect sense for efficient and effective control of your sound. Has everything you want, nothing you don't want. Two independent channels. That's what I want and need. Other cheap amps give you 1 1/2 channels, which is frustrating. This is what I want, two independent channels. EL84, EL34, 6L6, 6V6 selectable per channel. I can put my favorite settings in memory. I can select British or American tone stacks per channel. I can select 6L6 tubes on Channel 1 for Fender Harmonic Clean and I can select EL34 tubes on channel 2 for Sizzling Crunch. I can have Reverb & Delay set just right for the clean channel and I can set Reverb & Delay just right for the Overdrive Channel. I can set the power scaling in the sweet spot at 0.5w for bedroom practice or 80w for stage playing a full band with drums. The amp is built solid. The Waza speaker is a super performer with rich harmonics, body, bloom and power. IR out for recording. FX loop. Everything can be controlled by the front panel in seconds. There is a great 6 button footswitch for instant changes. There is an editor app so if I want to go into great detail for settings on my computer with a big screen I can do that in my leisure time. This is a well thought out amp that I have been waiting for for years. I started using the Blues Cube Hot Class A/B amp years ago that sounds great. But it is a very limited one channel amp with minimal footswitch control. I have tube amps but the Boss Nextone Special can be 4 different amps in one song. It can be a clean Fender, a crunch Marshall, a singing Mesa Boogie, a jangly Vox. The Special performs like a superstar. The price is fantastic too. Update-able, good looking, functional, reliable. The best amp I have ever used. Been playing on stage and in my bedroom for 50 years. This is the kind of amp I would get two of. This is the future of amplification. Energy efficient operation, not a hog, like a tube amp. Class A/B power. Not Class D like cheap digital amps. I have a Fender Class A tube amp, the Hand Wired '57 Custom Champ. Champ output 5 watts, takes 30 watts from the wall. My Fender Tone Master Deluxe Class D emulates a 22 watt Class A/B tube amp but takes 100 watts from the wall. The Special is Class A/B 80 watts taking 85 watts from the wall. The Special has the most desirable output configuration for a power tube-like sound and feel. The problem with Class D is that it is sterile clean. A lot of trickery is involved to get it to respond like a Class A/B tube-like amp. The Hot and the Special are the desired type of amplification for tube-like sag, compression and pleasurable overdrive. It is more difficult to get pleasurable overdrive from the Tone Master. Fender had to have update mods to address this issue. The original firmware for the Tone Master had that rizzy transistor sound with the Bright Capacitor in the Bright Channel where the Reverb and Tremolo is when overdriven. The mod works great. Kudos to Fender for continuing to support their products and listen to players. The Special already has that mod built in. Kudos to Boss for their research & development and listening to players like Eric Johnson.

Boss engineers have expended significant effort to get the new Nextone Special Amp up to the next level. The Nextone Special allows you to select 6V6/6L6/EL84/EL34 Power Amp Tube Emulation independently on the 2 Channels - so you can have Fender 6L6 Style Cleans on Channel 1 and Marshall EL34 Crunch on Channel 2 and many other user configurations The new ’B12W’ Waza Craft ’Blue Bell’ speaker has been modelled after legendary Celestion/Vox speakers and are honed towards delivering that dynamic and sparkling, and punchy speaker response. The control panel is now front-facing, which is a huge plus, and features dual rows of controls, with added Boost Controls, Bottom and Top Custom Tune Controls and separate Clean and Lead Solo Controls. The Power-Scaling has more sophistication to it, so more control over how you deploy the amp. The rear panel has all the expected ports and sockets, including an FX-Loop. There has always been a Holy Grail kind of thing for a Guitar Amp tp achieve a Fender (6V6 or 6L6), Vox (EL84), and Marshall (EL34) tones. The Nextone Special is set up to do that, controllable by the user. The top-of-the-line Nextone Special amp has enhanced ergonomics, processing power and controllability. It can sound like a Marshall, Vox, Fender or Mesa Boogie. That's enough for me.

In the Boss Nextone Special, Tube Logic is taken to the utmost in flexibility. Punchy attack, natural compression. 80 watts, enough for any gig. Four switchable power levels; 0.5w, 20w, 40w, 60w, Max (80w), and silent standby for sending adjustable line level IR signal (XLR and 1/4 inch) to recording console, PA or another guitar amp. Use 6 button GA-FC foot controller, or standard BOSS footswitches, and MIDI, effects loop. A phones/recording output is available for silent practice and tracking sessions, along with USB for direct recording and communication with the Nextone Editor software. Four analog Class AB power amp circuits, selectable for each channel: 6V6, 6L6, EL84, and EL34. Independent Clean and Lead channels with selectable American and British EQs, built-in effects (Boost, Delay, Reverb). Extra Headroom switch for added punch when desired. Switchable Solo function with level control. Three Tone Setting memories for storing and recalling customized amp and effect settings. The sound is very convincing. It sounds like a really good tube amp, clean or dirty. Custom Waza B12W 12-inch speaker delivers classic "blue bell" tone with rich lows, mellow mids, and clear highs. With the variable power control, you can always ride in the “sweet spot,” whether performing in small venues or big stages. A go-to amp if there ever was one. Trouble-free, USB online updates, great price, Boss reliability, super functional, intuitive controls. I like it. I play it.

The Boss Nextone Special guitar amp should be available in a head format. An amp this versatile can be more versatile if you can choose which cabinets to use with it. Also this amp is AB style only, not Class A. The Roland Blues Cube Hot “British EL84 Modified” is a special edition version of the popular Blues Cube Hot amplifier. In contrast to the American tweed sound of the standard amp, the Blues Cube Hot “British EL84 Modified” is specially tuned to produce the voice of a traditional British (Vox) combo with EL84 tubes, also known as the “Class A” sound. Offered in a classic black look, the 30-watt Blues Cube Hot “British EL84 Modified” delivers legendary Brit combo tone in a compact, gig-ready combo. In the Boss Nextone Special, Tube Logic taken to the utmost flexible feature set. Authentic sound and feel with punchy attack, natural compression. 80 watts, enough for any gig. Four switchable power levels; 0.5w, 20w, 40w, 60w, Max (80w), and silent standby for sending line level signal to recording console or PA. Rear panel has IR cab outs, with Air Feel. Use GA-FC foot controller, or standard BOSS footswitches, and MIDI, effects loop, plus XLR and 1/4-inch line outputs for sending a direct feed to a PA. A phones/recording output is available for silent practice and tracking sessions, along with USB for direct recording and communication with the Nextone Editor software. Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
