When I first started playing, I bought the studio version of this guitar (one of the best value buys for a beginner/entry level guitar in its own right). I had my eyes on upgrading to IBG Masterbilt version for a while and let me tell you, like all the reviews here, it is a phenomenal guitar. All high quality materials and finishes and the sound and playability is top notch! It has a basic pickup in it, but everything else in this guitar is just stunning. I have one that was made in China and it is every bit as good quality the Indonesian made versions, so do not let that or name being Epiphone deter you. Play it for yourself and you'll be blown away at what you get for this price point, this easily competes with guitars 2-3 times its price point.

I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and have owned a plethora of many fine acoustic guitars. But this particular Epiphone IBG Hummingbird ranks at the top of the list. It has a very balanced sound, not too boomy or uneven. It's a bit on the quiet side but that may change once its opened up a bit. The short scale makes it easy to play, but the narrow nut might deter some folks. It is made in China but don't let that discourage you. It's built every bit as good as the Indonesian ones. Overall it is a fantastic instrument and thousands cheaper than the Gibson model. I have zero regrets over my purchase.

I've wanted a Hummingbird for many of my fifty years of playing and recently was in the position to get one. I tried the Gibson model and the Inspired by Gibson model from Epiphone and I honestly have to say I preferred the finish, feel and sound of the Epiphone, besides the fact that it's $4000.00 cheaper than the Gibson. Couldn't be happier.

This guitar sounds as good as my much more expensive Gibson SJ 200. A guitar this good should come with a case though.

Cette guitare est tout simplement fantastique, ce n'est pas la Gibson et la différence paraît, mais paraît peu. Par contre, pour le rapport qualité/prix elle éclipse complètement l'originale.

Lots of comparisons between this and the Gibson version online. Do some research on them.
You really need to get both in your hands. Yeah, the edge might go to Gibson on the overall fit and finish, etc but not 3 grand worth of edge. Not even close. I would rather buy this and a bunch of other awesome guitars or gear with the savings.
This guitar is spectacular. I love the sound, the playability, and the tuning stability. I have ZERO regrets with this guitar. I love it.
Before anyone casts judgment on this guitar, play it.

After returning a much loved Gibson Hummingbird because of financial issues I tried this one out with little expectation. Like the on line Gibson - Epiphone comparisons I found very little difference in tone playing in the store. I love the improvements to the color scheme on the pick guard, and found there was no quality lacking anywhere. - Happy surprise - even the tuners are excellent. Epiphone managed to capture the unique tonality of the Gibson Hummingbird - the most important issue for me. No guitar in the world sounds as sweet as a Hummingbird. For a $4200 saving over a Gibson this is a great deal.

First off, this is a brilliant guitar. It sounds great, looks great, feels great. I love playing it and being nearly 75% cheaper than the Gibson version but hitting probably 95% of that Gibson sound (based on my ear with someone else playing both versions back to back) I can handle a couple of quality control issues. Everything feels great on the guitar however there are a couple of bumps in the finish on the back and the right shoulder. Almost like a grain of dirt got stuck to the finsih. You can't see it but at times you feel it. I would suggest going over any possible purchase very closely. L&M did adjust the price down when I pointed them out and that was fine by me. I have ZERO regrets with this guitar. Best acoustic I have ever owned. Looking forward to years of playing on this.

Purchased mid April 2021 from Markham location through Spencer (awesome as always !). Outstanding guitar all around for the price. Solid as a rock. Has nice warm sound and outstanding bass response. Pick up works great and even output across all strings. Excellent neck, frets and playability. All solid woods so heavy. Tuners are outstanding. Guitar from top to bottom is all class. Pick guard has one area where peel may become an issue, however when I registered with Epiphone, they will send another one as long as I own it if an issue. I put a set of Elixir PB lights on it, a slight adjust on the truss and plays like butter. Extremely smooth and fast fretboard, nice beefy neck and perfectly level and filed fret ends. Very hard to put this guitar down when picked up. Intonation is bang on and no rattles anywhere. Finish is flawless, no binding runs anywhere and QC top notch. I have two other higher end acoustics Yamaha FGX3 Red Label and a Yamaha LL16 and this hummingbird definitely is in their class. Would like a 1 3/4 nut on them, however minor issue. A beautiful well made guitar and would highly recommend it as a solid buy.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
