Ever since the 1970's the iconic white woofer and signature sound of Yamaha's nearfield reference monitors have become a genuine industry standard for a reason - their accuracy. Unlike studio monitors with added bass or treble frequencies which may sound more flattering at first, HS Series speakers were designed to give you the most honest, precise reference possible, providing an ideal sonic platform to build on throughout the mixing process. By combining acquired knowledge and expertise with state-of-the-art sound technologies, Yamaha's speaker engineering team have examined, then optimized, every aspect that has contributed to making these monitors the most trusted in the business. The second generation HS Series also adds a new 6.5" model to the lineup, bringing its exceptional accuracy to an even greater variety of recording environments

These are crystal clear sounding monitors, I was finally able to hear all the mid to high frequency information after years of using inadequate speakers. I would highly recommend pairing this with the HS8S subwoofer for the full sonic spectrum. I recently did this and I'm finding my mixes translate much better. Keep in mind these monitors on their own have very little low end monitoring.

Hooked up a pair of these babies to my Line 6 Helix via XLR cables. The sound is fantastic in this 12ft x 10ft room.
Broad, stereo sound that brings out the true tones of this pedalboard. Great construction, no bass boom, and the ability to get mighty loud. (All in a small footprint)

The studio monitor market is loaded with awesome products and I think these are a great choice in this price range and size of monitor for what they are designed to do. I needed a smaller near field monitor for my desktop to A/B with a larger set to check the mid-range of my mixes, voice overs and mic placement. Like any monitor I believe it's most important to just spend lots of time with them and get to know how they sound with your music, but to my ears these are a prefect fit for what I needed!

If you want to listen to your final production..best to match with yamaha sub woofer. These speakers lack bottom range. Best to compare because now your looking at $1000

Great monitor for the price. I owned the Rokit KRK5's but quickly swapped them out for these after I noticed my tracks always lacked low-end - the KRK's are bass boosted. These provide a much more realistic sound making it better for final mixdowns.

You get what you pay for when it comes to monitors but these Yamaha's sound a little better then what they're priced at. I bought these to replace my NS10's because my amp was giving me problems and I wanted a more clean, compact setup. Definitely don't sound like the NS10's but still a nice second reference monitor next to my Adam A77X's

Very good NS-10 replacements. Just like the NS-10s they are unflattering and unforgiving. If you can get your mix to sound amazing on these, your mix will be amazing when played on other systems.

Best monitors ever !!! They look small at 1st glance then you go to pick them up , they are quite heavy for their size, each monitor is independently powered. trust me they pack a punch, a must have in any studio. with the room control feature its very nice especially if you have less than 4 feet of distance between ur speakers n the wall. with a simple flick of the switch u can removed tht overpowering fuzz effect created from wall proximity and keep working without having to knock your wallsdown haha. I give the hs5 a 10 out of 10

Just picked the hs5's up a week ago after quite a few months of research. I have to say, amazing monitors for the money! Not because they sound like a million bucks, although they don't sound bad at all. But because they are the truest representation of my mixes I've heard so far! I can pick out every instrument in the stereo field in perfect clarity. Theses monitors are just what I needed, honesty. My opinion? Don't spend a cent on hyped "nice" sounding monitors. Your mixes will suffer. Get your songs sounding tight on these guys and they'll sound great on everything!

I'g assuming these are the new HS line. I owned a pair of KRKs Rokit 6s before these, and i like the crystal clear highs and solid mids compared to the muddy boom of the KRKs. They leave something to be desired in the low end, so I will have to grab a SW10W. Overall .. I'm very impressed!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
