A big step up from any other kind of tuner. Keep in mind that this is modeled after a strobe tuner, so it does not work like most other tuners people are used to. Instead of using LEDs or a VU-style analog meter, it simulates a spinning disc that we find in mechanical strobe tuners. You can use built-in "sweeteners" which are in fact configuration settings that are optimized for given instruments, with typical target notes, including a basic chromatic EQU for tuning anything. You can also use PatersonConnect to communicate with your tuner and add your own custom tunings or instruments pre-set values, and update the firmware. You can use it right out of the box, and can spend time to customize your pre-sets and tunings if you want to get fancy. Works with the built-in microphone, or plugged-in instruments, and you can also buy an add-on clip that plugs into the tuner. A great device to own.

best thing ever invented, think your guitar was in tune using cheaper tuners ?? guess again, it was way off. I bought it cause I needed a solid reference for setting intonation of a Les Paul. No more flashing idiot lights of the cheap tuners .. Strobe display tuning is where it's at.

i originally gave this product a sketchy review. after leaving Peterson an email they responded back within only a few minutes. what made me angry was that i didn't find out about the needed "upgrade" until i got the product home and tested it. Peterson corrected the issue immediately and i am now a happy camper. metronome works great... tuner works great and i now have a new appreciation for their prompt and efficient customer service department. Good on yah Peterson.

the tuner is accurate. for $180 i would expect nothing less. your typical cheap plastic housing. no better or worse than anyone other product. the face is very readable in any situation which is a plus for older guys. easy to use which is also a plus. unfortunately the company has decided to play the "firm ware" game. that means your expected to cough up an additional $40 for the fully functional version. being that this is a completely software driven unit there is no reason for this other than fleecing more money off of the consumer. a ruthless practice to be sure. it is for that reason that i would not recommend this tuner. it's time the consumer fought back against these ruthless business practices by way of refusing to use the products. what should have been a pleasant experience was immediately ruined because of it. nothing but bad things to say about Peterson's conduct. they get a half rating because they delivered half a product...

I Bought this Tuner for setting up Guitars on the bench initially. It worked great out of the box, very easy to use and the most important part to me was how accurate and repeatable it is. If you don't know or understand Strobe technology read up on it. These Tuners work in "Real Time", no sampling, averaging, normalizing etc.. Once I tuned up my first Guitar with it I was hooked. This thing is great. I have been playing for years and when I started out, it was only Tuning Forks, and your ears. There were Strobe Tuners out there then but they were very expensive. If you set up your own Guitars, or do it for a living these Peterson Strobe Tuners are the only thing I would consider using. When I set up my first Guitar with it I was just amazed at how accurate and fast it was. With my other Digital Tuner it was a bit of a guessing game in regard to repeatability. I have a Pedal Board and had my other digital Tuner in it and initially I thought I would continue to use it. I couldn't, when you tune up with the Peterson Strobe Tuner the other Tuners just don't measure up. So, I bought the Peterson Stomp Classic Strobe Tuner for my Pedal Board. This was the best decision that I made. I use the StroboPLUS HD for recording also, this is the only Tuner I will consider and everyone uses it to tune to. It also has tempered or sweetened tunnings as they call it, that you can use or create your own. If you are not comfortable with using these they have the setting "equal Temperament", which is the same as most digital Tuners, just way more accurate. This Tuner is very easy to use out of the box.

I primarily bought this for use with a pedal steel guitar as the product comes with a number of preset tunings, including the E9 common to pedal steel. The unique thing about that tuning is that it is not note accurate in that certain strings are to be tuned slightly "off" from the true note. Peterson has programmed a number of these "sweetened" tunings right into this unit. I use this unit for both electric and acoustic guitar, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and bass guitar. The accuracy of the tuner is incredible. Logging into the Peterson website, one can customize the unit in the way one wants. I deleted a number of the tunings I would never use (like, cello, sitar, harp, lute and bagpipes) and downloaded others that were not included with the unit (sweetened accoustic guitar). You can also create your own tunings and share them at the Peterson website. Anyone that does setup on instruments would benefit from the accuracy of this unit. Visit the Peterson website for details as this unit does way more than I could ever describe here. Comes with a small metal stand to hold it upright, but also has a tripod style mounting hole in the back if you want to buy a bracket to attach this to your mic stand or leg of a pedal steel. Yes, it is pricey, but in tuners, like anything else, you get what you pay for.

This tunes way more accurate than anything in my box of cheap tuners and this is why I bought it. It feels more solid than it looks. Now for the nonsense part of this - first you'll have to install chrome browser to hook up the tuner to their web ap. No other browser will work. Disgusting. Then they will want you to pay 40$ for a software upgrade to use the metronome hardware already built in. I don't know who advised them to sell it like this but they are a fool. I like the part where they offer a $10 discount on the software for 20 minutes after you register your unit, but if you leave that page (to say... install google chrome) you will never find that deal again. Awesome tuner, terrible website and marketing scheme.

I think Peterson strobe tuners have improved my ear. I started with their clip, and liked it so much I bought the Stroboplus HD. This tuner is great! I’m not a fan of the rechargeable battery, but the battery is replaceable if and when it dies completely. The metronome function should also be included at this price point, but I did buy it for the tuner, not the metronome.
