Hohner Special 20 (D Major)
9 models to choose from:
Awesome response, superior bendability and the sweetest tone ever. This harp is the first choice for those learning to play. Its special airtight design makes it the most recommended go-to harp for harmonica players of any style, including blues, country, folk or rock. The plastic comb doesn't absorb moisture making it longer lasting. Harp of choice of harmonica virtuoso John Popper (of Blues Traveler) and played by Bob Dylan on his 2007/08 tour. Chances are your favourite player has several of these harps in his case.

I agree with William. These Special 20 Progressives, the newer model of the Special 20, are not very good. The originals were fantastic. These new ones are unpleasant to play.

The original Special 20's were great harps... easy to play, and the best plastic combed harp I have used. HOWEVER, Hohner changed them about 5 years ago. They are now called Special 20 "Progressive". That name only appears on the actual harp and not on the box. These new harps are horrible in my opinion... very airy and very stiff to bend notes. I am holding on to my original 20's for dear life.

This was my father's day gift from my family. I got a open C harp and love it! I never played before this (although I always wanted one) and I must say that I really enjoy the sound. It cuts trough really well when accompanied with a guitar, or just by itself. Really easy to play,

I have tried the Special 20, Marine Band and Marine Band Deluxe. While the Marine Bands have a warmer sound to them, the Special 20 has the best feel and is easiest to play. If you are just starting out, I'd highly recommend starting with a Special 20. I've had mine for 2 years now and it still sounds fantastic. Can't say enough about this harmonica! Love it

I started with a cheap BluesBand, and realized quickly that I wanted to really learn harmonica. Bought a Special 20 and wow, what a difference. So much easier to play. The Hohner "Just Breathe" slogan makes a lot more sense with a quality harp. For less than $40 you get a world-class instrument... if I'd known better, I would have started with the Special 20.

The Special 20 is easy to play, bend notes and get high volume. Use a bit of restraint as you can get carried away and blow a reed. The bummer is, reed sets are barely available and almost as expensive as a new harp.
