I don't know much about synths, I'm a geetar guy but this little gizmo rules! Perfect for wacked out noisy stuff but can also do smoother chiller stuff. Plastic enclosure is pretty dec, doesn't feel really cheap or anything. Only output is the headphones out, but works fine, plug this bad boy into a full range speaker, crank it up and BOOM! A ton of low end! I'd recommend this for synth beginners like me, but I'm sure the more seasoned synth veteran would get a lot of use out of this as well.

a Tiny stripped down MS-10 like device in your pocket, with an extra oscillator! It's an interesting device, a nice little thing to get beepy gameboy sounds out of, the filter (VCF) can be patched into via the AUX Plug, thus enabling the device to act as a filter for larger synths, or perhaps to play along with your phone, or perhaps use the unit as a tiny speaker. The Red button on top locks the ribbon to two scales and then free sweep, so you can take the blunt end of a pen or a video game stylus and make cool "weew weew" noises while you turn other knobs. The insides are clearly marked to their functions so should you be handy with the soldering iron, and essentially build yourself a full sized dual VCO analog synth from garage scraps. buy one, even if you just use it as a noise making toy you won't be disappointed. The Build Quality is of the same familiar KORG contemporary plastic. if you have a MA-1 Metronome or a Tuner, you'll know this "fuzzy plastic", responsive controls" type feel immediately.

The thing I was immediately drawn to was the price. An analog synth for pretty cheap? Will it sound like its price point or will it actually be useful? Luckily, this thing sounds great and has its uses. It may be a bit hard to play with your fingers as the keys are so small, but a tablet pen works well. You are able to make tasteful melodies and harmonies or crank up the x-mod for some really nasty sounding effects. There is a headphone and aux jack which means you can run it through effects (like the Monotron Delay), or use the Monotron Duo with something else. For example, you can run music through it and use the Duo's cutoff filter. Construction wise I can't really complain. It does feel toy-like in that it's all plastic, but it doesn't feel like you can break it easily which is good. The output level is a little low if you do decide to hook it up to the mixer, but the external speaker is fine. It runs on AAA batteries, and it lasts forever. Mine is still running after a year through occasional use. Overall, if you want a fun and solid device to thing of melodies on the go, something to add flavour for your music, or just want something to play around with, the Monotron Duo is a steal. I will admit that it isn't super practical for the music I make, but for some this is likely going to be incredible.
