Vandoren Traditional Alto Saxophone Reeds (10/Box) - 2
8 models to choose from:
This reed is designed to produce a quality of extremely pure sound due to a very thin reed tip (the area of reed with maximum vibration), being balanced by a solid vertebral column (more cane in the area which climbs gradually to the heel). These reeds are recognizable by a straight line to delineate the limit of the area of bark. The favorite reed of classic saxophonists worldwide since Marcel Mule, it has always been (and is still) used with equal success by many players.

I'm now comparing a Rico 2 with a Van Doren 2 1/2 (which is no test at all - not valid), but still.
I notice that the sound goes from "quacky" to "professional woody" when I slide on the 2 1/2 Van Doren. It brings out more of the horn itself - especially with the Selmer saxophones.
I'm using a TS400 (since I'm a rank beginner) but it sounds just amazing.
You won't go wrong with these reeds. (The reed was even better when I shaved it down a little, and sanded the back where it meets the table).
