Bought this a few wks ago. While I have several other beautiful options to choose from that are hanging on my wall, including a full-sized Taylor, I keep reaching for this little gem. Quite simply, it's pure pleasure to play. I tried all the versions of the GS-Mini but once I picked up the KOA+, I was hooked.

I have been on the lookout for an upgrade/alternative acoustic for some time because I have a family heirloom Stella Harmony and needed something to take out that both feels and sounds great.
I learned to play on a parlour so I prefer its comfort and tone over full sized alternatives.
This Taylor is fantastic! It is obviously well crafted and has tremendous tone for such a small body… it bellows. The feel on the neck and fret action is perfect for me and the tuners are very high quality so you can push your playing and it will stay in tune.
Mine came with a very high quality case so I can take it out and not worry as much.
It is a pricier guitar but you can hear/feel/see the value of it; it is a great professional upgrade or a great portable guitar that does not compromise playability.

Over time i believe I have tried all the GS Mini models. I tried the Blackwood limited issue and another model listed at $ 1099, and this all KOA Plus to compare sound when I purchased this a few days ago. I have owned all solid triple o's and concert sizes with bracing on the back. These produce less projection and less volume than the GS series, but do not create the hollow booming sound of the GS which I am having trouble getting accustomed to. This problem exists in all guitars lacking back bracing to some degree in my opinion, but seems VERY noticeable in the GS, but I hope to get used to it. Yes its overpriced but for us Canadians its partly due to our weak $. Its an easy playing guitar which is true of most Taylor models of which I have owned 3 mid priced versions of (with back bracing, which I much prefer. The Aero case would cost $ 200 I'm sure if bought separately, so that is a plus. Only time will tell I guess.

I have had my 'GS Koa' since "That Virus" began a week later! I went to the Cambridge store on a Sunday in April 2020, a week before "The Virus" came, very luckily, cause at My age, I was Very Worried and mostly stayed home for the year plus. I Wanted a Smaller, (to me) old fashioned smaller guitar (like 'O, OO, OOO') and That shape is Perfect for mostly playing in a Big Recliner Chair! It is a great Small guitar. I Do Not want it to be Loud, not 'HERE'! Nothing against 'Taylor' at all, but I have found that the smaller fingerboard means 'less space' for My larger than Avg. fingers. The Answer tho, was 'Learning to Properly position my hand and fingers and Thumb, so "My Koa" really Forced me to improve My technique! So, it's the Perfect Size, for us Old Tymers, who don't/can't Sit in 'Perfect' guitar posture, yeah? It looks SO much like like the (now) Big name guitars that the Masters of Blues played in the 1930s - 1940s! (like R. Johnston)

I've always been a GS Mini fan so I am really enjoying this high end model. The tone and projection acoustically are excellent. As always, the action is fine right out of the box. I like the dark finish and the upgraded electronics are a plus. The new Aero case is very similar to a hardshell and should stand up to years of use. I must admit that this guitar is likely over-priced but I can imagine it will sell well notwithstanding. Well done Taylor!

This is one of my best Acoustic guitars collections. Don't let it's size fool you, it can stand up pretty well with a dreadnought. It's also a stunning beauty and I am so proud to own it.

I believe I received the first in Nova Scotia and I am impressed. Koa has a wonder tone, hard to put my finger on exactly what it is. Smooth well balanced with wonderful low high and mids. For the size it really is amazing. It’s louder that my Martin GPC-2XE without question. Easily to play. The Aerocase... wow! That’s a freaking travel case. I have never seen a case that wasn’t “hard” with such protection and support. It’s truly amazing. I think that the price is a bit high. You have get some great guitars for this price. But for Koa and a Taylor, it’s great.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
