I have under-saddle piezo pickup in all my acoustics and while that suffices in a lot of cases, if you're recording, playing solo or in thinner musical environments, the brittle sound gets annoying quickly. This pickup just solves almost all problems for me---the humbucker alone produces a lovely warm tone which is far superior to the piezo in feedback-prone environments. The internal condenser mic within the body reproduces the character of the instrument and you can play with it's position giving you even more control over the quality of the tone (I tend to like pointing it toward the fretboard, offset a bit toward the bass strings, but totally worth playing around with the mic position to get something you're digging peronally). An onboard dial allows you to mix the signal from the humbucker and mic as suits you, and it has a TRS jack so you can split the output and have the humbucker on one mono output, while the mic goes over the other. This makes it easy to do things such as send the mic directly to the PA while running the magnetic pickup through an effects chain. The soundhole design is simple enough and I can drop it in or remove it in a couple of minutes making it nice to move between instruments if you don't want to pony up for multiple pickups for permanent installation. The only minor downside is that the preamp takes a couple of watch batteries which while easy enough to change means you have yet another set of battery needs. A quality product, with stellar sound and well worth the money.

I love this thing. I needed a pick up for my Taylor that includes a mic for percussive playing and this thing is the perfect solution.

I'm the most fierce critic of live acoustic guitar sound. I can't believe how bad most acoustic guitars sound in a live setting...even with wealthy touring professionals. For myself I bought a Bose L1 model 2 with a B2 sub and tone match to try and get better sound. I've tried LR bags lyric. M1 and M80, K and K to name a few. Even with this PA my guitar didn't sound great. I have a Blueridge BR 163A which is the best kept secret in the acoustic guitar world by the way. The fishman rare earth blend is the best of the lot. Save up your money and get it...if you have a high quality acoustic worthy of amplification. You won' regret it.
