The Les Paul Custom made its debut in 1954 after the initial success of the Les Paul Goldtop. Mr. Les Paul himself wanted to convey to audiences that the solid body electric guitar was not a fad but a superb and challenging instrument and that his signature axe, the Les Paul, was the king of all electric solid body guitars. So, Les requested a Les Paul with a custom color finish in solid black and solid white with gold hardware that would blend well with a tuxedo.

The result was the Les Paul Custom, or the tuxedo Les Paul, as it became known among fans. The Les Paul Custom quickly became one of the most recognized guitars in the world and Les himself used his Les Paul Custom in concert, on his weekly television show with wife Mary Ford and on his album covers, including his famous duet with pal Chet Atkins, Chester and Lester.

Now with Epiphones superior ProBucker humbucker pickups with coil-tapping along with the Customs classic gold hardware, fully bound body, neck and headstock, and pearloid inlays, we think youll agree that the Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO is dressed to kill.

Body

While all Les Pauls share common design features, the Les Paul Custom distinguished itself from the Les Paul Standard and Les Paul Goldtop with a solid mahogany body. The Les Paul Custom PRO carries on that tradition but with the added twist of a maple veneer top, which adds a subtle bite to the Les Paul Customs legendary tone. Just like Les personal Custom, the Les Paul Custom PRO has a solid mahogany neck with a 24.75 scale thats hand-fitted with a glued-in joint for optimum neck-to-body contact, which allows the Les Paul Custom PRO to resonate as one solid piece of wood. The rosewood fingerboard features pearloid block inlays and has a 12 radius, a 1.68 nut and 22 medium-jumbo frets.

The mahogany neck has a very comfortable and super fast SlimTaper D profile, the most popular profile found on todays Les Pauls. The Custom PRO also features beautiful 5-ply (white/black) binding around the maple veneer top and the back along with single-ply cream binding around the body. The classic rosewood fingerboard is bound in white and the clipped dovewing headstock features 5-ply (white/black) binding along with a 50s era/Custom-style split diamond pearloid inlay and, of course, a vintage Epiphone logo in pearloid. The Kalamazoo-era bell-shaped truss rod cover features Les Paul Custom PRO in white silkscreen in tribute to Les timeless design. The Les Paul Custom PRO comes in Alpine White and Ebony.

Electronics

The Les Paul Custom PRO now features Epiphones ProBucker pickups, a 4-wire design with coil-tapping inspired by Gibsons legendary BurstBuckers. ProBucker pickups recreate the sound of the original hand-wound PAF humbuckers made by Seth Lover at the Kalamazoo factory in the late 50s. Epiphone ProBuckers feature all the same ingredients as original PAF and BurstBucker pickups, including Alnico II magnets,Elektrisola magnet wire, 18% nickel silver unit bases and covers, and pole screws, slugs and bobbins manufactured to Gibsons original specifications. The result is a phenomenal pickup that, over time, will develop the subtle, one-of-a-kind characteristics that you can only get from vintage humbuckers. And best of all, those unique pickup characteristics will give your guitar a unique voice. No two vintage Les Pauls sound alike and ProBuckers give your Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO a one-of-a-kind sound that will get better the more you play. So plan on playing your Les Paul Custom PRO a lot!

The Les Paul Custom PRO includes a ProBucker-2 humbucker in the neck position that is slightly overwound for greater definition at higher volumes. The bridge pickup is a ProBucker-3 humbucker, which is also slightly overwound to give your solos a wide tonalrange. Each pickup features coil-tapping via a push/pull control at each pickups volume knob, which really gives the Les Paul Custom Pro the ability to be any guitar you can imagine. All volume and tone controls feature full-size 500K Ω potentiometers matched with Epiphones rugged, all-metal, 3-way toggle pickup selector switch for long-lasting performance.

Hardware

Epiphones reputation for great guitars extends to its unbeatable hardware and the Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO delivers with a standard-setting gold LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and a gold Stopbar tailpiece for superb tuningstability. Both the Alpine White and Ebony models feature gold hardware, including gold Grover machine heads with a 14:1 ratio.

I recently bought this guitar at the beginning of March, and I'm loving it! I've recently picked up guitar again, and wanted an upgrade from my Yamaha Stratocaster, and I'm glad I went this route. I've always been a fan of Les Paul's, but didn't want to spend all the money for a Gibson. Upon research this Epiphone is very equivalent to a Gibson for a fraction of the price! I went into the St. John's location, and picked this guitar up and tried it out, and as soon as I had it in my hands it just felt right! It is a heavier guitar, but to me, it's a very comfortable weight, and it looks amazing as well! If I could change anything with it, it would be to have different colour hardware options other than gold (this is the only reason that I gave 4.5 stars in overall). Don't get me wrong, the gold looks great, but my personal taste would rather a chrome look over the gold. Highly recommend this guitar!

I have never owned a Les Paul in my 35+ years of playing until now. I played on a friends Epi many many years ago and loved the feel of it. This guitar is perfect in every way ... I absolutely love it and to top things off I lucked out and got one with an ebony fingerboard which is what I had played years ago. Next is the '55 lol

I see no reason to own a Gibson when you can get a guitar this amazing for a much lower price. The pickups sound great, and the versatility of the coil taps and phase selection allows this guitar to play any style of music. The visuals are amazing, very reminiscent of Jimmy Paige, and makes it fun to pick up this guitar whenever I look at it. While it has gone up in price since I got my model, it is still great value and a sweet guitar.

I bought this from L&M Orleans and haven't regretted it for a second. It's a 2016 model with coil splitting, phase shifting, creamy inlays and looks and sounds fantastic. The Gibson equivalent is $5500 and doesn't have the tonal choices that this model has for less than $1000. Build quality is top notch, fret ends are very smooth and after a quick setup for action (which is normal after hanging on a wall for a while) It is very comfortable to play, although it has that Les Paul weight. A wide strap helps. This one is a keeper.

Id like to hear from anyone that thinks they can get a better freaking guitar for the money. This is a Monster. Long gone are the days of cheap epiphone guitars. This beauty is an all around gem. The pickups sound amazing, they are based on Gibsons burstbuckers. This Monster is also coil-tapped to add great soundlandscapes. The neck really shines on this model, its perfect in my hands, i have smaller hands but i have no issues playing this monster. Ive always wanted a Les paul, and this beast deserves the name. Its very way a les paul, ive owned a few and im not kidding u when i saw this monster stands up ever bit, as a matter of fact it plays nicer then my Gibson standard. If u want a les paul and u dont want to dish out 2gs, this IS the guitar for you. If u were inclined to swap out the pickups that only would make it roar, as for me its perfectly monstrous as is!

This guitar is fantastic. I own a 1985 model (Fun Fact it is a model made when epiphone moved to Korea) and it just rocks. I have a fender 115 deluxe amp that I play it through and God does it sound great. The reason I didn't put all of the stars full (isn't that a funny phrasing that sounds sort of strange) is because the model that I own is older and has more issues with it. Only minor issues mind you. Small things like the strap button falls out on mine a lot and there is a slight buzz on the second fret but that is only on my model and if you buy it new I guarantee that you won't get the same problems that I have on mine. I love my guitar!

for the price this is an ok guitar, i bought a used 2009 model (made in china) just recently and its really good, the stock epi pick ups are the same they put in every guitar so they're ok at best and the pots and switch wear out fast so i highly recomend upgrading them to something thats actually good (Gibson, Dimarzio, Seymour Duncan, EMG, that sort of thing). The build quality is pretty good, mines mint, everything is solid, no issues. if you can get a used one cheap, do it and upgrade your electronics, its well worth it

I bought this guitar a few months ago and have been very impressed after I had it set up to my picky specs (fret dress and re crown). The tone I get out of this guitar is incredible. It's now on par with a guitar worth much more than its sticker price.

I've own Gibson Les Paul's (Studio,Standard and a Custom. This is a great little guitar for the money. Plays great and sounds really nice (killer tone). Love the out of phase push pull switch. Set some time aside and sit and play a few. If you do this you will find an Epiphone that will impress you. You don't have to break the bank. Nice work Epiphone.

$700 now for the Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I have owned lots of Gibson Les Paul but found myself without one. Decided I would give the Epiphone a try. After all it was $599 when I tried it. Went to L@M tried it and really wasn't impressed. Long story short found a Gibson Les Paul Studio on the wall ( NOS 2012 gloss Studio $1100 ) Little more money but way better, and it comes with a hardshell case. The Epiphone is ok, but a lot of times they need a setup from new.

I bought the custom pro and as soon as I had it in my hands it felt like the best guitar I have ever owned. Like one other review said the gold finish is a little suspect and I find it a little heavy. There are a few small flaws on the guitar itself but nothing to get upset about. Compared to the price of a Gibson this is a great guitar for the money and its all I will ever need. Its hard to find a quality left handed guitar that wont break the bank but I found one.

i bought a korean version of this, added a pair of seymour duncan jazz and jb pickups and its pure magic, very close to the original. i was lucky enough to own a 1969 black gibson les paul custom and paid $600(in 1987)and it played beautifully . the neck to headstock joint is very weak and the headstock broke twice on me. $250 to repair each time, the epiphone has corrected gibson's issues with the headstock angle and no scarf joint so they are actually stronger than the gibson,go figure!!

Bought this about 5-months ago, and have patted myself on the back many times for making this purchase. Here's why: 1) The build quality is first-rate, with only the gold finish on some of the hardware being a bit suspect. The bridge components appear to be cast metal (not machined) so haven't got the same precise edges. The guitar is solid, and the overall finish is deep and luxurious, with the neck inlays and trim giving it the classic "Tuxedo" look. 2) The playability is wonderful, with the solid build giving it great sustain and tone. The setup was easy to tweak, and the intonation and string height were almost perfect out of the box. The Grover heads hold tune very well. 3) The new EP Pro-Bucker pickups are magnificent, using the same internal components as the Gibson Burstbuckers. They don't have the "muddiness" that earlier EP Humbuckers had, and the sharp detail between Humbucking and Single-Coil modes (using the coil splitting) is amazingly clear. It can be configured on various combinations to find the tonal quality of just about everything out there. For someone wanting a Gibson Les Paul but not able/willing to spend the coin, this one isn't far off the mark ... excellent value!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
