I generally use Elixir Nanoweb or, even better, the Dean Markley Helix (the latter has very little distribution in Western Canada now).
When I first tried these I played them acoustically and nothing stood out, particularly, in terms of "zing". And anyone who says they feel "soft and silky" on the fingers needs their head examined. These are like sandpaper- no kidding.
After hooking into my amp, though, I noticed they have a full spectrum increase in output, which is what I like from coated strings. I find Elixir doesn't give me that on my bottom end as much as the top end. These ones give me both. The sandpaper effect doesn't really bother me that much, but it won't be for everyone.
They seem to last well too- which is the expectation, of course- and so that's good. What I mean is, the output level doesn't prematurely diminish. I will continue using these strings because I'm starting to like them a bit more than what I've used before.

I'm not one for gimmicks especially "quick fixes" for tone or devices that make you sound like your guitar hero. And just like a majority of other strings on the market I thought these were another gimmick with an inflated price to empty our pockets just a little more. I had a set given to me by the guys at L&M to try out. And these cobalt strings are anything but a gimmick. They have far more bite, clarity, output and punch then any other strings I've ever used. I've even compared recordings I made of guitar tracks consisting of with and without these strings. And you can actually tell which tracks have the cobalt strings being played. I primarily play metal and If you play metal and are looking for more bite in your sound to cut through the mix these are the strings for you there's nothing else like them on the market. The cleans are unbelievably clear and concise. Works and responds very well with actives. Any type of metal, punk, rock and even some country these strings will impress you. However if you are looking for a warmer tone with maybe a little more twang these are not the strings for you unless you are playing with certain passive pickups primarily Seymour Duncan's. They do have a higher output and can sound noisy depending on your action, pickups and pickup height.
