Widely regarded as the most recognizable electric guitar ever, Eddie Van Halen's iconic and revered Frankenstein™ guitar (also known as Frankenstrat) now comes your way with a price tag the everyday musician can afford in the form of the EVH Striped Series Frankie.

Sporting Eddie's famed red with white-and-black-striped paint job and a worn-in reliced look, the all-new Frankie features a basswood Stratocaster-style body paired to a graphite-reinforced quartersawn maple neck. An oiled finish on the back of the neck allows for hours of playing comfort, while the 12"-16" compound radius maple fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets was designed for fast and furious playing styles.

Routed for an HSS pickup configuration just like Eddie's original, Frankie features an EVH Wolfgang humbucking bridge pickup with a dummy Strat neck pickup and a dummy five-way blade housed in the middle position.

A sturdy and dependable EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking trem and Floyd Rose locking nut work in tandem for precise tuning even with extreme changes in pitch, while the EVH D-Tuna retunes to drop-D and back with strict accuracy at the flick of a finger.

Other unique features include a white skirted Strat-style single volume control knob (labeled "tone"), custom black pickguard, reliced chrome hardware, standard strap buttons and EVH neck plate.

One year in and no regrets. Incredible guitar and extremely playable in every respect. The unfinished neck feels incredibly comfortable. The tone is legit; the humbucker pickup has been dialled. I bought this to own forever because I grew up on VH so I regard it as an essential piece of rock history and I’m still really impressed with the build quality and attention to detail. Had my pal in NYC mail me a 1971 quarter and carefully installed it just above the Floyd Rose. The only knock - the only one as other reviews have also commented on, is the lack of a case. I just don’t get it; anyone willing to pay $2700 for a guitar will surely pay $2900 if it includes a case. And they could make the case so cool with cigarette burns or whatever! Huge missed opportunity. What I did to resolve is simply buy a new tweed case for my Fender Strat AmPro II that came with a great moulded black case; Strat goes in the new tweed and Eddie goes in the fender case - on which I quickly slapped some 5150 & EvH stickers. Looks cool. Anyway…irritating about the case but not so much to prevent what will be a lifelong investment and playing enjoyment. Shout out to Andrew at the Ottawa HC store for making it happen.

Finally purchased one of these guitars after looking at it online for months. I was not disappointed. This guitar is spectacular in so many ways: build quality, finish (the relic-ing rivals that of the custom shop in spots), the pickup, the D-Tuna .... Required no setup at all. Only drawback ... no case or gig bag. Other guitars on the same level at least come with something .... the box just doesn't cut it. Oh well ... Ended up buying a Fender Molded Case, (not the EVH striped series case, the guitar slides around too much in that one). Overall, this guitar is one of the best out of Mexico. Its worth the hype.

First guitar I have ever bought that played amazing right out of the box! No setup needed just tuned it and boom instant fun playing the classic VH tunes. I bought a Mexican Wolf a couple years ago and it was a disaster needing over $200 bucks to make it fun to play. Buy this if you are a fan it's so fun to play, you won't be able to put it down.

I bought my Frankie in August from the Sudbury location, I haven’t put it down since. There’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said. Believe all the good you hear and read about this guitar. If I had to pass on advice, I’d say stick with the stock EVH Floyd Rose. I see videos of people swapping out the EVH for an original Floyd, there’s no need. I play this guitar hard, and it stays in perfect tune, and haven’t broke a string yet. A very well built stable guitar, right out of the box. Search my name on youtube, there’s a few clips of me playing my Frankie.

I had a Peavey Wolfgang before years ago, tried an Ernie Ball Axis in early 90s before that which is Ed's first signature guitar and also a Fender EVH Wolfgang. All good versatile guitars with minor differences in feel. Then I tried one of the basic striped ones in white. Felt kinda cheap with the hardware and neck frets. Very limiting with the one pickup and knob. Then with Ed gone one year now I thought I would try the beat up one. Still limiting with one pickup as the single coil one is a dummy. What ever extra they did to this guitar in its feel is where the extra $1000 is worth it. It compares quite well to the actual Fender Custom Shop model they put out around 2007 that for $14,000 was a work of art but no where near worth it. If you want an affordable EVH beat up guitar that pays homage to the great Ed in the truest sense this is it. I got it to remember Ed as he's the guy that got me playing 40 years ago. I gave it a 5 overall just based on that however lack of features reflects its lack tonal variety compared to multiple pickups and tone controls. Its still the best guitar to remember Ed by so do get it if you can find it.

Out of the box all it needed was tuning. It plays like a dream actually I have a hard time putting it down. I have not played much in the last 10 years. This guitar just makes me want to get back into it.

Small "A" Neck with no finish which makes it easy to play. Have seen the same neck recently on an HSS Fender Strat for about a grand. That was priced a bit high in my opinion as well. This is outrageously over priced for an instrument with only a basswood body. The case or bag is optional? Way too much. Yes it represents an iconic instrument from 40 years ago. It plays very well. For a fan of EVH I agree, they should buy this guitar. But this is far off the top of the list of versatile instruments. For me the best part of this instrument is the size and feel of the neck. Sorry to come down heavy on it but it is not the original. It isn't even made the in the USA. It is a copy at best and how well copied who knows? If you are in an 80's tribute band then this would still be overpriced but could be worth having if coupled with being a fan of EVH.

Well this was a hard one to get and after Contacting Mr Steve Long himself and the help of Carolyn it’s here. This has to be one of my favourite guitar…plays so well and the quality is so realistic to the one Eddie played…worth every dollars and the drive to Bedford Nova Scotia to pick it up.

Saw this listed in store on Sun. night and bought it Mon. morning... The crew at EVH & Fender did a great job on doing this guitar justice. Awesome paint and striping detail, and the neck is ultra comfy. The jumbo frets make playing a breeze. Great action and proper setup. Not at all cheap $$$, yet worth every penny - to me. Special thanks and kudos to Kevin @L&M Oshawa, for outstanding service!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
