I spent months playing almost every guitar on the wall looking for something in the $2,000 range. I quickly realized that the brighter sound of a Taylor was not for me and that I much prefer the tone and more old school quality of a Martin. This triple o with a slotted headstock really stood out from all of the other guitars on the wall. What makes it really unique is the elongated almost peanut-shaped body, the neck joint being at the 12th fret, and the slotted headstock which increases the angle of the strings past the nut providing more sustain. Surprisingly, I found this guitar had a deeper and chunkier low end when compared to the dreadnought or 14 fret version in the same series. It might have to do with the elongated body but I'm not sure. All I know is that I absolutely love it and play it almost every day for the past two years. I haven't even had it professionally set up yet either. Played great from day one. There are absolutely no frills on this guitar although the tuning pegs have a slightly ornate and classic look to them. No binding and no nonsense. All the money goes into the materials and craftsmanship. Things you should know about this guitar are that the matte finish will develop a gloss where your hand makes repeated contact. The strings have a slightly larger spacing than most acoustics which is great for finger style and flat picking. I definitely agree that this guitar begs to be picked. I've been playing mine with Ernie Ball everlast medium light which I seem to prefer over Martin or the Dadario strings for this guitar. The woods used have an intoxicating smell, and the vanilla scent inside the hard case combines to create the smell of sweet tobacco and brandy every time I open the case. If there was any downside to this guitar it would have to be that the frets seem to be made of butter. I have more wear on the second and third frets of the first and second string after a few months of playing then I see you on cheap beginner guitars after 10 years. I think this is one of the ways they keep the cost down on this great guitar. This is by no means a reason to overlook it. It is also by far the lightest acoustic guitar that I've ever picked up. The finish will get scratched very easily as the wood finish is not hard and glossy but rather a light matte finish that leaves the wood feeling open and resonant. Running your hand over the back of the guitar feels like a beautifully sanded plank of wood as opposed to a hard plastic finish. I also agree that it is not a very loud guitar by any means. Not sure how well it holds up in a group setting. If you enjoy the warm tone of mahogany and smaller body guitars then it's a no-brainer in this price range. Nothing touches it in my opinion in terms of playability and tone. I also really enjoy the 1930s understated aesthetics of this instrument. Tip: Don't install the peg for the strap if you don't intend to play standing up. This lets you look inside the guitar which is easily just as beautiful as the outside. It's also the only way you can see the model in serial numbers.

You cannot find any poor reviews of this guitar. And, let me tell you, there is a reason. 'Cause it is everything you hope it might be! I pondered this for months, having read every review and seen every video review, and finally ordered it blind (yep risked not playing it before) during COVD. I could not be happier. It played great literally out of the box, only requiring a slight turn to tune the high E! If you are looking to step away from the spruce top boom, brightness and twangy, as I was, this guitar is for you. It is all warm and mellow Martin. Nonetheless, It has great sustain and nice rumble and growl to it. The guitar literally just begs to be finger picked. While it is comfortable and sounds good to strum, given the neck is at a sweet spot between the width of a regular acoustic and a classical guitar, it really encourages you to pick. And, it just shines in terms of sound when picking. This is exactly what I was looking for, so being a 12 fret and a smaller body size also comfortably fits the bill for me. It is an understated, beauty, which grows on you the longer you look at it - rich brown mahogany, real abalone inlay, and the slotted headstock just makes this one of the nicer looking guitars in my mind. (In retrospect, I would have requested they not install a pickguard to fully display the top and given I don't have need for it.) The smell is truly intoxicating, and beckons. I feel I should pour myself a whiskey neat and don a fresh collared shirt every time I open the case. It isn't pretentious. It is classy! The case is quality. My preference would be for the top of the case to be a little more rigid. However, the interior is as plush as can be and it fits the guitar snug as bug. This really is a forever guitar, if you are looking for: 1) a finger picking friendly guitar 2) with a something mellower than your spruce-top acoustic 3) good with a 12 fret

i have the 000-17sm with the gloss top, that Martin discontinued in 2016. They only produced 1,730 of the 000-17sm guitars. Great little guitar.

I bought mine about 10 months ago. Every time I play it I'm impressed with the sweetness of the tone and the sustain. I play complex finger-style material and there are times when it feels as though the guitar is playing with me. It's like it can understand what I'm trying to get out of it. I've owned several Martins and this one has become my favorite. My only "complaint" is that it isn't as loud as a spruce/rosewood guitar. If you sing, this is a great tool for you.

Very happy with my purchase. Right out of the box - very playable, great sound especially for a small guitar. I also own a Martin D42 and Gibson J45. The reason for buying this one. Need a quality guitar to take anywhere and not worry about it. The smaller size - less fatigue. Love the satin finish. Definitely has that Martin sound. What agreat bargain!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
