TRN Music May Day in Red Square - Prentice/Lambrecht - Concert Band - Gr. 1.5
Composer: Christopher Prentice
Editor: Barbara Lambrecht
Format: Score and Parts
Instrumentation: Concert Band
Level: 1.5
May Day in Red Square is a musical rendering of the Russian ethos. Inspired by the composer's performance with the first American band to march in Red Square since World War II, the piece evokes the grandeur and magnitude of the 800-year-old capital city, from the immense, stately Kremlin, to the ornately beautiful St. Basil's cathedral.
The opening theme, a heavy dance, depicts the spirit of work, and contrasts with the lighter, hymn-like interjections of brass and woodwinds. This work is suitable for concert and festival performances.
