A friend bought me this keyboard as a gift to replace my old upright acoustic that I couldn't take with me when I moved. While I was thoroughly touched by the gesture, and very grateful to still have a piano to play, I know I will be replacing this one fairly soon because its entry-level performance leaves much to be desired for anyone higher than a beginner level.
I have only had the keyboard for 4 or 5 months, and already a few of the black keys have a strange problem where they will no longer sound as loud as the other keys, no matter how hard they are struck.
I also agree with another review that it produces 2 different notes at 2 different volumes, even when struck simultaneously and with the same velocity.
Additionally, the pedal (it only comes with a sustain pedal) is not gradual; it is either fully on or fully off.
The weighting is surprisingly decent. If you are used to acoustic or more expensive digital pianos you will notice the difference, but it's really not bad, especially given the price.
I think any players at an intermediate level or higher would like something with a bit more nuance to it, but I would definitely recommend this keyboard for a beginner on a budget or someone who is just looking to be able to play for themselves in their home without breaking the bank.

Depends what you want. It’s only a beginner instrument. Action is fine, not as heavy as a grand piano, but suitable for weak fingers. Only 10 built-in sounds, but the piano sound is wretchedly bad, and the dynamics are inconsistent - you hit two notes with the same velocity and get two different volumes. For this reason, I returned mine and bought a Yamaha Dgx-670, which has better sounds but I still wouldn’t recommend them.

Guitar player here wanting to learn some boogie woogie pie-ano and this is perfect for me..... Feels and sounds a lot like a real piano. The weighted keys really help, but I don't think they're exactly like a real piano....but.... we're not breaking the bank here and with care, should last. It won't ever get the Jerry Lewis Treatment! It's likely not a gig worthy instrument, but it would probably work for that if you're in a pinch. No real cons for me. Maybe wish it had some handles, but I'm not moving it around. Comes in at 32 lbs, so it's not super easy to move about, and at 4 feet + change, a bit awkward to do so, but manageable if need be. It gets mixed reviews on line, but I think that might be some people wanting a 5 grand piano for $500, lol I'm sure a seasoned piano player could find lots wrong here, (and some have, lol), but in the bedroom, nice & low volume, learning some boogie.... I love it so far. Plenty of different sounds also available. Not into midi can't comment on that. Basic metronome...a must for learning. Has enough ins/outs.... don't really care about the software included for learning. I'll be going by ear & YouTube, lol When you are not use to a keyboard, it opens up another world. It has some dynamics in that it'll get louder depending how hard you hit the keys....to a degree, nothing like a real piano, but hey.... it does the job. I can figure some things out by ear due to guitar playing and have some rudimentary music theory under my belt, but, I'm never intending or wanting to be a pianist, and this thing sounds plenty good enough for my needs. It'll do the boogie piano sound just fine... sounds just like a real piano...and the synth /organ sounds are not too bad neither. You'll be able to come somewhat close to getting into the ballpark of something like the intro to Van Halen's 'Jump' with this ...not quite, but it'll sound like your'e trying, lol Just using it raw with the speakers. Not really super loud....but I don't need it to be... the really low keys are sort of....'funky' sounding....could be just me, lol. Have other things to plug it into, but won't be needing them for a long while, maybe never. I'd say to buy this to learn on . Has everything anyone would need initially... I've got about 10 guitars so I definitely needed a piano keyboard. (^_^) Didn't want a toy and this doesn't feel like one. It's probably comparable to like a good cheaper guitar..... it'll take you to middle ground and if you need better, you won't feel like you've wasted money for nothing. Under $500 on sale ...even got a cheap stand that's perfect for it on sale as well. Has a sustain pedal. I guess there's good use for it, but that's down the road. Holds the note after you play it. Mine is on ceramic floor so it doesn't slide around, but don't know about a carpet. Overall it's more instrument than I actually need or want, but who knows? May expand my musical horizons some,... but it's no toy and not super expensive and sounds plenty good enough to my guitar ears.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
