The sparrowhawk, also known as the American kestrel, is one of the few raptors whose range includes the highest elevations of California's Sierra Nevada. Sparrowhawk evokes this small hawk soaring among the imposing granite crags above timberline. Featuring both rhythmic and melodic opportunities for all instruments and plenty of activity for six percussionists, Sparrowhawk works as a dramatic opener or finale.
