This is an amazing amp. The clean channel alone gives you so much tonal breadth. With the channel volume lower and the master high, you get tons of headroom, pristine cleans. The higher the channel volume the more grit you get to the point where you can sound like the Stones' Can't You Hear Me Knockin. Plus there are the side controls that can go from dual reverb tones to ac30 tones. Add the internal boost and maybe a tube screamer and suddenly with just the clean channel, you've got tons of range. Then there's 3 distortion channels, each with their own character. And it's 2 lbs and fits on my pedalboard. With an FX loop and a built in noise gate. And possible midi control via the remote 1 footswitch or the midi 1 cable - which Long and McQuade doesn't carry :( -- I emailed Mr Blug and await a reply - he is very responsive.

I can see why all the guitar publications like Premier Guitar and MusicRadar give this Amp a 5 out of 5 rating. Very well built and extremely loud at 100 watts. The chimey sparkling Clean channel does Fender and Vox sounds. The Three Overdrive channels give you a tour of Marshall Amp sounds and American High Gain. I bought the Amp for the Vintage channel. This is where this Amp shines. It gives you the JTM45 sounds. It has a smooth round sound and untight with lots of sag. If you tweek this channel you can get a super lead plexi sound and the Classic channel takes you into JCM 800 territory. The Modern gets you into higher gain sounds and metal. The sounds are incredible and mimic the classic tones of the past. The nano tube is the best in the world, a Russian military grade and will last longer than I will. I do not own a Marshall Amp and I get all the Marshall tones I want without breaking my back lifting anything heavy. And if you are after a tighter sound check out the BluGuitar Amp 1 Mercury Edition which has more tightness to all the tones. Thomas Blug is a genius. I am very impressed with my BluGuitar Amp 1.

I took the bluguitar amp1 mercury edition home and had the same issue as another reviewer. No usable tones on overdrive channels . It was muddy, boxy sounding and sounded like a broken speaker most of the time. It doesn't like digital pedals either. The clean channel was the only one usable and without any other effects is dry with no sustain at all really. The Black Spirit 200 I sold was much better than this amp altogether. If you pick one up try everything before leaving the store or better yet don't buy until you do.

I bought an old version 2 years ago used one from Reverb, now available in Canada to my surprise. I can always find some interesting sounds depends on my mood. It takes time to get all the honey out of it. Highly recommend this masterpiece for the price.

I have taken a few months to learn the ins and outs of the Amp 1 and love it. I have been able to get everything I need with this amp and have had zero issues. It is loud, clear and easy to operate. My only nit is with the voicing controls on the side, they are a little too small and close together so manipulating them can be a bit of a challenge. Other than that I have zero complaints with this amp and highly recommend it. I do have a friend who purchased one that had issues so I suspect the negative review on this page may be from someone who, sadly, purchased and Amp 1 that had a flaw from the factory. He should have returned it for a replacement. I have had none of the issues noted in the negative review.

Just got this a week ago. I can’t believe how great the tones are from this beast. Playing it through a 2x12 with G12-65s. I highly recommend it to those who can get over the image challenge of not have a traditional head sitting on your cabinet. Sometimes good things DO come in small packages. Probably gonna keep this forever.

I don't know what the fellow above is talking about with the tone being muffled but my amp1 mercury edition rocks. I had the original version of the amp 1 and while I liked it there were things that I did not like about it. This version is miles above the original version. The channels blend well and you can go from a nice overdriven tone to the classic which adds a bit more gain then to the modern which gains it up a bit further. On the original amp 1, I hated the vintage channel, on this version it is so much better, I could stay on the vintage channel all night and with a boost for leads its great. Even in the store where I purchased it, employees kept coming over saying how good it sounded and were very surprised out of the tones from this unit. If you want Marshall tones and do not want to carry a heavy amp you don't have to now ! Honestly this unit sounds so good its a no brainer. I have mine paired with a H and k 2 12 cab sounds great.

I was super excited to have a small portable Tube Amp with me instead of having to Carry one to the shows. I purchased the Amp 1 along with the HX Effects unit. Thinking I will have an endless pedal board and amazing Tube Tone. WRONG!!!!! The only usable tone out of the AMP 1 is the Clean. The Vintage, Classic and Modern tones out of the Amp 1 are Horrible and MUDDY! No separation in the notes. Just one Mess of DARK/MUFFLED distortion. I tried endlessly to try and dial in nice tone but it seems impossible to get something that sounds great in the crunch or distortion channels. Perhaps something is wrong with the Tube? Perhaps I have a Dud? Not too sure. But I tried for about 3-4 hours to get some usable tones out of it and only nice tone I found was on the clean channel. Don't waste your money on this product. It sounds bad, and its way way way overpriced for what you get in it.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
