New mics, new sound
The H2n features our best microphones yet and is the only portable recorder with five mic capsules onboard. This design enables the H2n to offer four unique recording modes: Mid-Side (MS) stereo, 90 X/Y stereo, 2-channel and 4-channel surround sound.

The first portable Mid-Side recorder
The H2n is the first handheld recorder to offer Mid-Side stereo recording, a technique used for many years in film and broadcast, where ambiance and surrounding noise are crucial. Mid-Side recording combines a uni-directional Mid mic that captures sound directly in front of you and a bi-directional Side mic that captures sound from your left and right. By increasing or decreasing the level of the Side mic, you can control the width of the stereo field, which gives you incredible flexibility over your recordings. If you record in RAW mode, you can even adjust the stereo width after recording.

Mid-Side (MS) mics provide continuously variable stereo width control

You still get X/Y
The H2ns onboard 90 X/Y stereo condenser mics are arranged with the right and left mics on the same axis. This design ensures that the mics are always equidistant from the sound source for perfect localization and no phase shifting. The result is brilliant stereo recording with natural depth and accurate imaging.

X/Y mics capture remarkable stereo depth and clarity

Completely surrounded
Using the H2ns Mid-Side and X/Y mics together, you can create stunning 360 surround sound recordings. Choose between 2-channel mode, which combines the Mid-Side and X/Y mics, and 4-channel mode, which records two separate stereo files, allowing you even more post-production capability. No matter which mode you use, youll get perfectly balanced, surround sound recordings.

Streamline your recording experience
The H2n is remarkably easy to use. With its newly designed user interface, critical controls are right at your fingertips and make studio-quality recording a breeze.

The H2n also houses an arsenal of comprehensive functions, including Auto-Gain, a compressor/limiter, time stamping and more.

Weve got you covered
Never again will you have to worry about losing recorded data to unexpected errors. The H2n has you covered with its new data recovery function. Whether you experience battery loss or an accidental power-down, this feature will automatically restore your data the next time the H2n is powered on.

20 hours of battery life
The H2n provides over 20 hours of continuous operation on just two standard AA alkaline batteries! This astonishing feature enhances the H2ns flexibility and convenience. In addition, the H2n can also operate using an AC adapter, which is included in the optional APH-2n Accessory Pack.

Bigger and brighter
The H2n's 1.8-inch backlit LCD display (128 x 64 resolution) provides crystal-clear monitoring and makes it simple to navigate all of the units functions.

Turning to analog
Digital volume controls offer too much or too little gain, with no middle ground. The H2ns Mic Gain wheel allows you to dial-in the perfect amount of gain for any given application.

Play it back and listen
The H2ns built-in reference speaker lets you know your recordings have been captured. With its 1/8-inch stereo output, you can also playback your recordings on your home audio system or listen to your masterpiece using your favorite pair of headphones.

Secure your memories
The H2n uses SD/SDHC cards and can accommodate up to a 32GB SDHC card for over 50 hours of recording time using the 16-bit/44.1kHz WAV format. With 128kbps MP3 format, you get an incredible 555 hours of stereo recording.

Transfer and edit at High-Speed
Use the H2ns High-Speed USB 2.0 interface to transfer files to your Mac or PC. Once your recordings are on your computer, you can easily store, edit, playback and share your favorite creations. You can even use the H2n as a USB microphone, letting you record directly to your computer.

Software included
Steinbergs WaveLab LE 7 can be used for audio editing and professional-quality mastering. By using its precise waveform editing and high-quality processing, you can refine your recordings into finished works.

Accessorize with ease
The H2n accessory package (APH-2n) is also available with a variety of accessories that make it easier for you to capture your recordings. The accessory kit includes a wired remote control with an extension cable, windscreen, AC adapter (USB type), USB cable, adjustable tripod stand, padded-shell case and mic clip adapter.

The H2ns wired remote can be used to start, stop and pause recordings, as well as to add marks. Its also useful in preventing handling noise.

In one of these reviews, someone asks "Why can't they invent something that just records and plays?" And I would agree that this little machine is too crammed with features for its own good. I remember when a cassette recorder had one button for play, one button for record, etc. But I fear the trend is now to have just one button with multiple functions, and it's so easy to make a mistake. To wit: I pushed the button the wrong way (whatever that means) and I seem to have erased about 15 hours of music I had recorded! I had to buy a new SD card and start over. But now I worry about the loop function. Say you want the part from 10:00 to 20:00 to repeat indefinitely. You can make a "loop". Well, I've now made a loop accidentally about five times! I have one card that is useless because an unintended loop starts so very soon, and I don't know how to get around the loop. Some would say that for the price (over $300), they're entitled to features. I would say that for that price, I'm entitled to simplicity.

This isn't going to replace a multi track recorder or be the center piece of a DAW. To me, it's a tool to listen back to myself and understand where my weak performance parts are, OR, to capture a good idea on the fly. It records better than some "off the board" recordings I've heard. In the first day of use, I was able to identify that Toms were mixed to low and that I was shying away from my vocal mic too much. It came with licences for Cubase and Wavelab LE. This was a huge value to me as my Sonar licencing and system is very out of date and I haven't committed to purchasing updates. I'm at least able to normalize and EQ the wavs so I can get the most out of them. I suggest the accessory pack with the ac adapter, stand, remote and wind screen.

I've owned the H2 for years. The sound is true and excellent. During band practices at my house, we record our last time through each song (usually that's our best take for each song that night). As the 3 other band members are driving home, I insert the H2's memory card into my Mac, and double-click on each song, causing it to appear and play in my iTunes. I label each song in my iTunes, and then drag them into emails to send to the band members. By the time they get home 20 minutes later, the songs are usually in their email inboxes. Then we email each other with feedback and responses. Pretty sweet. After many years, the Record button is now fussy, and it takes a few pushes to Arm it, and a few more to activate it, so I have to look VERY carefully to make sure the Recording has in fact begun.

I'm a film sound editor and foley artist and I recently bought this for a feature film foley project. So far it's given me amazing quality foley recordings, both indoor and outdoor. Very decent and sensitive mics on the unit, perfect for foley work. I also use it as my computer audio interface, which is surprisingly good and latency free. I bought the recorder with the very good accessory pack, which is totally worth the money. You get a remote control, windsock, handle, tripod, carrying case, etc. I also love the position of the record button, which is better than any of their other previous and current models. Works perfectly with the handle grip. Also love the analog mic gain knob. I wish they had the same for headphone gain on the other side of the unit - it takes a lot longer to press and hold the - button to turn town the output volume. But that is by no means a dealbreaker feature. All in all, very highly recommended for portable professional use. Next upgrade would probably be the incredible-looking H6 if I ever get into location recording.

Does everything they say it does - only even better than I had thought it would. Would like to have had the power supply and wind protector included and the mic is very 'plasticky', but as a whole it represents great value for the money. I love it.

It has some *hiss* noise when recording. I wasn't able to find a setting to remove it on the device so it needs to be done with noise removal software, which can result in losses in the wanted audio.

I originally was so impressed with H1 Zoom recorder, that I then bought the H2 when it came out. Why? The quality of both recorders is amazing, but the H2 has an easy one-button recording mode. It's easy to keep doing takes. The built-in limiter and gain work great. The only downside if you have to buy the accessory kit separately for the H2.
