I just got the Nord Grand (first series) as it was on clearance. I have had many digital pianos, and this is my favourite by far. The action is great, the build-quality is top, and it is a pleasure to play. No organs, but as a controller, it works fine for this. You can map one of the pedals to do things like rotary speaker or pitch bend. Another huge plus for this is the Nord library. I know I can switch out sounds for years to come as Nord releases new models. While this does not do 1000 things, the things that it does do (sound and play) are the best I have had ever used. The only downside (which is a plus for me as it stays in my studio) is it is big. It is not too heavy, but if your needs are for something portable, you might want to look at something else. If you are set on Nord, while you could get something more portable, there would be a downgrade in action (still fine I am sure, but this action feels amazing- I would rather have the better action). Highly recommend and I am sure the new model is even better.

I have a Stage 3 and wanted a better piano experience so i ordered the Grand and waited about 9 months for delivery. I was taking classical Grade 9 lessons, practicing on a Stage 3 and thought the Grand would be better all around for this purpose, i had no idea that the Grand would be a lesson in frustration that no other keyboard has given me in 40 years. I agree that the Nord piano samples combined with the 3 sensor Kawai action is outstanding and blows the doors off anything else out there IMO. But just sitting down, powering up and playing is not how using this piano goes. Remember to hit panel lock, want to adjust effects on the fly? hold panel lock button to unlock, adjust parameters, hit panel lock to lock out buttons. For me the design and placement of the front panel buttons, not being able to make live adjustments on a $5000 keyboard because the panel lock has to be engaged is total BS. Nord chose design over functionality. Out of all the Nord keyboards the Grand gives the smallest sample memory, a very limited/neutered effects section that are just not fun compared to the Stage 3. Would you rather have the Stage 3 effects with knobs where you can dial in the amount of effect you want with an analog dial ( say chorus, reverb, delay etc) or on the grand the knob is replaced with a 3 segment tap button for small, med, max effect parameters? But the price difference between the Stage 3 and Grand is not much. The Grand would be fantastic and worth the price if it had the full effects section as the Stage 3. As it is right now this is overpriced by at least $2500 and you have to put up with hitting buttons while you play. And when you forget the piano immediate remins you that you forgot to press the panel lock button , $5000

This is the most enjoyable and inspiring digital piano I have ever played. I sold my RD-700NX (and a few other treasured items) to get it, and a month later I still find myself in awe every time I sit down at it. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but, honestly, I would have bought this piano if all it had was an on/off switch. It has re-invigorated my love of piano and composing for piano, and it just sits so beautifully in any mix, or improvisation, in my studio. No eq or compression needed. Not even reverb, the White Grand sample is so rich and full. I also bought the Nord Monitors, which sound great, although the improvement over GOOD studio monitors may not warrant their price. I have JBL 305s, and in my case, I am glad I bought the Nords...although it sounds awesome on either/both. I use 2 A/B/Y boxes to route the piano into my DAW, as the monitors (or the Grand itself) have no extra outputs, other than headphone on the piano. The Kawai action feels unlike any other Nord. Also it's worth noting that the red colour is not as bright as other Nords...it's darker and more subdued...a bit more "cherry". In fact, I have never been a big Nord fan. This piano stands on its own, IMO, and so it must really be judged on its own merits, not on Nord. It has fewer features than the usual Nord, although there are, of course, still strings and pads, etc, to layer with the pianos. Additionally the Grand can load up any number of samples from the Nord library...even organs and synths. What came with it were more like ePianos and Mellotron sounds, the latter which are great, although not that useful to me. No, at the end of the day, this piano...is a piano. And the most astoundingly enjoyable non-acoustic piano I've ever sat in front of, by far.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
