Spanning the gamut of known delay possibilities and beyond, the Echosystem could be the ultimate delay-crafting tool. Faithful emulations of classics like digital, tape and analog delays are numerous, as well as Empress' own take on each of these delay styles. Moving beyond the traditional, the vast amount of sonic ground the Echosystem can cover becomes apparent. Check out the ambient modes when you're feeling chilled out, or perhaps a visit to the multi tap modes for a taste of inspiration.

The Dual Engine functionality allows any 2 of these delays to be used together, routed in either parallel, series, or left/right configurations.

Features
6+ studio quality algorithms and counting - The pedal has 12 algorithm types, all with multiple variations. For example, there are 4 different tape delays on tap.
Classic Sounds - Emulations of classic tape and analog units are available, as well as our take on these types of delay.
Easy to use and fast to dial in - All the algorithm controls are sitting on a knob in front of you, no fiddling through laborious menus.
Up to 35 Presets - Settings can be saved to 35 presets. With three stomp switches, accessing the presets is easy.
2 Preset Modes - Bank style or scrolling style preset modes.
Cabinet Simulator - 3 variations to choose from, perfect for recording, practicing or for gigs without an amp.
Output Transformer - Get hum-free operation when operating in stereo with two amps. Output 2 is isolated with a transformer to eliminate nasty ground loops.
High Quality Audio - 48kHz sampling, with 24 bit conversion and 32 bit internal processing.
Analog Dry Path - Dry signal is left untouched, and blended with the wet signal using VCA.
Unsurpassed Connectivity - The Universal Control Port allows you to connect an expression pedal, external tap switch, control voltage, external audio input and MIDI - all using a standard 1/4" jack!
12 Modes - Digital, Tape, Analog, Multi, Mod, Filter, Ambient, Delay and Reverb, Reverse, Stutter, Lo-Fi and Whisky

The Echosystem is my third pedal from Empress Effects for the last month (after their Compressor Mkii and Reverb which I purchased from L&M). I purchased the Echosystem directly from Empress Effects since they had a 20% discount in the first couple of days of 2023 (Steve Bragg also made me a 20% discount on the Reverb I purchased at L&M, I could not believe that!). I enjoy now the three pedals and wait for the right moment to buy their ParaEQ which is the Queen of tone shaping. For about 2 weeks the three pedals changed my way of playing and I can not imaging playing without them. Before buying the Empress Compressor I tried a couple of other pedals such the ones from Xotic and Keely, but the Empress alternative was irresistible. The Reverb and the Echosystem replaced the EarthQuaker Avalanche Run V2. A great pedal but hard to compete with the Empress giants in terms of tone quality and overall potential. But hear this. I am currently in Athens, Greece, on a business trip, and have visited a great pedal store - Music Accessories: https://www.musicaccessories.gr. I spent 40 min in the store checking things out and talking to the guy who had a perfect English and deep knowledge of the industry. The store had several of the Empress pedals. The guy new the history of the company, the value of their pedals etc. As he said: "Empress is as good as it gets." He explained to me why he personally liked the Reverb and pointed out that bouzouki players in Athens like the ParaEQ a lot. As he said, this is one of the few cases of a pedal when the customers call you back to say thank you.

I have had the Echosystem for 6 months now and it is hands down the best delay box I have ever owned. Every single mode is outstanding, highly tweakable, yet still intuitive to use with NO menu diving. Tons of ways to setup each delay with a single engine, dual engine, series/parallel, you name it. Another thing that has really impressed me how you can blend the delay with your existing sound. The "Mix" knob controls this. You can dial in the exact amount of delay and it blends in extremely well. Even with a lot distortion with my amp (Mesa Boogie) you can add as much or as little delay to the signal as you want. It does not seem to suck the tone or drown it out when playing or recording. It is NOT muddy, especially the digital mode which sounds awesome. Other delays I have used put a 'blanket' over the sound, not this one. The Tone knob also allows you to darken or brighten things up just right for the room or guitar. I have only explored the surface of this pedal. My favourite modes so far are Digital, Tape and Delay + Reverb. You can actually use the Reverb mode with no delay tempo, effectively giving you a very nice digital hall reverb (one of the best I've heard). The Ambient mode is also really cool Another thing that is cool is the way the Tape delays fade out with the feedback, it really does a good job at balancing the highs & lows. The delay trails sound phenomenal with each mode. As expensive as this pedal is, I have to say that its a tremendous value. To get this many good sounding delays and modes might seem overkill, but you'll never go searching for a delay box again. Empress also periodically releases new firmwares which add even more modes to the existing delays, you simply cannot beat it.

I rated the ES a 4.5 because overall I'm happy with it but I am still in the honeymoon stage. I like that it has decent algorithms for Echoplex, RE-201, BBD, Echrec, digital and DMM. The ability to run duel engines is great for creating ambient soundscapes to jam with (think early Pink Floyd) on my looper. Some things that I don't like is the set screws, in particular on the Mode mode knob... for $600+ could Empress not afford to add a bit of thread locker... embarrassing really. There have been comments on various threads about the lack of a Spring reve yes, that is also something I agree is missing... BUT, if you have ever heard the Spring algorithm on the ER you would NOT want it on the ES. It is hands down awful and completely unusable so I don't really "miss" it. Now if the Spring sounded like the Source Audit, then I'd be begging to include it in a future update. I added an EP booster pre-delay and, combined with the Echoplex sound, can easily give any other high end "Deluxe Belle Epoch" some serious competition.

I've had my Echosystem for nearly a year now, and I use it all the time. Pros: tap tempo with lots of subdivision choices, easily accessible presets, high quality sound of direct and effected signal, a good selection of delay types, stereo operation, two delay engines, supports line and guitar level signals, master level control, analog dry path. The two engines can run in series, parallel, or left/right, or you can just run one engine in single engine mode. Cons: Need to keep the manual close by for some functions, no spring reverb, no new algorithms since launch. I know this is a delay pedal, but if you're going to include any reverbs at all in a guitar-centric pedal, why no spring reverb? It has Hall and Plate only. Note: keep those set screws tight! If the mode select knob gets a bit loose, it can cause the push button action that switches between engine 1 and 2 not to work. If that happens, simply raise the knob and tighten it up or email Empress support. Conclusion: This is a great pedal live with easy to select presets and tap tempo. It also shines for recording because it sounds great, has a full set of controls and many algorithms. If you don't need a spring reverb, the included reverbs are very good and you could forego a dedicated reverb pedal.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
