Simply Sophisticated

With the 200 series, BOSS introduces a new generation of pedals that pack advanced sound and versatility into a streamlined size that saves space on your board. Grab-and-go controls and multi-function switches make operation easy and intuitive, while onboard memories allow you to store multiple setups for instant recall. All 200 series pedals feature premium audio quality with 32-bit AD/DA, 32-bit internal processing, and 96 kHz sampling rate, plus support for additional control via external switches, an expression pedal, or MIDI.

Outfitted with algorithms from the flagship MD-500, the MD-200 Modulation delivers an array of world-class effects in one small, convenient pedal. Twelve different modes provide every mod sound you need and more, and each includes customized controls that unlock deep tone shaping right from the panel. And with the powerful insert function, it's simple to patch in drive pedals and other effects for selectable pre or post processing.

Twelve Mod Essentials in One Pedal
Compact and mighty, the MD-200 gives you every key mod effect in a minimal footprint. Modern and vintage BOSS chorus effects are included, plus phaser, flanger, rotary, vibrato, and tremolo. Classic vibe and '70s phaser effects are also available, complete with selectable distortion for added versatility. BOSS's famous Slicer delivers lots of cool rhythmic grooves, while the rich Overtone effect dishes up fat octave tones and unique sonic colors. There's a highly adjustable auto wah as well, which can double as a foot wah when an expression pedal is connected.

Dial in Sounds Fast
With the MD-200's simple and direct interface, it's easy to craft inspiring sounds in the heat of the moment. Using dedicated controls, you can quickly dial in rate, depth, and level for any selected mode. You can also tap in the rate with a footswitch while playing, and visually set note subdivisions right from the panel. Going further, three additional parameter knobs dynamically change functions with each mode, providing extended tone shaping with no need to menu dive.

Save and Recall Your Favorite Setups
The MD-200 offers four onboard memories for saving favorite setups and recalling them while performing. There's also a Manual setting that reflects the current panel status, essentially giving you a fifth setup to choose from. You can scroll through memories with an MD-200 footswitch, and it's also possible to limit the scrolling range or assign memories directly for even faster access.

Instantly Change Effect Order for Optimum Tone
Using the MD-200's insert loop function, you're able to patch external pedals, set the ideal effect order, and save the setting to an onboard memory. For example, you can place a phaser or classic vibe before an external pedal in one memory, a chorus or flanger after in the next, and then switch between them. This is particularly useful with drive pedals, where the signal order can have a dramatic effect on the selected mod sound.

Deep Real-Time Control
By default, the MD-200's multi-function footswitches control bypass, memory scrolling, and tap tempo, but you can easily reassign them to alternate functions as needed. External control is also possible via footswitches or an expression pedal, and MIDI I/O is even provided on space-saving mini TRS jacks. Via MIDI, you're able to chain multiple 200 series pedals and select memories on all of them at once, and also control various functions from MIDI devices like the ES-8 and ES-5 effects switchers.

If you want just 2 of the effects, it's worth the $ (but always love a sale). I like the middle ground of interface + use and don't need the midi controls. If going with an ALL Boss 200 setup of OD, Modulation & Delay, the midi would be almost a must. (Nice rig if so!) I set display to Tempo to find my modulation rate vs bpm & then tweak everything else from there. Very quick ear science. The parameters that allow frequency shaping are the best as amp volume moves around. There's digital resonances that move in & out due to EQ, and a smidge up or down on the MD200 high & low dials are better than EQ pedal or amp EQ tweaks that sound good to great across multiple volumes. It's enough to add or remove that "edge." If you need all analog/swear off digital signal artifacts, or need stacking, get what you need. But daaaang, CE1 chorus with tremolo only and MXR90 phaser with distortion options, both with expanded parameter tweaking, that's sweeeeeet. I use these & similar effects into a DS1 set for edge crunch to get that a late 70s to early 80s rock & metal tone. It phases lightly fuzzy into crunchy spank as it modulates via volume like its just under or at sonic saturation. Turn down the guitar volume and it's that great middle ground of "turn it up" but don't need to. The Chorus (Prime) is like a tweakable Dimensions IMO... I need another amp. And then Rotary becomes more useful too. Got the inexpensive M-Audio expression pedal & got a full wah now. And waht a wah. Because again, expanded parameter shaping. Made sure I also got a couple cables long enough to help move its chain position and flex the EQ and waveform shapers as I expand my playlist. I don't use the Insert Loop option that lets channel B act as a line selector with pre sets, but it'll help for small board setups when the time comes.

If I had to do it again I'd maybe try the DD-200 instead, I'm sure there's a lot of usable sounds in it for some but I didn't like the way it played with dirt pedals (be it in or out of the internal effects loop). Traded it for some other pedals of interest.

This is a very high quality pedal the sounds are hifi. The controls are simple potentiometers, no deep diving, thank God! This thing is a beast and will surely rival the strymon’s and H9’s but this is so simple to use it will likely take the #1 spot! If you want to hear it come see my test on thepaddedpeddalroom utube channel. I highly recommend this pedal and would also suggest going to L&M st eustach To pick one up, the service is A1!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
