The Yorkville YSM5 is the most compact studio monitor in the YSM series, making it perfect for small listening spaces and desktop studios. Unmatched clarity, precise reproduction and surprisingly punchy bottom end response for a monitor in this class, the YSM5 uses a solid -inch MDF cabinet and baffle to reduce rumble and cabinet self-interference. The front facing port design solves the issue of bass coupling with back walls and corners in small environments which can generate false low-frequency information in your mix.
Compatible with virtually any source, Yorkville YSM5 has a widely variable input trim control making it compatible with any source including direct connection to a soundcard, or connection to a professional console control room output. Four position high frequency trim control that allows user to adjust EQ to compensate for speaker placement in less than perfect listening spaces.
Contoured MDF baffles, custom designed soft dome tweeters and high quality low frequency woofers used in Yorkville's YSM Series monitors combine to minimize front face reflections creating improving phase response, providing a wider 'sweet spot' in the listening position. Front facing port design solves the issue of bass coupling with back walls and corners in small environments which can generate false low-frequency information in your mix.
Compatible with virtually any source, Yorkville YSM Series Studio Monitors have a widely variable input trim control for the balanced XLR / 1/4-inch combi-jack input.
Rock-solid 3/4-inch MDF cabinet construction with heavy internal bracing and ample internal dampening material reduces unwanted low frequency rumble ensures Yorkville YSM Series cabinets reproduce source material with near pinpoint accuracy and detail.

I've been using the YSM8s for a long time. Love em. I'm sure I'll love the YSM5s for my mobile purpose. I posted here because I had a sticking power button on one of my YSM8s. Fortunately, I had a steel fingerpick handy. I just gave it a gentle tug, and it popped back out. They should provide a steel fingerpick with every purchase. Cheers.

These speakers sound much better than their size suggests. The bass is full and tight and the highs are crisp and clear. Excellent sound quality for the size and price. Like some of the other reviewers, one of my pair of speakers has the sticking power button and I couldn't fix it myself. Unfortunately this meant a 3 hour drive to our closest L&M for a warranty exchange. The guys at the North Bay Ontario store were awesome to deal with, as usual. Moral of the story - check the power switch before taking them out of the store - especially if you live far away.

I upgraded from some "BOSE Companion 2 Series III" multi-media speakers to complete Mac "studio" in my apt. No comparison! Like comparing apples to pickup trucks.
Absolutely fantastic. I hear EVERYTHING now, crystal clear. Clean, tight bass, more than enough power to initiate meeting the neighbours.
I could not be more pleased, and that with high expectations from Yorkville Sound. They deliver yet again.

Love these monitors as they provide me with a clean and crisp reference, however the power button recently got stuck in the on position after having them for only a few months. From what I heard other people have had these issues, so hoping Yorkville can find a solution for others! I still would definitely recommend these monitors, outstanding bang for your buck

I honestly can't review the studio monitors in terms of sound quality because I never actually got to the point of trying them. Exchanged them three times and all three times the new set had the same issue. The front power button often gets jammed when you go turn on your monitors.

They sound pretty much the same as my old ysm1 ( poor man ns10). They have plenty of bass for the size in a small room usage (and neighboor). They cut between 150-100hz just by ear. I like these. Great speaker. I’m in love. I’l check to mod them with a better twitter (ehh mehh not the best). Overall, for the price, they are great great wonderfull monitor. I repeat, I’m in love. Great set.

I needed small studio monitors for my desk space. I read all the good reviews, and bought a pair. Wow, amazing sound. Compared to the tinny speakers in my computer, the YSM5’s have loads of bass. Very clear sound! If I had the space I would have grabbed the YSM6, but I am VERY pleased with these powered monitors!
Way to go Yorkville!

I needed to replace my monitors. After ABing a number of units I settled on these but they hadn't been in my list to try out when I went to the store but I am sure glad I did. Really pleased with the clarity and definition of the sound, and they plentiful supply of sound - the clarity and definition span the volume range.
And a shout out to the staff at the Sydney branch for their wonderful service and taking the time.

I bought a pair of Kali Lp6 but was so frustrated that it had a lot of crackling noise. There was also hiss but that didn't bother me...It was the crackling noise that drove me nuts! Feeling frustrated, I head to LQ and just bought this pair of YSM5 instead (it was my original choice anyways). Outstanding sound! The details low and high were there without being muddy. Vocals were very natural. I have been listening for an hr now and no ear fatigue! Sending back the Kali's to BH.

These sound quite good but not up close. The bass takes 6-10 feet to 'bloom' and sounds quite good at that distance. Unfortunately, mixing too close...too much bass!

So you want a pair of studio monitors for your home studio and can't decide on one yet? Well, look here. The journey has finished. These are the ones you want. These are perfect beginner and advanced studio monitors out there for a great price. Crisp highs, clear mids and heavy bass, these don't hide any imperfections. They have power buttons too! On the front, no less! Don't bother with the KRK or Yamaha. This guy is great!

I bought these around four years ago. I listened in-store to Rokits etc and was underwhelmed to be honest and I thought I could detect a bit of coloring here and there. Anyway, I came away with the YSM5s and I have never been disappointed!
I've certainly put these hardworking monitors through their paces - they're switched on and working full time - all day every day from morning to night (for 4 years!) and they've never let me down! Don't be fooled by the price tag, they're definitely good enough to help you accurately deliver great sounding work! You don't need to shell out top dollar! These days, it can be a challenge balancing professional with a budget but these monitors are flat, have wonderful clarity (without ear fatigue) and I feel they can be trusted to deliver an honest representation of what I'm doing! Definitely the best quality bang-for-the-buck!

I'm impressed with these. Like alot of other reviewers, I was thinking about the krks, but looking for an alternative as I found them overly middy, 'boxy'. Made me wonder why the krk's were so popular. Not much else in the same price range....Lo and behold, I did some reading about these yorkville 5" and as per my usual frugality, I hmmmed and hawwed and finally decided to dish out $400 with the thought : hey, at least I can always send em back if they don't work out! When they arrived, I hooked em up, listened through most of my recordings through them, and fell in love. These are exactly what I wanted; transparent, clear, and just just plain good. They really showed me the strengths and imperfections of my mixes, I can't stress enough how my mixes have improved since getting these! Great for listening through as well as reference/mixing!

I really love the sound of these and had my eye on them for a long time, and for the price I liked them much more than the rokkit 5's. I did demo them in the store but never doubke checked the features with my own eyes and the one thing that kinda made me upset was that on every review( even on the LandM page they claim to have high and low knobs and when I got them home I realized they only have a high adjust! I then found out only the higher up models have the low knobs! it was one of the reasons I thought it was a great deal for the money and dont know why every product review I read on these they claim the high And low knob! did they used to have them? anyway for the price I still think they sound great. just realize if your wanting a low db know that they dont have one! great sound though! very true, the highs are very clear and crisp and the mids and lows are not muddy at all! very flat and true speaker! perfect for a little basement like mine! worth the money, and down the road you could add a pair of 8 inch monitors or a sub for a great setup! also these are just great for pumpin tunes!!!

Did like all the others, auditionned most speakers at around 400$ a pair (JBL, audioengine,KRK 5, HS 50 Tannoy 4 inches, BX5 and Presonus 5) This one is the less costly, and it came out to me as a clear winner for it's balanced , clean, detailed sound without being too fatiguing on the ears.

I can't believe I bought York studio monitors, but after a ton of research and standing in the store for a while going back and forth between all the pairs on the shelf, it was very apparent they had the best full sound and the best price.. it was a no brainer. They clearly out performed every other 6" and 5" there. They only have trs inputs. They have controls on the back for level and frequency adjustment. I am very happy with these so far!

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty
A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.
Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.
How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.
Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.
Purchasing additional years of coverage
Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:
NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
