My spouse got me a cherry burst 50s Les Paul Standard for Christmas… during Rocktober! What an awesome guitar, the only Les Paul I’ll ever need. Played 5 or 6 to try others, including an R8 Custom Shop, and the Standard literally gave me chills when I picked it up. None of the others made the mark.
Finish, pickups, neck… this has it all. Just perfect! Thanks to Tracey at Vista for helping me through all of this. Always awesome service.

For me this LP was the missing piece to my holy trinity of lifer guitars. I bought mine sight unseen as it was stocked in the warehouse, still untouched sealed in the box. I trust Gibson enough to buy sight unseen, but I don't recommend you do this. The hard shell case is absolutely amazing, I traded in my Epiphone Les Paul1959 Special edition (Gibson custom shop collaboration) for this, and the Gibson case is by far a lot sturdier, a lot better built. The inside red velvet of it matches the red cherry stain on the edge of the guitar body that it just blends so perfectly. The guitar finish and paint are impeccable. I LOVE that this guitar doesn't have any PCB, it has everything hand-wired (so if something fails it's easy to fix), there's no push pull nonsense, it's just a straight "standard" Les Paul. Even though it's a solid piece body (no weight relief), mine doesn't feel all that heavy at all. It's just the right feel for a LP. Also, the neck is a very dark rosewood (just like in the photos here), it's always a gamble as I've even seen some custom shops with light rosewood and it's a bummer. Having a dark rosewood fretboard is amazing. I prefer the 50s version instead of the 60s because of the classic tuners, thicker neck and nicer knobs. THE CONS? Even though Gibson pleck the frets (a robot uses a laser and perfectly finishes the frets), on my guitar the frets were rough, kinda scratchy and not polished, also kinda yellowish, not beautiful shiny metallic silver. One fret even had a big scratch (not a dent though). A deal breaker? Certainly not, but at this price they ought to even give me extra jumbo Stainless Steel frets that are mirror finished, which is something I'll do when it comes time to replacing them. They last forever and are easier to play. For now I'll just polish them myself. Just disappointing when you see an Ibanez 1/5th of the price and the frets are better. This guitar with the big sale right now is the same price as my Fender American Vintage 2 Tele, but you get a bone nut on that, on this you only get a Graphtech nut. Why Gibson? Not a deal breaker again, easy to replace in the future if needed. Also, no joking but the Epiphone 59 Special sounded more woody, it had more of a "mahogany" sound than this. Don't get me wrong, this sounds better, but it's missing some of that "mahogany, don't mess with me" sound I had with the Epiphone... weird! It did have Gibson Burstbuckers too though. OVERALL I'm SUPER HAPPY, the guitar is gorgeous, sounds amazing and you won't be disappointed with it. It feels worth the price for sure (though the Tele is better haha) It's a guitar for life. Can't wait to put some mileage on it. I would've given it 5/5 if it had a bone nut and better frets.

Compared this to the Studio model, and there was no comparison. Weight relief made the Studio not feel like a Les Paul, oddly. The pickups on the Studio were also nowhere near as warm or articulate as the Standard.
The necks felt remarkably similar, but in the end the Standard set the … standard.
Many thanks to Karl at Royal Vista for pointing out one of his favourites at the store, which is now one I’m keeping for life.

I've played SG my whole life due to the lower weight, which is a plus when you stay 3+ hours stand up.
Even so I decided to buy this beauty. It's a beast, definitely a tone machine.
My only complaint is about the tuning machines? for near 130 bucks you can replace them by Kluson locking and be happy.

This RockTober makes me broke. Really. Last week, I just bought a Gibson Standard Goldtop w/P90. Today, I just pulled the trigger again to get this Standard Goldtop w/Humbuckers.
Now, I have goldtop Deluxe W/Mini Humbuckers, Goldtop w/P90 and now I have this w/Humbuckers.
I love them equally. Each of them sound different obviously. This one is awesome. My gosh, I can go to Gary Moore's territory. Keep in mind, I am using a Mesa California 4/40 and a Mesa GoldMine OD..
You do not believe me? You can ask my neighbors that this guitar sound sooooo awesome.
I tank L&M Calgary East Store's Reps. Alex and Brandon. Awesome.

I went in to the Burlington store to look at a classic because of the weight relief. I kept looking at this standard but did not think of it as my Slash Standard is too heavy. I finally caved and picked this one up. It was lighter then the classic, and felt amazing. Since this model was on sale it was a no brainer. I could not be happier

Love this guitar. The finish, sound, and playability are amazing. Just a minor quality control issue with one of the tone knob pointers being loose, but was easy enough to fix myself. No other faults to be found, but for the price, there shouldn't be any at all.
Overall, good experience purchasing from L&M. They could do a better job of inspecting and setting up instruments, especially pricy ones, before turning them over to the customer. Sweetwater in the US seems to go the extra mile for their customers, but since red tape won't allow them to ship to Canada, L&M should up their game and fill that role here.

Ive been a Fender man all my life, having never owned any Gibson electrics. Ive had a blues king and a J45 but never until now have I owned a Les Paul. I cannot express how happy i am with the tone, playability and build quality of this standard 50s model. I just got home from 21 days out on an oil production platform and have been looking forward to this guitar for weeks and it has surpassed all expectations. Thanks Craig, at the st. Absolutely love this guitar. Had always been a Fender guy because of Gibsons quality control issues in recent years, but decided to try out my dream Les Paul and see if things have changed.
Gibson has really got it together with this standard series; looks incredible, quality control is perfect (a slight truss rod adjustment was needed but totally normal after shipping from the factory, etc.), and the pickups are insanely good. Was between this or the p90s, but in my opinion, for the value of the guitar the humbuckers just seemed like the obvious choice.
Very happy with what Gibson has been able to produce following years of quality issues.

Lovely instrument picked mine up, the Gold Top, at the Kanata store last weekend. Blown away by the sound, feel and build quality of this guitar, The finish is just dazzling; I have to wear Sunglasses when I am playing it LOL. Expensive; but, well worth it. IMO Gibson have really picked up there quality control this year. These are great guitars. Thanks L&M for offering 3 year financing to make these and other instruments affordable to aspiring musicians during these difficult times.

I purchased this guitar last September, it works well so far and I love it. But there are 2 things you need to know before you purchase, first, Gibson stop using AAA FLAME MAPLE top for their lp std. From my experience, it doesn't sound different. But if you prefer the classic flame maple look, there is a AAA option and you need to spend hundreds more on it. The second thing is this guitar is a product, not an artwork. I do notice a small crack on my Pickup Ring after I went back home. It is a small crack beside the screw hole. Since it does not affect the sound, I just leave it be.

I have been eying up Les Pauls for a few years now, but never really felt impressed with the build quality.
Friends told me Gibson is back - my friends were right. Went to L&M with the intention to check out one of the 1960s Standard models, but went with the 1950s model.
Surprisingly, I found the thicker neck quite comfortable. It is much thicker than I'm used to, but it feels good.
I think it is fair to say, I didn't know good sound until I plugged this beauty into my rig at home. Such a full, broad and balanced sound with tons of sustain - well, guess that is the LP sound advantage.
Quality is top notch, the case is beautiful and the guitar looks stunning. Many people say Gibsons are overpriced, maybe that applied 3-4 years ago, but the current lineup is high quality and the price compares favourable to alternative LP-style guitars in the premium segment.
It is a Gibson, alright.

Neck is nice and beefy, tone and volume knobs work as there're supposed to, feels great and offers great playability. If you are still skeptical try one out for yourself, it's the only way these guitars can be done justice. Big thanks to Rory from the Mississauga location! Very helpful and patient. I bought this guitar at the Markham location with my friend Rick. Wasn't expecting to walk away with a guitar that day but good friends encourage you. It plays like a dream - it weighs in at about 10-ish pounds and the top is perfectly flamed. The neck is quite beefy and allows you to get your hands on it. (not as beefy as a 58 but still quite beefy) The orange drop capacitors allow for the pots to be audio tapered. 4 sounds like 4, 8 sounds like 8, and 10 roars like a lion in heat. The neck pickup feels like butter and the bridge has a lot of bite. It's an amazing guitar and I'm really thankful I own one. I never found a Les Paul that I really loved or had enough money for one - but this one was the one. Gibson had a lot of quality control issues in the past - The one I grabbed was perfect. No tooling marks - no nothing. If you are interested in one of these - I would 10/10 recommend it.

Finally Picked up a Standard 50s in Heritage Cherry Burst around 3 months ago from L&M Brampton. Have not done the free setup that comes with the guitar yet, but it sounds and plays terrific out of the box. Slight bit of fret buzzing on the upper greys that should disappear once a set-up is complete. The only other issue I have is I believe the toggle switch is most likely wired incorrectly on mine (so much for quality control, wonder if anyone else with this model has the same issue) The Rhythm seems to control the Bridge Pickup and the Treble controls the Neck Pickup. Will hopefully get this fixed when I take it in for a setup. Other than that the sounds that this guitar is capable of producing with tweaks to the tone and volume are phenomenal.

Got this guitar exactly two months ago from L&M. Amazing instrument! Previously was so put off by chambering and other questionable things Gibson did to their Gibson USA line and finally!!! I was considering getting a Traditional - yet having compared to the new '50s Standard - Traditional fell short in the neck department - it is somewhat substantial- but still like a symbiosis between 50s and 60s profile - when you compare the two the new '50s is by far superior - it is the '59 neck profile. No chambering, great weight, delicate AA burst ("mine is Heritage Cherry), fantastic medium output pickups that bark and roar while letting dynamics through - well done, Gibson, well, well done!

I have considered a Les Paul for my home studio for many years and finally pulled the trigger on this one, my other choice was an 79 original used $4000-6000 !! I was put off from some of the production flaws Ive seen and heard about. This is definitely not the case with this guitar ! Right out of the box it was set up perfectly, no flaws or blemishes, fits case snugly with all the case candy-yes case candy was there(strap, warranty card, inspection check w/picture, tools etc).
Plugged it in to my DR Z MAZ 18jr and sonic bliss was achieved immediately. Plays beautifully, has some weight to it but feels like a real guitar, sounds great clean or crunchy. Don’t hesitate if your looking you won’t be disappointed.

Purchased this a couple of weeks back at the Kingston store. Gibson seems to have improved their quality on these new models. The one I have is basically flawless, great setup and finish. I also own a 1958 reissue from the custom shop and aside from some cosmetic differences and the pickups, there really isn't a whole lot of difference. I couldn't say that about the previous standards. I don't think you will be disappointed with this guitar. The staff at the Kingston store are always accommodating and great to work with.

Just purchased from Paul at the Hamilton store. Top-notch service, no pressure at all. He helped me find exactly what suited me.
I especially like the neck pickup for rhythm. Full, thick and creamy sounding. And it's beautiful, with a flawless finish. (I almost wish it had a few minor blemishes to indicate 'hand-built'). Nope. Flawless indeed.
I've always been a "Fender guy", but the sound of this guitar is magnificent. Totally worth it.
I looked into getting a Les Paul after watching a YouTube factory tour of the Nashville factory. I'm thrilled at the direction Gibson has taken after their re-structure. They're actually listening to what the customers want. This guitar is as genuine 1950's as you can get with no extras bells and whistles that nobody wants (robotuners, dipsswitches, push/pull pots etc.). Awesome work Gibson!!

I just walked in the door after buying a 2019 Heritage Cherryburst Les Paul Standard from Long & McQuade South in Calgary.
The guitar is flawless and sounds sooo good through my Fender tube amp! It has some real grunt along with the crisp/mellow or anything in-between clean sounds, and I haven't even plugged it into any effects pedals yet. This guitar is everything I ever wanted in a Les Paul. The guitar sitting with the sun glinting off of it is gorgeous, and a work of art IMO
The service at L&Q is second to none. Huge thanks to Hari who never pressured me, he just made sure I had the right guitar, and then ticked off every box in terms of customer satisfaction. Very cool guy and a great experience buying my first LP. OK, back to playing!!!

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty
A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.
Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.
How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.
Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.
Purchasing additional years of coverage
Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:
NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
