Special Edition Custom Telecaster

An exquisite high-end Telecaster experience awaits the player who gets his hands on a Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH. Firstly, it looks phenomenal, with a carved flame maple top on a mahogany body, cream body binding, a gorgeous Amber finish with a matching headstock, a mahogany set neck, abalone dot fingerboard inlays and black hardware. Second, it sounds phenomenal, with dual Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups, three-way pickup switching, a push/pull coil tap switch built into the master tone control knob, and more. A decidedly non-traditional Telecaster of peerlessly crafted style and powerful sonic substance.

Out of all the guitars I’ve owned over the years, this one is easily the most strange. It’s a telecaster but just barely, as it weighs nothing (almost feels like a toy at first) and sounds and feels nothing like a telecaster. That being said, once you get used to the weight it’s actually very comfortable to play with a fast neck and nice action. The control layout, at least for me, is a little awkward because the toggle switch is in a tight spot between the knobs. I wish they would have put the toggle near the top of the guitar like a Les Paul, but that’s just a preference thing. The one major issue I had with this guitar, and the reason I sold it, was it doesn’t want to stay in tune to save its life. Even after having it set up by L&M it would still go out of tune mid-song, which I’ve never seen before. If you can put up with tuning issues (which I don’t know any musicians that do) this is a great guitar. Maybe I just got a lemon, who knows. I just know it was a deal breaker on an otherwise cool and unique instrument

I ordered one of these in the Black Cherry after reading and hearing the reviews on Youtube and when it arrived it was pretty badly dented in the area by the input well. (sad) Possibly happened en route to the store(?)
As disappointed as I was I re-ordered.
Within a week a 2nd one arrived in perfect shape. Took it home and the input jack was faulty and the sound kept cutting out.
The wonderful guy at Owen Sound repaired it for me to perfection in like 20 mins and I was well pleased.(Thank you again!)
Considering all this you are possibly wondering why on Earth I gave this instrument such a good rating.
Well, I gotta tell you, the sound that comes from this instrument is deceptively good considering it is featherweight.
I've been playing music since 1969 and I plugged in a Gibson Les Paul Custom of mine (1984) ..this one has either Shaw or Seth Lover p'ups in it and weighs a TON. Put it through a Fender Blues Jnr amp with an added touch of JHS Morning Glory(or a Keeley Super Phat). Directly after I plugged in this FMT HH and it matched the sound and actually it sounded rounder and warmer. Couldn't believe it!
Plus it didn't cause a double hernia in the process which is a bonus at my age.
But the added features on this instrument...the abalone dots, the superb frets and binding. The neck is perfect, flatter radius than usual Fenders but really nice for smaller hands and I thought, because of the lacquer, that it would get sticky in the warmer days BUT it never has up to now..whereas my LP Custom neck attracts like Velcro to my hands.
I overlooked the minor issues however tricky because the price is amazingly good for an Indonesian instrument (possibly Cort ?).
But i'm hoping the price doesn't escalate after several reviews like mine..LOL.

Wow, this thing rocks!
The set neck and Seymour Duncan pups make this guitar unlike any Tele that I’ve played.
The humbuckers are splittable into single coils and really lighten up the sound. The build quality is incredible for what you are paying for a guitar in 2022, the neck is a bit on the slim side but the frets are really well done.
Tele purists might balk at the non standard set neck and all but the sustain and woody sound you can get from this axe is out of this world good. I highly recommend trying this out, beautiful guitar!

I read all of the raving reviews and thought I'd give this a try. The flame maple top is nice but the quality was overlooked. There is glue from the nut on the fretboard, the nut was cut very poorly as well. the back of the guitar was covered in a sand like substance that scratched the finish when wiped with a microfiber cloth. I wish I had gone with the similarly priced Charvel.

I actually got this guitar used, and I love it. I would 100% buy it for full price if you can't find it on sale or used. I did try out a squire Strat prior to this and it's not even comparable to how much better this guitar is. It's technically my first guitar, and I have to say it's been awesome for learning. It has a ton of functionality. I'm 5'4 on a good day, small ish hands and it's super comfortable to play. I gave it a 4/5 for features purely because it doesn't have a tremolo, but I don't think you'd want one on this guitar anyway. It's super light and just beautiful. (I have the Black Cherry version). Has a neat tone, suits my personality.

I used to go in to [Long and McQuade Competitor] and play this guitar at least once a month. I wasn't doing so well financially, and as a result, I had to sadly see the day when someone else found this guitar and loved it as much as I did. Five years passed, and I had a new career and a hankering for more guitars. On a whim, I happened to look up this guitar and found out Fender still made them. I went in to L&M and asked if they could order me one, and I bought it there, sight unseen. I have to say, the build quality of this is FAR beyond what you would expect from an Indonesian tele. The pickups are fantastic, and the tone you get from the coil split is actually really great. What's best about this guitar though is the playability. It's as light as a feather! I could play this thing on stage for hours, no question. Also, it's completely beautiful. I love everything about this guitar. Only real negative to consider is that since it's M.I.I. , you won't find quite the same QA as something made in smaller runs. Worth it to get a setup done, but other than that, fantastic amazing stupendous guitar. One of my go to guitars.

I would say it took me 6 months to find the guitar that matches my personality. I absolutely love this guitar. The feel in my hands the sound that resinates.... the look.... as well as the matching headstock. The Seymour Duncan's...I could go on and on. All I can say is try it out if you can find it and you will fall in love with it...big thanks to Daryl in Calgary east

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
