Alesis knows drums. Our SR16 has dominated the drum machine market since 1990 and continues to be in demand today. The next-generation SR18 is loaded with cutting-edge drumsets, electronic drums, one-shot hits, and modern percussion sounds for any cutting-edge musicians performances and compositions.

From hip-hop to country and everything in between, SR18 nails it on the first take. SR18 has an effects engine with Alesis reverb, EQ, and compression so you can output recording or performance-ready sounds.

Alesis' exclusive Dynamic Articulation technology modifies sample sounds so they change as you play them. This results in sounds that respond accurately not only to dynamic changes, but also with the appropriate timbral and color changes you'd expect from their acoustic counterparts.

You can plug in an instrument, such as a guitar, and play along for setup simplicity. You can play in bass parts using the pads on SR18 or connect a MIDI keyboard for fast, musical low end.

SR18 can be powered by AC or batteries, so whenever or wherever you need to lay down a groove, youre ready to roll. Its time for you to step up to the next Alesis drum machine.

Adding two foot pedals; one for start and stop and the other to add fills makes this the best drum machine, accompaniment electronic drummer out there. The drum sounds are extremely good. I have the Alesis DM 10 and wow to the sounds. Midi works perfectly to the kit and now has expanded drum sounds. It just as easily midi'd to the Alesis Nitro Mesh kit. Really good buy if you are a guitar player and want to write or practice with a great sounding Machine. highly recommend.

Works as advertised. I'm enjoying playing with it but as warned it is a learning curve. But most all new electronics are.
Worth the money IMO

Worked great, plenty of rhythms, easy to use. But machine would not power on 6 months out of warranty> RAM Failed. To fix would be almost as much as a new machine.

Has lots of great sounds but the pads are crappy. It also does not have a very intuitive UI. Lots of cool samples though and it does have lots of functionality if you have the patience for that. I would recommend getting something else.

I'm not sure you could do much better for a hardware drum machine. First impressions are disappointing of course, with the pre-programmed beats and sounds being severely out of date, like the "hip-hop" sounds, "yeah" and "ugh" voices that pre-date Salt 'n Peppa, and some of the "techno" hits that are outright embarrassing. However, delve into the flexible parameters of the sampled sounds and you can create VERY good drum kits, and with up to 100 steps per beat you can program very realistic flams, rolls, off-beat hits, and humanize to your heart's content. The SR-18 makes the old SR-16 look like a child's toy. I don't consider the bass sounds to have any real value aside from supporting writing creativity, but using the MIDI option with a good sound generator expands this function considerably. The MIDI clock out is a more useful tool, when used with a synth arpeggiator for example. Most people will be using computer DAWs at this point though, and the SR-18 sounds are available as a download, but if you are into peripheral hardware this is a great piece of kit, and personally I like dedicated "instruments" vs. clicking a mouse. Perhaps it's greatest use is still as a basic beat machine supporting, for example, a live piano bar artist.

Excellent product, really allows mini production in one module - drums and bass include and you can plug in your guitar and jam along!

Outstanding selection of drum and percussion sounds. Easy to get started straight out of the box. I was looking for a standalone unit that can be used to back guitar when practicing, as well as to plug in to the home studio for recording. Perfect for both. On the downside, the pads are not very sensitive. You have to adjust the setting to soft, and even then you have to pound the pad to have any volume sensitivity. Better off running midi and using a touch sensitive keyboard. Same goes for the bass sounds. Use midi and it's much easier to lay down backing tracks, and gives you a wider range as well (the pads give you less than an octave). Once you get into it, this thing has all the sounds I'll need, and a pretty sweet fun factor.

I spent several days online researching drum machines, seeing that Alesis has been around since the 90's and decided on the SR-18. One of the coolest toys I have ever owned. Countless hours of fun. Great sounds with so many possibilities. I stocked up on batteries so I can take it anywhere. At under $300, you cannot go wrong. Outstanding! Thank you, James and L&M.

What a blast learning how to drum away and play simultaneously with this Drum Machine from Alesis. Can't go wrong with the brand name for its great quality and workmanship when it comes to drum machines.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
