A gentle triangle strike sets the mood in this tranquil work, followed by a simple pastoral melody with peaceful woodwind harmonies. These themes progress towards a rich climax, then recede back to the sentimental origins. This is a great opportunity for young bands to develop dexterity with legato styles, phrasing, wide dynamic ranges, tone quality, and flexibility while stretching their artistry. There are ample opportunities for the ensemble to create music and a lasting impression.

Program Note:
This composition Echoes of Memories is dedicated to the music teacher at Aizuwakamatsu Kakujo Elementary School upon his transfer to another school. With many years spent together and so many memories, the composition depicts the irrepressible sadness of the students and the aching heart of the teacher as they parted. As reflected in the title, Hokoyama intended to depict feelings of melancholy while images of memories "echoed" forever in each child's heart, especially at a time when children learn to absorb so many feelings. This is a precious musical experience where each performing ensemble can offer a unique musical interpretation.
