The classic Hummingbird style acoustic became one of the first acoustic guitars to become a recognized rock and roll icon thanks to Keith Richards, who used a Hummingbird on many Rolling Stones albums in the early 70s including Exile on Main Street and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock who need an acoustic with fast action and great tone.

The Hummingbird features a Solid Spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breath and improve with age the more its played. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body is made from solid mahogany and the bridge is made from carved rosewood, a perfect match for the Solid Spruce top. There is a lot of stress put on a guitar between the nut and bridge and rosewood has proven to be both a long lasting and perfect compliment to a Solid Spruce top. The classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across the room.

I just bought the 2017 standard. The sound is absolutely wonderful - lots of character and fairly deep and rich lows, mids that come through and highs that sing. I think the action could be adjusted as my fingers get sore after just 40 minutes or so. Like many, the pick guard is starting to peel, which helped bring the already lowered price (it was on sale) down to 2999 Canadian. I myself would not have bought it at full price, but felt it was worth the 3 grand.

I have had nothing but trouble from my hummingbird. I bought mine brand new in 2011 and shortly after that I had to get it replaced due to horrible clear coat lifting around all of the tuning pegs. L&M treated me great and replaced the guitar no questions asked and said it could have had something to do with a new Eco-friendly clearcoat Gibson is using. Hummingbird #2 is nothing but problems all the way from needing a total fret dressing job, action/set up adjustments if I sneeze around it, finish and clear coat lifting around tuning pegs yet again (which I guess is the new normal so I am reluctantly choosing to live with it) and now the inner braces are lifting/glue is separating inside the guitar causing the most terrible buzz you could imagine. The guitar is 5 years old and the amount of problems I've had with it are horrifying. Is it a lemon? I don't know, keep in mind this is the second one they gave me and the first one was off to a pretty bad start as well. I keep my guitar in case, humidified so there is just no excuse for this crap. Obviously a complete lack of quality control. I have a Epiphone Jumbo that's been left out in the rain and tossed around more than I care to admit and I haven't had a single issue with it other than it sounds like a $500 guitar. But does my hummingbird sound like a $3500 guitar when it's buzzing away, finis/clearcoat lifting off the wood and being repaired half its life? No. Should have bought anything but a Gibson. What a disaster. Nice pick guard though........ Not that any of this is L&M's fault, they've always treated me very well.

This guitar obviously looks amazing, sound really loud and beautiful, feels great, and its Gibson. It just costs so much for it though. Dont really need a guitar that costs a fortune. Overall this is a full quality guitar that sounds and looks amazing.

I have been hunting for the right acoustic for over a year now. I have recently fallen back in love with Gibson guitars. I always knew I wanted a Gibson Acoustic because I wanted that classic acoustic sound recorded on so many classic records. I finally just found my Hummingbird after trying many different acoustic guitars. There is something so special about the mahogany sides and back that most high end acoustics don't go with. (i.e.: rosewood or maple) Try a couple of them. You will eventually find the one that's perfect for you. Use the L.R. Baggs pickup and mic it with a AKG 414 XLS for acoustic bliss!

I think the guitar I great except that the finish is cracking and the guitar is only 4 years old. It is with my 59 Gibson J45 and my 78 Hohner in the same room and these guitars the finish is no problem, but the Hummingbird is cracking. Very disappointed that there is no Gibson warranty for this as the salesman said it is due to the humidity in the room. All my guitars when not in use have humidifiers in them. Now I have to purchase another humidifier for the room. So this is why I have given a lower score for quality.

Smooth rich tone and comfortable action. Great mid range to accompany a singer. Plus, it looks sensational. Why does the website refer (twice) to Epiphone?

In 1973 I bought a Ibanez Concorde copy of the Hummingbird. It has steered me well. Always dreamed of owning the Gibson and my dream came true. Plays like a dream, makes an old hacker like me sound good, inspired me to really get back at the guitar and make this baby ring. It is comfortable, smooth, serviceable, excellent tone and most of all the chicks dig it. :)

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
