Shred in ergonomic comfort and style with the Jackson X Series Dinky(TM) Arch Top DKAF8 MS. A high-performance evolution of the electric guitar, this 8-string multi-scale model unlocks the possibilities of an instrument by accommodating two scale lengths on one fingerboard, thus enhancing overall playing comfort while improving tension and intonation.

The DKAF8 MS features a 26"-28" multi-scale length, mahogany body with an arched top, one-piece bolt-on maple neck with graphite reinforcement and scarf joint, 12"-16" compound radius laurel fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets and offset dot inlays, Jackson die-cast tuners and 4x4 AT-1 headstock.

Dual Jackson uncovered 8-string blade humbucking pickups power this metal beast and can be shaped by a three-way toggle switch and single volume and tone controls. To help improve intonation, the guitar has been equipped with Jackson designed individual bridge saddles, staggered to accommodate for the two scale lengths.

This is my third 8 string from L&M. Of this Jackson, my ESP H208 and Ibanez Iron Label, this is the most solid overall instrument by a fair margin. ESP had a short scale length at 26.5" which wasn't ideal. Blocky neck joint. I didn't know enough about 8 strings, and it was just not a well designed instrument imo. Ibanez had problematic saddles, they didn't have the range to reach proper intonation, so the bottom string and two top strings were slightly out. Also they were adjusted with an allen key, which was super annoying. This thing had no problems during my setup. Raised the strings a bit, plenty of range on the saddles that adjusted with a standard philips, now it's playing GREAT. The neck feels better to me than the ibanez. It feels like there is a touch more space between strings which is preferable to me. The multi-scale takes absolutely no time to adjust to. Pickups sound better to me than the EMG 808s. Maybe the passive ones here are just more my speed. The whole package is very nice. Little bit of glue visible on the nut, and some rough finish on the fretboard behind the nut. No biggie. One thing I will say of L&M is that their setup for extended range guitars, baritones, or alternate tuning leaves a lot to be desired. This had so much fret buzz out of the box, I wonder if anyone even tried to play it. And if they did, how they could have found that acceptable. Just like the Ibanez, it required me to do my own setup to have it be playable. Myself and a friend who plays 7 string / baritone have had this experience several times in different provinces. Never with a 6 string in standard, but with open tunings, 7 string, baritone, 8 strings, the setup game at L&M appears to be practically nonexistent in some locations. Take it to someone else, or spend the time and effort doing it yourself! Not the biggest deal if you can do it. But might make your 8 string experience pretty rough when you're new to extended range and don't know what's up. Overall, L&M has been good to deal with. Very happy with this instrument at the end of day.

This is my first guitar with more than 6 strings. It is also my first multi scale guitar. I thought it would be hard to get used to, but I barely notice the multi scale. It is actually really nice to have, the lower strings do not feel sloppy or loose like typically happens when down tuning. And with its standard tuning, F#-B-E-A-D-G-B-E, I don't really need to down tune. The guitar is surprisingly light and comfortable to hold and play. The neck is nice and thin, so even though it is a bit wider, it still feels comfortable to play in my hands. I have slightly larger hands, and am used to playing a bass guitar too. So the feel of the extra strings and making chords is not that much different for me. The pickups are good versatility, neck for warmer clean tones sounds great. I play all kinds of music from classical guitar to high gain metal. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get into extended range guitars. And I would recommend the multi scale over a guitar with the standard same scale length for all strings too. My only regret is not starting off with this guitar, but then again, it didn't exist 35 years ago when i started off.

I got this guitar about a year and a half ago. it plaid amazing after a set up, but there were a lot of problems. first as soon as i got it the pickups were too micro-phonic and had to be bathed in wax. after about 8 months of owning it the nut totally broke into pieces. and the guitar was not longer usable. Fender did not want to send Long and McQuade the part so i can get my guitar fixed so i just have a paper weight now.

Response from Long & McQuade

Hi Brandon, sorry to hear that. If you need the nut replaced we suggest contacting your local store. If the part is unavailable a custom nut could possibly be made for you. We recommend bringing the guitar to your local Long & McQuade and explaining what happened. You can view all of our locations here: www.long-mcquade.com/locations

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
