One of the worst investments I ever made. I compared these monitors to a pair that I bought at the Dollar Store for $3.50. The sound quality between the two were negligible at best, and yes, I did have them all the way in my ears. They SHURE dropped the ball with this product.

The pair of Shure SE215 that I bought had bad connections right out of the box. Not a great start. Long & McQuade is going to replace them, no questions asked. They said, it sounds like I got a lemon.
If they were working properly, I'm sure the value of the product would be through the roof.
There is just no way that I could turn the volume up all the way without destroying my ears with too much volume. So that's great because you shouldn't have to worry about not having enough output.
Whilst dealing with the breakup from the bad connections, I found them a little TOO bassy for my taste. In my opinion, the mids were kind of hidden in the mix and I found I had to turn up the volume a little higher than I wanted to to balance out the highs. So I didn't really find a volume level where I enjoyed a good balance... and as you know, if you're gigging, you may need to turn your volume up or turn your volume down depending on the gig or even the song so that change in the spectrum isn't great.
If you're a bass player or a drummer that's heavy on the kick and new to the IEM market, these might be a good first kick at the can for you.
Lots of power for the price.

Once you get the right fit, these sound great… until they stop working. I play 6 string bass, and even with low A they sounded great. Also good sound isolation. HOWEVER I’ve gone through 2 pairs of these.
Only using one hour a week but 9 month maximum usage. One ear would just die suddenly with no warning.
My first pair died, and the L&M wanted to fix them. After a month of nothing they said they sent them off to be fixed. After another month, they finally gave me another pair. That in itself was bad service! Usually a store gives you another pair and deals without the company selves. And that is small independent stores, not mega stores.
Now the second set is dead, and I am done with these. I don’t know if I have to spend a few hundred more dollars or what. I’ve had the same pair of over-ear Bose for 10 years, so there’s no excuse for this. When they work I love them. But I can’t have something just die and then have to do a whole performance with only one ear, not cool!

Get these if you're new to in ear monitors. I've used these for almost a year, both for daily listening on my commutes and for shows as a drummer. They sound better than average, are comfortable, isolate noise, and despite hearing differing reviews, they've lasted a while. Sometimes the connections accumulate corrosion, so I disconnect the cable and wipe it off with my finger when I hear crackling and that usually solves the problem. I've replaced the cable after about 600 hours because the left started to crackle more. You can spend whatever you want on in ear monitors, but you will experience ear fatigue after an hour of listening. That is my complaint with these, which would be the same with any IEM that doesn't have pressure modules. For that reason, I'd say get these to get into IEMs, and don't spend any more money unless you're getting custom IEMs.

First off, as another reviewer said, people who are saying they sound worse than dollar store buds are not fitting them correctly! THESE ARE NOT EAR BUDS… THEY’RE IN-EAR MONITORS!! You don’t put them ON your ears loosely… they fit INSIDE your ear canal!! They’re designed to seal out loud noise on a stage, so you have to fit them snugly in your ear with your mouth open, which can take a while… some people hate this… if you’re one of them, then DON’T BUY IN-EAR MONITORS!! They sound great for monitors, and better than most iem’s for listening. My only problem is that they have a few weak points. I’ve had two SONY buds break at the very thin attachment point for the tips that fit in your ear. They can also loosen up at the attachment point for the cable and begin cutting out. Other than that, they work and sound great if you know how to use them! I’ve gone on to multi-driver balanced armature IEMs, which you can get around the same price and are sturdier and more detailed.

All the poor reviews below are from people who don't understand a very important requirement of IN-ear monitors that is very different from earbuds: they must be sealed in your ears! If these are falling out, or lack bass, it means you're either wearing them wrong or you need to use different tips. For those with "different" ear canal shape like me, you may need to use Comply memory foam tips - scrunch them up like earplugs, insert them, wait for them to expand. It takes me 15sec to put these in properly, they don't just slap in like earbuds.
Assuming you have the fit sorted out, these are a no brainer and perfect for musicians and vocalists who need on-stage monitors. They're great for general listening too, just know that you may have to fuss with them a lot more than a typical earbud.

These ear buds came highly recommended. I am very disappointed in the sound and fitment. It comes with all sorts of adapters to fit in your ears, but sadly none fit properly and they keep popping out. Very tinny sound quality. I recommend buying something from a dollar store rather than spend $129 on these.

I bought these on the advice of a store advisor and based on the Shure name. These things sounded like pure brittle, tinny, with absolutely no bottom end. Very harsh sounding. They also would not stay in my ear no matter earpieces I used.
Sadly, they can't be returned, of course, so my cheap MP3 player earbuds (and/or my diminutive dollar store headset-both of which sound superior) will suffice until I have the assurance that I can buy something affordable that works...

I bought these as in ear monitors rather than earbuds. I use them while playing live and as the drummer I can hear the band rather than just me. The sound is very insulated considering you have the proper fit for your ears. After trying a few tips I found that my right ear uses a different size than my left ear. I can hear everyone in the band perfectly clear which makes for a better performance in my opinion. As earbuds plugged into my phone I find them weak in the bottom end and the mids sound a little too pronounced.
I have owned these for 5 plus years and they have taken a beating and they still perform great. For the price I think these are worth it depending on your application. Great for in ear monitors, not so good for earbuds.
I highly recommend for in ear monitors.

I took the time to test each pair of sleeves included in the package to determine the proper fit and sound for me. I tested the earbuds with a few full spectrum WAV files accompanying my drums. I found the foam sleeves to provide much greater isolation and low end output than their silicone counterparts. However I found the high end lacking definition and clarity. The high frequencies sounded rolled off. I was missing crucial details that I would normally hear through all my other headphones.
The ear pieces were a snug fit but I found the part of the wire that you bend over your ear to not properly bend over the ear. Its one job. This caused it to move around as I moved my head in any direction which was especially frustrating as a drummer.
I would not recommend this product to any musician looking for a rich, detailed sound that will stay in your ears during performances or other sessions.

Anyone saying they don't sound good obviously didn't take the time to either fit them right, or get the right set of tips setup for their ears.
The foam tips give a more flat, studio monitor type sound, with noticeably less bass, which is nice when you want to pull apart the sound and hear everything clearly.
The rubber tips increase the bass dramatically and sound great with the iPhone or whatever you prefer to listen to music on.
They are loud, clear and a great quality build, putting them in and out definitely takes some getting used to, but it's well worth it.

I've owned these for over 5 years now and they are great. When they do die I will replace them with the same for SHURE. The only complaint I would say that I have with them is that the foam for the ear buds doesn't last very long. Not that it wears out rather the seal it makes in the ear canal lessens after time. They are replaceable but the replacements aren't cheap and can't be bought singly. Otherwise they are fantastic!!! Highly recommended.

I really do like the chords, including the jack which is a 90 degree angle and feels very solid.
The sound cuts everything around you, and acts well as earplugs. You can listen to your own music in a noisy restaurant playing its own music.
The bass sounds good, and its nice to have some earphones that plays clearly at the loudest volumes.
Hopefully these will last 5 years.

At first, I really didn't want another in-ear but the positive online reviews steered me to the SE215's. Putting them in was something to get used to and I found the sound lacked something. Mostly bass.
It took me a while to find the ear tip that worked best. I was blown away at the full sound and in some cases felt the band was live!!
I use the iPhone with the Vox music app. The parametric eq honed the sound to exactly how I loved to hear my metal. I've done the Grado thing, even Sennheisers and now I only wish I bought the higher level Shure in-ears at the start.

For those people who are saying they sound terrible - sound is subjective, but comparing these to much more expensive studio headphones and monitors they are very accurate. They don't colour the sound excessively and provide a fairly accurate reproduction of sound (which is why they're called Monitors). Not as much bass as you might like/want, but very clear with excellent sound rejection. Only complaint is the cable is a bit shorter than I'd like (I wear them while drumming) but this can be swapped out. For the price-point these are excellent!

I learned a lesson, you cannot try these before buying them and you also cannot return them. I used them for 10 seconds and realized how poor the sound quality is on these. I guess if you have nothing to compare these to, you might not know better. These are 1/4 the sound quality of the products I normally use. I thought they would make a good backup pair on stage, but I will never use them after hearing the low quality they put out.

The absolute truth, from my ears. I bought a set of these in ear monitors because the sales clerk at my local Long & McQuade recommended them. In my humble opinion, the sound quality simply sucks. I am comparing the tonal quality to a pair of ear buds that I got with a 1GB Sans Disc MP3 player I picked up from my local pharmacy for $19.00. I have tried dozens of different ear buds. The Sans Disc rock. The Shure's just sound thin & lack any bass punch in comparison.

I've been using these for about 8 months now as in ear monitors as well as casual use. Great for both. Nice wide stereo image. Deep bass and prevalent highs and mids. I'm a drummer and the isolation is on point. Naturally, I can hear my drumming acoustically through the isolation but the in ear mix doesn't have to be so loud as to hurt my ears. I actually bought a second set just to separate uses. One for in ears and one for casual listening. I've even mixed with these on and its great to pan mixes with them.

The are very nice sounding iems fr the price but there is a common problem with the cables http://www.head-fi.org/t/556838/shure-se215-iem-issues-cutting-out-audio. I found these to be quite comfortable to wear and it comes with a large variety of tips as well as a nice carrying case. I would give these a much higher review but one of the ears is very quite compared to the other and sometimes cant even be heard. I haven't had these very long but this is my second pair to have this happen.

I've tried these headphones and I have to say, these are possibly the best in its price range. If you were to compare these to the Klipsch S4, I would definitely say these are better because of overall build quality, features and sound quality.
These come with three foam tips (S,M,L) and three silicone tips. It features a detachable cable and carrying case. The built quality is near indestructible. The cord is extremely thick and the headphones are not made of some cheap plastic.
The sound quality will appeal to the mass market because of its bass. The bass is very deep and has great extension. The mids are well refined and represented well. Highs are great but seemed slightly rolled off (or laid back), but that is not much an issue. The sound quality is good and the signature is very fun, but not recommended for analytically listening. If you wanted a balanced sound, I would recommend the Shure SRH440. Soundstage is pretty good considering the price range. My overall experience of these headphones have been great and I would definitely recommend these to audiophiles and bassheads alike!

PROS: great sound, bass is not overwhelming, voices seem live, cord feels near indestructible.
CONS: super long cord, a little difficult to get used to fitting (but once you get the hang its awesome).

Best you will find for the money. It comes with enough different sizes of sound isolating tips so fit is almost guaranteed. I also really like the over the ear style.
I am a drummer, and I use them playing live. The isolation is good enough that I have to have my drums in my monitor mix so I can hear them properly.

I bought these a few weeks ago for my iPhone as the ones that came with it just don't cut it. They are very comfortable to wear and the cord doesn't seem to get in the way like other I've tried. The cord is also quite thick which I translate into quality. It is also a bit longer which may bother some people but I think it's great. They are very good at sound isolation, so much so that I have used them as ear plugs to cut outside noise when trying to sleep. The sound quality is good but not great. The only down side I have experienced so far would be that they do not go easily into or out of your ears which makes it a bit annoying when you have to take them out to taslk to someone briefly and then want to put them back in. I just ignore more people than I used to in order to try and avoid taking them out.
