The California Tweed 6V6 4:FORTY is Mesa Boogie's new Single Channel, mid-power, "old school" offering aimed at all sounds Americana. Equipped with all the essential features you do need, none of the complexity you don't and bona fide delicious 6V6 Tone in every viable wattage with an addictive, inspiring feel guaranteed to keep your hands on the strings, your ears wide open and your eye on the prize.

In the twilight of the 1960s, San Francisco Bay Area amp repairman to the Stars, Randall Smith, was inspired to start building his own amplifiers after coming to a deep appreciation for the '50s Tweed circuits Leo Fender created. He loved their organic sounding voice, powerful controls and the way they smoothly transitioned from clean to clip and back again. So standing on the shoulders of a giant, Smith's (and the world's) first venture into a Boutique guitar amplifier saw the foundation built atop that wonderful, timeless sounding preamp. Five Decades later Mesa returns to pay homage, yet also bring forward an exciting new realm of Tweed-based performance and authentic 6V6 character. The new California Tweed(TM)... harken back, bounce on forward, while never sacrificing one drop of golden California tone.

I absolutely love the sounds I have been getting out of this amp (I have it paired with the 2x12 with BB40 speakers). Cleans with the amazing reverb blow my mind, inspire me and keep me coming back for more. Using the two different inputs, gain, eq, presence and multi-watt allows me to dial in a wide range of edge of break-up to musical low gain tones. That flexibility and the BB40 speakers has kept me from hearing any of the low end drop out I was afraid of. Yes it is a single channel amp, no it isn't hand wired (ok well the POTS are), and IMHO there may be other amps that offer better value for the money. But my ears give it an overall 5/5 for delivering exactly what I hoped it would! If I could I'd pick up the 2:20 1x10 version as my grab and go amp.

I am so excited about this well built, high quality Mesa Amplifier. From a structural standpoint, its built of the highest quality material. Even the top four corners are high quality leather covered. From the excellent Spring Reverb, to the sound that comes from the Twin 12 inch Mesa Cab, its a top of line Amp. I am so thrilled with this Amp Head. Couldn't be a happier Camper!

I like the sound of the Multi-Soak in my Mesa TC-100. The TC-100 is fan-cooled. Attenuating the power makes the tubes burn hotter. So I run it at 100 watts to avoid premature wear.. Loud but sounds great when I aim the speaker cab at my legs. Too much if aimed at my ears. I thought the lower-wattage alternative with the California Tweed, four 6V6 power tubes in 5 different modes 40w, 30w, 20w, 10w, 2w would do the trick. Tubes run cool enough so that cooling is convection. Thought the amp was brilliantly designed. I have waited decades for an amp that I thought could do this well. I have digital versions of power scaling which sound decent (Fender Tone Master Deluxe) but a choice of 5 safe tube power options in one amp apparently still eludes me. Thought I could practice at bedroom volumes with the right over-driven sound. But no! This amp will not be a big seller. I wished it had everything a great amp should have. Design flaw or faulty lemon. Don't know. Treble control sucks sound. Could not get a good tone out of it. I have a Fender Super Sonic Twin 100/25 watts. Works Great. 85 pounds though. Wanted a lighter version. Should have just bought a Fender Super Sonic 22 head for the 1 x 12 Mesa cab, which works great. Anyway, returned the California Tween Head and ordered a Fender Super Sonic 22 head (black). Live and learn.

I like the sound of the Multi-Soak in my Mesa TC-100 but the tubes burn out too fast attenuating the power. That's why the TC-100 is fan-cooled. So I run it at 100 watts. I am not a fan of the cream/white color so I ordered the standard finish in Black Taurus. I have to buy the black dials separately. But the amp is brilliantly designed. I have waited decades for an amp like this. I have digital versions of power scaling but never a choice of 5 safe tube power options in one amp. Finally I can practice at bedroom volumes with the right over-driven sound. Finally 6V6 tube options too. Don't know if this amp will be a big seller but it's got everything a great amp should have.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
