Born in Corona, California, the American Performer Stratocaster HSS delivers the exceptional tone and feel you expect from an authentic Fender - with new enhancements, like the DoubleTap(TM) humbucking pickup, that make even more inspiring to play. The American Performer Stratocaster HSS includes the Yosemite(TM) single-coil pickups - designed for rich, expressive tones - and a DoubleTap humbucking bridge pickup. This unique, patent-applied-for design combines humbucking and single-coil voices, while eliminating volume loss in single-coil mode. The single coils feature flat-staggered pole pieces to increase output and shellac potting that lets the single-coils breathe while controlling feedback. Combined, Yosemite and DoubleTap pickups produce dynamic sounds ideal for any musical situation.

The American Performer Stratocaster HSS also features Greasebucket(TM) tone circuitry, along with a push-pull tone control to activate the DoubleTap humbucking pickup. The "Modern C"- shaped neck sports a 9.5"-radius fingerboard that's comfortable for almost any playing style, along with 22 jumbo frets for effortless and accurate bending.

Sweet sounds & The humbucker works great! Not that traditional Strat but absolutely be a perfect definition of what the tones are!

I have it in the black and got mine when it was a bit less expensive maybe two yrs back. I suppose one could say the black version with white p'ups is a Gilmour look-a-like which is a shame because i'm sadly not a fan of Gilmour BUT, that being aside i'll say this, this neck is perfectly shaped for all hand profiles.
For this main reason I got it. It's extremely /comfortably (not numb) smooth, neck wise, and the frets are "'jumbo"' and nicely put in place.
The optional addition of the humbucker extends the tonal range from your usua/typical Fender Stratocaster vibrantly nasal sounding tone to a warmer, richer,HB sound.
I cant fault the combination in any way and I really think, like i've posted on many Fende Performer reviews, that this Performer Series is the most versatile and obtainable series that Fender has...although the price of items from this series are rapidly increasing every few months .

The tones of this guitar are clean and sweet. The humbucker sounds great. However, so far, after a few weeks in, I don't feel that the push-pull of the HB does much.
I've been very pleasantly surprised how well this beast stays in tune. It's got a nice weight to it (I like a little heavy) and is very comfortable to play due to the usual strat body cutouts and the rounded fretboard.
I absolutely love the big vintage headstock. The colour scheme of surf green, off-white pickguard, and the maple fretboard gives off such a positive retro vibe to me. The satin of the body and neck is outstanding.
This is an awesome guitar in so many ways. It's a very musical guitar with a lot of versatility, but don't get it if you want to play heavy.

I have had this Strat for 2 weeks now. It is a beautiful guitar. The neck is super smooth and with the humbuckers, Yosemite pickups and greasebucket you are able to hit a wide range of sounds that a traditional setup on a Strat can't quite get. It came perfectly set up out of the box (action is a solid 8/10, no buzzing) The whammy bar is super sensitive which I personally like. You can reef on it and the guitar will be in tune for quite some time. I tried a few Mexican models and they sounded nice but I noticed that the USA made Strats are more Precise in the finishing's and overall craftsmanship like this one. These pickups have slight feedback which is the only negative. Thankfully If I don't like the sound of them aftr a while it is an easy and affordable swap for different pickups. I picked this one because I always loved David Gilmour's all black Strat and it looks similar and I love satin maple fret boards.

Great ovaerall guitar with the modern necks profiles, great all the way up the fretboard, pic-ups are very usable throughout the selector swtch, I've had two previously and had good fortune with these as a over all good guitar with no upgrades required, only con for me was the headstock shape, no my fav, but its not a deal breaker for the rest of the pluses

First of all, please not, I'm NOT really a Fender fan BUT I was amazed at the quality of these' Performer 'models! Both the Teles & Strats are beyond belief whether maple of rosewood necks! Honestly, I think they are the most comfortable and versatile range that Fender have presented for YEARS since the USA Special series but then i'm biased. You won't have to spend larger amounts of cash to get the same quality you'd receive from this "Performer"series. The push/pull idea is brilliant! The tonal spectrum is ENDLESS. I'm mostly a jazz player and one can obtain a real mellow tone if desired from the pickup mix here if you tweak the controls enough. Both rosewood & maple sound great although I have a slight leaning towards the rosewood since it's mellower. The vibrato arm is sensitive and doesn't go out of tune as much as on other more expensive models. IF it DOES go out of tune or you have issues then please use a tiny amount of 'Big Bends Nut Sauce' and you find you can dive in Hendrix fashion without any problems ever again. I actually purchased more than one 'Performer' guitars since I don't think i'll find a series that fits my hands like this one. Thank you Andy Elliot and all those fine people at Owen Sound L&M.

I bought this particular model and it's an exceptional guitar. The neck feels better than any other strat I've ever touched and is likely do to the satin finish body and neck along. The edges of the fret board are rolled which feels incredible. Though to be fair you put this neck on any other fender body and it will be great. Thus the 4/5 for value. It's overpriced in my opinion but I would happily replace it with another if I had to.

Love the satin neck. The fret work is great. Very smooth fret ends and rolled edges. I love the 70s jumbo headstock. Unmistakable Fender. Pick ups sound great through my Katana 100. Crisp and lively. Tapped humbucker is nice to get the single coil bridge pick up sound. The body finish was perfect. I own the surf green. The matt finish feels nice to the touch. Overall the guitar feels solid and good in the hands. It's a pleasure play. Very versatile, able to play any genre. I think its fantastic value for money. Not the cheapest guitar on the wall but worth it. No hesitation recommending this guitar.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
