The American Performer Stratocaster includes the Yosemite(TM) single-coil pickups, designed for rich, expressive tones. With flat-staggered pole pieces to increase output and a shellac coating that lets the coil breathe while controlling feedback, Yosemite pickups produce dynamic sounds ideal for any musical situation.

The American Performer Stratocaster also features Greasebucket(TM) tone circuitry and a push-pull tone control which adds the neck pickup in any switch position, unlocking new, musically useful tones. The "Modern C"-shaped neck sports a 9.5"-radius fingerboard that's comfortable for almost any playing style, along with 22 jumbo frets for effortless and accurate bending.

I picked one up very lightly used at my local L&M, and have been converting it into a “Rosie the Alligator” Garcia guitar since. Neck is fantastic. Nut needs to be changed; ordered a poodle vintage style case for it. Gigbag is CHEAP. $26,000 for the Custom Shop MacNutt Alligator or DIY for under $2000. Simple answer…

It took a while, but I chose this guitar over the Pro II Strat because of the jumbo frets and Yosemite pickups. I also liked the neck better when comparing them. Arctic White was the choice for me.

I sold two guitars to help fund this purchase; there was no need having two guitars hanging around gathering dust. I must admit, after playing this one a few times now, it ticks most of the boxes, but I took a half point off value for the synthetic nut and gig bag. I love the Yosemite pickups (IMO, an improvement over the Fat 50's); they provide a good blend of traditional and modern sounds. I also love that I can blend in the neck pickup to positions 1 and 2 when I feel like it for more tonal options. The jumbo frets make bending a breeze.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase. James at the Markham store was excellent. I mainly play blues/rock and this does it very well! It plays just as good as my American Professional II. The only reason I gave 4 for features, is because Fender really phoned it in with the soft case. Otherwise, I have no complaints!

IMO, the ''Performer'' Series takes beating.
Every model ticks all the boxes for me.
VERY comfortable neck GREAT for smaller shaped hands ,the Jumbo frets make bending strings so easy, (I do realize they're not to everyones taste )
The array of tones one can get is unbelievable since the push/pull feature incorporated will provide Blues and even , yes, Jazz tones.
They stay in tune also especially with the use of some 'Big Bends Nut Sauce' in the nut grooves. The Trem system works well.

Great guitar the Yosemite pups were a bit to dial in now I'm a fan they def will cut through the mix . Neck is a tad big but comfy ..tuning is amazing .the service in woodstock is amazing Bill and the gang go the extra mile on everything .I never would have been able to pay for this guitar if it wasn't for the trust I was givin and the long and mcquades look on how enthusiasts should all ways be able to have what they desire. WOULD I RECOMEND THIS GUITAR 100% .....it's a real nice piece to anyone's arsenal.

..about the overall quality of the whole "'Performer"' series by Fender, both their Telecasters AND Stratocasters. I haven't really been impressed by Fender over the yrs since I got my Strat in March 1974. Had loads of issues with it. So I avoided Fender like the plague but a couple of yrs back I went into my closest store at Owen Sound (great helpful folk there) and tried a 'Fender USA Special'. REALLY loved it mainly because of the neck feel, which felt nice if you have smaller hands. I purchased it and looked for another but realized the series had been discontinued...The NEXT series that had taken over the American Special slot were the "'PERFORMER" series. Very similar other than the Texas Special p'ups had been replaced with Yosemite (just as great!) . Knocked out by the neck profile and SMOOTH feel. Sounds obtained are beyond cool and the push/pull split is superb! So I got another one also. I think you should get them BEFORE they discontinue the series. You won't such quality for the same price again. Thank you Andy Elliot and the other great folk at Owen Sound L&M.

Cant beat the value: all the tones from Hendrix and Clapton to SRV and The Edge are in this guitar. It's what a strat should sound like. And the quality is a cut above the Player series which I've also owned. Trust me, it's more than worth the extra money. Above this price point you'll see diminishing returns so I firmly believe this is the best bang for the buck. The pull pot to select the neck pickup in any configuration is also a nice bonus but even without that, it's an amazing guitar. Plus, if you order a red tortoiseshell pickguard off Amazon (for like $15) you get the same look as an American Ultra. Cant go wrong! And I even managed to find a rare used one for only $1200! What a steal.... even at full price it's more than worth it. Buy one!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
