The finish on the neck is like fly paper, I shaved it and sanded it and now it is good. I removed the neck and shaved an 1/8th inch off the heel which brought the fingerboard down closer to the body at the heel. I tilted the neck forward at the heel about 10 thou. Because the truss rod adjustment was so limited. (even a slack truss rod with a set of tens in tune, did not bow any relief into the neck) the shaving and the tilt remedied this. Because the finger board was so much closer to the body where it entered the guitar body, I could drop my pickups flush and lower the tune o matic which allowed the vibration tone to improve. dressed out the nut using a tuner to measure the pitch from Open to fretted at the first fret. Today the neck almost appears dead straight with reasonably low action a tiny bit of buzz if you slap it, I gently finger pick. havnt replaced a thing, I love it

This guitar is ideal for beginners, no matter what style of music they are playing. As of posting this review, I have owned mine for nearly 3 years and it has proven itself time and time again. I have taken this guitar to the studio numerous times and it has never disappointed me. I primarily play Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and this guitar has no problem being drop tuned, all you need is heavier strings. (BE SURE TO FILE THE NUT IF USING A 54 GAGE STRING OR LARGER, I LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY.) The stock pickups sound fine, very tight and responsive. If you buy this guitar and spend money buying and installing new pickups, you might as well not bother and buy a more premium Les Paul. The body is mahogany and it's quite heavy, even for a Les Paul. I have loaned this guitar to people who play $1300+ guitars and they always tell me how nicely the Special II plays and sounds. Excellent value for the money.

My guitar play nice, I Replace the pickups, didn't like the sound of the pickups. The pickups are loud And replaced with Wilkinson's Humbuckers and coil-tap. Replaced the tuners to Grover's. The guitar , I'm the second owner and by the first owner only played once. I did not buy it from L&M. ,but I did buy it from another guitar dealer. Mine plays great, no buzz. Action great. strings are 10s.

So it's my first one and I love playing it! I've had it two months play it every day. Cons It doesn't stay in tune. One of the strings rattles like crazy no matter what you do. It didn't do that when I first tried it. It looks cheap when you look at the pickups and wires. Pros price. Sound is decent for the price. I accidentally got the wrong guitar so I it's my own fault.

I own an Amer. Special Strat, Amer. Standard Tele, Les Paul Standard. Squire Strat, and this Epiphany Special II. I must say I was bowled over by the Epi! It sounds fantastic, plays like a dream and just feels great. What a deal! This Epiphone is an overlooked diamond in the rough. I actually play it more than my other guitars costing several times more. I love this Epi and recommend it for players of all stripes and levels.

This is a step above a starter kit guitar. If they could have made this any cheaper they could have. I've taken two of these apart and was not impressed either time with the quality or the sound and I've played a lot of good cheap guitars and can look beyond brand. the only 5 stars are from 11-15 year olds who played for a few weeks or months and it shows. The wiring is done poorly and may come undone at a moments notice so be ready with your wrench and other tools and be prepared for whatever part decides to fall off first. The parts are the cheapest you'll find in china on a site called echo bay. The guitar won't stay in tune to save it's life, the fret work is horrible and even plugging this guitar into your guitar gods amplifier and pedals won't save it, it'll still sound bad even if they play your favorite songs on it. you can blame the pickups, you can justify it doesn't sound good because it's not expensive enough but it's just a bad guitar. I've sanded down an SG special and it was like a jigsaw puzzle of different pieces of wood which is terrible for the sound. The amount of money you'll have to spend to make this guitar play the way the epiphones everyone is talking about you can practically buy 3 of these. Don't get these for a kid for christmas it'll ruin it, i'm saying this now because it's a month before the santa comes. For the 200 give or take you can get so many better guitars used. I would not recommend these to even my worst enemy.

I got one last year. after I set the thing up right it plays great. I had to lower the bridge on mine quite a bit, and I still want to swap out the tuners on it. I tightened the neck down too because it would tremolo if I pulled on a chord too hard. It does sound good, and looks great, especially since I swapped out all the plastic for chrome parts.

the blurb says "alnico V" magnets in the pick-ups. the sticker on the actual pick-up on the actual guitar says " ceramic 8"....I guess the blurb is wrong. however, the guitar is an excellent value. plays like a dream, sounds great. the tuners can be dodgy on these so check out more than one. I had one made in '06 in China. this one's '13 and made in Indonesia. like 2 different guitars. the new one's seems better all around.

I bought one of these several years ago in Fredericton while my band was on tour. It has been used for practice, recording and gigging without changing a single component except the strings. It's still a solid player, sounds as good as (and often better than) a much more expensive instrument, never goes out of tune even if I abuse it (and I do) and I'm not afraid to ruin the finish like I might be with a guitar that cost 10 times as much. That actually hasn't been a problem either - mine is pretty much bomb-proof. After a while, there are a few fairly simple and inexpensive upgrades that will improve the overall quality of the guitar: - replace the nut with a slab of bone or graphite. If you're hearing buzzing or drone-y sounds when you play open strings, that's the cheap plastic/corian nut talking. Mine chipped and broke on the outside of the low E groove early on and it didn't cost much to get a new bone nut cut and installed. - the tuners are not bad but they're cheap and can become loose and rattly/buzzy. Consider a good set of tight-fitting sealed tuners if you start hearing buzzing from the headstock. - the tip of my toggle switch broke off, probably at a gig. Consider a hardshell case if you're going to be taking it to punk shows at seedy dive bars. - the stock Epiphone pickups are perfectly fine and sound great through a Marshall or equivalent. Seymour Duncans and other aftermarket brands sound better. That's just how it is, and why all the $2500 guitars have them and the cheap ones don't. Bottom line, this is a solid beginner's guitar, or a rocksteady workhorse for a player on a budget. Absolutely worth the investment.

Excellent little guitar that I've been playing like crazy for about a year now, one thing I did even though Im new to the instrument is change out the pickups, once you do that, this guitar really sounds great, its a bit costly, but its definitely worth it, I would highly recommend this guitar to someone wanting an instrument

A very good guitar for beginners or to just casualy play. The input jack can have an issue with it not going back together properly. The tuner head can come very loose and cause bad vibration sounds as well. The bridge can slide off very easy as well. Other than that the guitar is solid and a good deal for your dollar

I have played strats. les pauls and other high end guitars years ago. I wanted to just start playing again but nothing serious so i picked this guitar up for just a bit of fun at a low cost. Wow was i surprised i pound the crap out of this guitar and it gives me so much back. It is easy to play and good sound for the money (wish it was around a few years back) highly recommend for anyone starting out. Not the best quality but the best value.

I'm not a very experienced player, but for a small investment, this guitar will tell you if playing an electric is right for you. Easy action, stays in tune quite well. It lacks individual pickup volume/tone controls, and the high end and sustain aren't what I've experienced on more expensive guitars. Also, the nut on my jack fell off as well, but 10 minutes later I had it fixed. This is not a guitar you will want to play forever, but for less than $200 dollars, it goes a long way to helping you find out what kind of player you want to become.

I have owned this guitar for five years, and have used nothing else since. And although I am now looking to upgrade, this is a great guitar. It is an exceptional entry-level guitar that will serve you well for years to come. Its tone can be rather limited at times. But tone doesn't matter when your learning. Also, over time it will fall apart. I have used it heavily over the past few years, and over time, the nut has falled out, the input jack has come loose, and my bridge pickup has fallen completely out. However, for a guitar of this price that is to be expected, and with enough creativity it can be fixed. This is not a guitar that you can use forever, eventually your skill level will outgrow the guitar, but it is still a very exceptional guitar and I could not ask for anything better for the price. I would stringly advise this guitar to anyone who wants to start learning, you will not be dissapointed.

I own this guitar, along with a number of others of supposed much higher quality (Les Paul Traditional, Fender Standard Tele and others) and while the build quality may be better in the other, I recognize that things have to be cheaper and corners cut to put out a guitar at this kind of price. The important thing is tone, and this guitar has it! Epiphone being a part of the Gibson family allows it to closely match their guitars to Gibson's, and while this isn't an LP Trad, it has marvelous tone, from clear, ringing highs to that really full, snarly humbucker rock. This guitar is really a sleeper - of much higher value than you pay for! I really love it!

this was my first guitar and it really kicks ass! i play mostly zeppelin, sabbath, iron maiden, and this guitar really puts out. It takes a while for it to get worn in but once it does you can just blare solos with it. i play it with my Marshall stack and i can get a really good blues rock -led Zeppelin- sound. i also have an awesome Ibanez but i stick with this when i play rock n roll and blues. overall this guitar is an amazing first guitar and i highly recommend it.

i bought this guitar in trans black, about 6 months ago, and could not be happier. i mean now that im playing more songs, the guitar can contour to many different styles of playing. since this is my first guitar, i don't have anything to compare it to, but i highly recommend it, just make sure that if it is your first guitar(or not), then buy a decent amp. other than that, there isnt really much else. overall, the guitar is sturdy, lighter than the guitars i picked up before, responsive, comfortable to hold, and just like most guitars, fun to play.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
