Q & A

Question: What case fits this bass?
- asked on Mar 11, 2024
Answer: This bass is a little too long to fit in an electric guitar case, a bass case is still required.

I started playing on this bass when I had just started playing, and still use it to this day. The look is so cool and the different sound settings are amazing. I love it. :D

I got this bass as a loaner when my Squier Precision went in for repairs. I was skeptical, seeing as the partial size bass I used to play didn’t have a very meaty sound to it and I expected the same from this one. It has really basic features, but has a good weight to it, and it is super easy to play. The rich, meaty sound I got really surprised me, in a good way. If I was in the market for another partial size bass, I would seriously consider buying this instrument.

I picked this up used a little over a year ago. 2017 model, made in Indonesia. Playing through a Marshall MBB 30, sound is solid, and it plays really nice. The finish is beautiful, seems too good for the price point.

I picked this up because I wanted to see how a short scale bass would work for me. I have some back and shoulder issues and playing a 34" scale was getting increasingly uncomfortable and my playing time was getting shorter and shorter. I've been spending a lot of time with this bass as a result. I decided to try this bass because it was clearly higher quality than a Squier Bronco, but was more affordable than a Fender Mustang level instrument. First the bad. There's only one pick-up right at the neck, so tonal variation is, shall we say, limited. Adjusting the tone knob doesn't really seem to have much effect at all. I knew this when I made the purchase, so it doesn't bother me, but this isn't for you if you're looking for variety in this regard. The only other issue is that the cable jack hasn't been great - the nut that secures it doesn't stay tight, and the jack itself was ridiculously tight at the outset. It's slowly loosening over time, so it's really not a huge deal, and for $400 I can't really complain. Another thing to watch out for here is neck dive - the SG body is really small, the tuning hardware is big for the size of the instrument, and the location of the strap peg at the bass of the neck all mean that if you let it go, the headstock will be pointing straight down in no time. Again, I new this when I bought it but if this is the sort of thing that bothers you, steer clear. Now for the good. It's pretty well setup out of the box. The action is perhaps a little high, but I'll just have it lowered when I bring it in for a setup/adjustment. Due to the relatively light string tension, this doesn't cause any playability problems, so it's really a matter of preference. The tuners are solid and don't seem to budge at all, the pots are smooth and everything works just as it should. Overall the hardware is great for the price point. Now, I may have just gotten a good copy, but I find the finish on the neck and body to be outstanding. They would be good for an instrument several times this price, so for a bass coming in under $400 it's outstanding. The fretwork and neck are particularly impressive - perfectly rounded and as smooth as they could possibly be. I've compared it directly to friends instruments costing four to five times as much and it absolutely matches the quality of those when it comes to the finishing on the neck - it's crazy good for the price. Finally, it's a lot of fun to look at and to play. Overall, I'm very pleased with this bass. My ratings don't reflect my true appreciation of it, but are representative of what I think most people might be looking for. Based on it's charm and the above average fit and finish for the price, I'd be inclined to give it a much higher rating. This was a very good introduction to short scale bass, and I'm looking forward to getting a Mustang in the near future for a some added tonal variation.

This was my first bass, and when I initially tried it, it was super heavy for an instrument. Then when I tried it when I was gonna buy, it was fine. Now for the features. There is 1 pickup which I don't like, cause I want more than 1. It is fun to play though. My advice is get this as a 1 year commitment and learn riffs and find other Basses for next year, cause the more I play the thing, the more I grow to dislike it. It is good shapewise. SGs are cool. If I were you, try other more expensive basses (like the thunderbird) to find what is right.

This is a pretty decent bass. It's feels fine and sounds fine. The sounds doesn't have much punch to it though. Stays in tune enough. The knobs on it are kind of weird. If you turn your tone all the way up, it will be at number 2, and if you turn the tone off the number on the knob is at 3 so that's kinda dumb haha but it's fine. I don't own this bass just rented

I'm mainly guitar player who has played 25 years. Wanted a bass around and I found this to be an excellent option. No it is not a top of the line instrument but for the price I am very happy. Excellent value. My full-time bass playing friends have fun with it when they come over - no regrets.

Being a guitar player primarily, I switched to bass and I found that this made it so much easier to play. I had a regular bass- but the short-scale neck allows me to do so much more. The only drawback- there is very little to no tone variance. I may be looking to go to another type of bass so I can adjust the tone according to the song.

this was my first bass guitar. at the time (as a beginner) it was a good bass. if your a beginer looking to spend a low budget then this would be pretty good. its been 2 years now and i still have this bass and it works really good. but when you good at bass then youll notice that this sound isnt the best and it is most definatly time for an upgrade. besides thats, its an alright bass.

This was one of my first bass guitars, purchased it a few years ago because of the sg shape. The finish is very nice, very durable too. The neck is fast and smooth, comfortable to play. The downside is the pickup. The tone is very muddy and they is not a lot you can do with the sound of this bass.

Owned a Gibson EB-0 back in 1968 and sold it a while ago. Lately I've regretted it as I play a Fender P bass and my fingers are getting stiffer with age! Bought this guitar last week and just love it. The finish is top quality and it plays easier than my old Gibson. I would recommend this bass to anyone young or old. It's heavy about the same weight as the P bass, but plays so much easier.

Purchased this bass for my son. For the money you can't beat it. No fret buzz, stays in tune, great bass hands down(for something that is made in china).

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
