Sixty years ago, in 1958, Leo Fender introduced the Fender Jazzmaster as the top-of-the-line electric guitar. In 1966 the instrument was updated with a bound neck, block inlays, and as a special aesthetic touch, a slick-looking matching painted headstock. These stylish visual cues--as well as the rich, multi-dimensional sound--made this one of the most sought-after Jazzmaster models. These sterling features are reproduced in the 60th Anniversary Classic Jazzmaster, adding a few modern enhancements to update this glorious instrument for the adventurous players of today.

The duet of Classic Series '60s Jazzmaster single-coil pickups have the authentic sound that made the Jazzmaster a darling of the underground. Warm and dynamic, they have just the right amount of punch for any music. The uber-flexible control scheme includes the famous Jazzmaster lead/rhythm circuit, unleashing an unheard-of variety of easily accessible tones from a single guitar. The "C"-shaped maple neck bears a modern 9.5"-radius fingerboard with 21 narrow-tall frets for easy playability. Other special touches on the 60th Anniversary Classic Jazzmaster include a vintage-style, 6-saddle adjustable bridge with "floating" tremolo tailpiece, vintage-style tremolo arm, tuning machines and strap buttons, synthetic bone nut, dual-wing string tree and 4-bolt neck plate.

Produced in limited quantities for 2018, the 60th Anniversary Classic Jazzmaster updates the classic 1966 model with features that modern, creative players are sure to appreciate.

Purchased this guitar a few months ago. Straight away, I needed to change the bridge. The vintage style bridge is a nightmare; strings pop and jump into other grooves, strings didn't align with the pickup pole pieces, wouldn't stay in tune. Installed a Mastery bridge, honesty, the best thing any Jazzmaster owner could do for their guitar. Unfortunately spending $300 for the bridge on an already $1,500 instrument, this takes it to American made Fender pricing. This fixed 100% of the noted issues. The pickups in my opinion are quite weak but they might suit your musical tastes. The hardcase is pretty cheaply made, it's not even molded for the instrument, looks like a generic case which would probably fit any sort of Fender instrument. Now for the good. The neck feels great, as a strictly Gibson player, the binding is very nice and smooth, frets are tall, feels better than some Gibson guitars I own. Also, had it set up with heavy gauge strings, 12-52s. After owning for just a short time, the gloss finish is beginning to show the wood grain so this will look really nice in a few years.

I love this guitar. It's my 4th Jazzmaster, and it is really good. Fit and finish are, for the most part, excellent; I was worried about the Pao Ferro but it darkened very nicely with a lemon oil dressing, and seems very similar to rosewood in terms of appearance and feel. I can't speak to resonance, but I am not noticing anything unusual that takes away from the sound. Pickups sound 100% Jazzmaster through an AC30 and a Bassman. I did have to go through all the nuts and fastenings (some were loose), and this helped the setup. The rythmn circuit volume and tone control weren't centered but I took care of all that. I assume it's the production process, as it was all there and wired up correctly, just the lock screws hadn't been synched right. The bridge is fine. So long as these are set up correctly the bridges should not be a problem; they are an excellent design if a little demanding at setup.. I also have JMs with Staytrem and Mastery bridges, the bridge in this instance is fine, intonates well and stays in tune. Clear nail polish on the grub screws seems to hold fine. The colour is lovely. The sound is very much the classic JM sound, and the slim/tall frets are a pleasure. This one's a keeper.

I've only exclusively owned Gibson guitars and never really cared for Fender guitars but more and more recently I've always had a thing for Jazzmasters, just everything about them is so unique. When Fender released this model, I instantly loved that it had a bound neck and the body matched headstock. Took a long while to finally come across the black coloured model (this review isn't for the fiesta red but just an overall review of parts/quality) I had some concerns with the slightly longer scale neck but honestly, I feel like the Gibson Firebird has a longer scale neck (even though I know it doesn't, just feels that way) so the neck scale isn't an issue and with the 9.5 inch radius, it's very playable. It was setup very well for the 9-42 gauge strings that come standard on this model. Overall, impresssed with the fit and finish of everything. The hard case does leave a lot to desired, Gibson definitely knows how to make a case, that's all I'm saying. Now, here's where the issues begin. Don't get me wrong, I did my fair share of research before purchasing, quite aware of the bridge issues on Jazzmasters but you don't know exactly how bad it is until you actually own one. First issure is the vintage bridge. The strings constantly pop out from groove to groove, doesn't help that it has these childish 9-42 gauge strings that you can bend right over the edge of the fretboard. Second issue is the extremely weak sounding pickups (again the strings don't help this either) To truly make this guitar playable in any respects I had to purchase a Mastery bridge ($350 after USD conversion/shipping and taxes) and had it professionally setup with 12-52 gauge strings ($100) which completely fixed all issues including the weak sound from the pickups as the larger string gauge gives a much thicker sound. So overall, a very well made Mexican guitar with a hard case for $1,500 but only if you don't mind weak sounding pickups and floppy strings. If you want it to play anywhere near as good as it should, you must invest nearly $500 which brings it to American made pricing.

I bought this guitar in vintage yellow brand new a month ago as I wanted another jazzmaster and I have not really been impressed with it. Pro's - Finish looks awesome - Neck feels nice to play - Stock bridge works just great, the intonation screws slip with vibration but a bit of loctite does the trick. - Neck binding looks good Con's - The pickups sound horrible, ive adjusted the height, tried different amps and changed strings and these pickups sound like garbage. In my opinion you shouldn't have to swap in a set of pickups into a $1500 guitar. - The pick up selector switch only likes being in the middle position, its so sensitive, i'm not sure if its a fault with mine or if they are all like this. - The rollers for the rhythm circuit feel scratchy and cheap. I chose this guitar over an american professional Jazzmaster as i liked the colour better and wanted to have the rhythm circuit. Absolutely kicking myself now and regret getting this guitar.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
