I have played this guitar almost every day, 5 hours a day, for almost 10 years. Every time I pick it up, it's like the first time. It is aging well, sounding better as it gets older. Extremely sturdy, and not too susceptible to weather. And I still haven't had to have a fret job. Absolutely amazing!

This guitar is made to play often and on the road! Bought this guitar and it just plays great and feels great! Played a lot of brands but the DRS1 plays the best.

Tried lots of different brands but kept coming back to the DRS1. Amazing sound! Most Martin snobs will disagree but the Mexican Martins are just as good as the American Martin guitars. Would take this over most of the higher end Martins!!

I bought this guitar a little more than a year ago and it's still so inspiring to play. It cannot be beat at this price point. The DRS-1 has rich, warm tone that we all associate with mahogany and the Richlite fingerboard makes me wish all of my guitars had the same material on them. This thing is rugged, too. It feels more robust than more expensive models, but it resonates so nicely. It stays in tune under heavy playing and through the long periods that I'm forced to leave it sometimes. Comes with a really nice hardshell case as well, as if it wasn't already a great deal at around $1000.

I'm a bass player that needed a six stringer to play for fun and to do some basic chord progressions on and this really fit the bill. It's a bit pricey but it's a Martin so you are paying for the name and quality in build and fit and finish. The guitar itself has a pretty dark tone to me, it's not overtly bright but does have some moments of brightness. A bit on the smaller side and the lack of a cutaway hampers my ability to play some grooves that go higher than the octave though I really couldn't find a better sounding guitar at this price range and or higher unless I put down about 3k to 4k+. Paid 1k with taxes and was worth every penny. Let's go Mexico! Down with TRUMP!

This this is great! Yes, it is made from materials that traditionalist would call 'less-than premium', but the Sapele is gorgeous and to be honest, I prefer the Richlite fingerboard to rosewood or ebony. Its so smooth and easy to maintain. I frequently leave this guitar all alone for 2 weeks while away at work and every time I return, it's still in tune. It's a little light on features and the electronics are very basic, but that's not much to complain about. Comes with a hardshell case that's pretty great as well.

Liked the feel & the sound immediately, and it's becoming my 2nd 'go to' guitar. (My old J 200 will always be # 1). Martin has been a bit confusing with 'solid mahogany' statements, as it's clearly a sapele top (poor man's mahogany?) Interesting little price change in the past Month, from just over $1000 to just under. I was OK with the medium strings, but have now installed lights & don't really notice a sound change.

this is an excellent acoustic guitar, no need to look any further. Solid wood, quality construction, balanced warm sound, easy playability up the entire neck. Comes with a great hard shell case all for about 700 bucks, no other guitar comes close. This is a great guitar...and the smell!!

Tried this one out early into my search for a new guitar. I proceeded to try all kinds of guitars in all kinds of price ranges, and just kept coming back to this one. Man, am I ever glad I did. The understated look, the feel, the smell (yes, the smell - seriously), but most importantly - the sound. This is the complete package. And for less than $800 with a hardshell case included? Can't be beat. Period.

I was at a local L&M and just for fun I was trying out the high end guitars. I strummed a few Taylors, Gibsons, and Martins. This one Martin stood out amongst all the rest - it was the DRS1. I almost fell off my stool when I saw the price. I plan to purchase one as soon as I am able.

Wow what a amazing guitar from Martin. Saw it on their site and it was love at first sight. Took it for a test drive and I was sold instantly. Rich full tone, reliable electronics and great looks all under $1000? Plus a hard case? Stop thinking about it and get one. You won't regret it.

After playing for 20 years, I was ready to step up to an intermediate/high end guitar. After trying out everything I could get my hands on I could not justify paying the extra for a J-45 or an American Martin above the DR-S1. This guitar sounds amazing, with deep rich tone that really vibrates. Very durable as well. Holds tuning even after much heavy strumming. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Plugged it in a few times and was impressed by the pickup as well.

This guitar is an amazing value for the money. Deep rich bass and a smooth balanced sound across all of the strings. I've tried many acoustics and Martin ends up being the best sounding, best playing guitar at a realistic price point. Plus...it smells great! You will not be disappointed.

Awesome guitar for a low price. Sounds like a Martin is expected to...deep lows...beautiful highs and penetrating mids. Fingerpicked or strummed this guitar is a real winner. Great projection and sounds natural plugged in. If you can get your hands on one you will not want to let it go!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
