I purchased this guitar from Tracey at the Toronto store (Thanks again!) He spent a good amount of time with me trying different guitars and manufacturers but I always came back to this model. It's playability and sound were amazing for the price point and with a current $100 off... no brainer! She sounds amazing for both finger picking and strumming styles. VERY happy with my decision to purchase the J-200. It's a bigger body that's for sure, but with that big body comes a big sound. Now, full disclosure... I am a bit OCD... so now I am on the hunt for the perfect string pairing. I currently have 4 different types to try, some coated, some not. Some light, some medium-light... Let the games begin! Thanks guys! LOVE my new guitar! #SupportYourLocalShop j.

I did a review a few months ago about this guitar and how much I loved it.....with one minor exception, I said the end pin was getting loose. Well the staff at L and M read this reviews, because Ron Elliot from Web Sales contacted me right away and said I could bring it in and they would fix it. And they did! right there, and free of charge. This is why I come back every time. So this is more a review of the store and their philosophy towards musicians. Thank you Ron.

I started playing this in the burlington store. One of my friends walked in while I was playing it. He had one, and his friend (also a solo acoustic player that plays around town) had one too. He told me how much he loved it. It plays like a dream with light strings on. And the sound is big. tons of bottom. If you like mid-rangey parlor guitars, this is not for you. Also if you like bright guitars like a Tak or a Yamaha, this is not like those at all. I have had Fender, Yamaha, Taylor. But this is my fave, by far. Two pickups, mag and piezo so you can blend them together. Or run in stereo. Tuner. End pin keeps getting loose, so that is a pain, but other than that, it has been fantastic.

I had the big Acoustic guitar room to myself on Sale Friday. I lined up these three guitars. A Gibson J200 Studio, The Epiphone J200 Studio (SCE) and The Epiphone J200 Inspired by Gibson. Note the Epiphone J200 Inspired by is not a 'Masterbuilt' guitar - check Gibson's website to see which ones are. Gibson J200 Studio: The sound was Rich/Full/Superb 10/10. The Playability was Very Good - 9/10. The Looks (its a plain version of the J200) - 8/10. Epiphone Inspired By: The sound is clear but 'middley' it sounds quite different from the Gibson. Lacking base, and it's more obvious the harder you play. When you play it quietly the sound is clear & tuneful (perfect intonation). Sound: 8/10 - I like to hear that base string thunder. Playability 10/10 - Yes, smoother than the Gibson! Looks 10/10 - Yes, even nicer than the Gibson! Beautiful Flamed Maple, real mother of pearl inlays, bone nut and saddle, flawless finish. The Epiphone J200 SCE Studio Gorgeous vintage colour with glossy finish - Beautiful! Cutaway Body -Gold Grovers, On-board Tuner & Pickup- Full thickness body. The Gibson and 'Inspired By' are both slightly narrower body guitars. The Sound was fuller than the 'Inspired By' but not as good as the Gibson: 9/10. The Looks: Beautiful detail and finish, but plastic inlays instead of Pearl. I swapped by 'Inspired By' for the Studio. The sound is a deal breaker - it has to sound right. I would like to play another 'Inspired By' to see if it sounds the same as the one I purchase and returned. Still a great guitar but not the sound I wanted. The Epiphone Studio J200 sounds great and responds (the sound improves and fills out) when you play a little harder.

I first rented mine then financed it. It's paid off now. I've had no issues and changed strings once. My ex 200 sce stays in tune well and the dual pick up work great. The feed back canceling button works and love the finish. It has a very good sustain on acoustic only which seems to translate well when amplified. Good price!

Although I shop at Long & Mcquade often enough, I was a tualy given this guitar as a gift about 7 years ago and am still amazed at the sound quality. Grover keys do an excellent job of holding the tuning. Electronics are reliable and a real convenient touch. I have never had any issues with this guitar. Bought a hard shell Epiphone case for it which offers "over the top" protection. At just under 800.00 CDN it is a very solid 2nd choice to the more expensive original Gibson issue.

I've purchased many acoustic guitars over the past few decades including Martin and Gibson models, but this was my first Epiphone acoustic and I've never been so impressed with a new guitar! For sound quality (both electric and acoustic), playability, action, buld quality, and not least, looks; this guitar has it all and for the price, this is a great value. I'm extremely happy with the Epiphone J200 SCE and would highly recommend it. If your on a tight budget, this is the best performance to cost ratio 8ve come across for a new acoustic guitar.

I had been playing guitars at all of the local L&Ms since January and made this purchase during Gibson month. My budget was more than $1700. Its got a full sound and the fingerboard is easy to run with my hands. What made me purchase it in Burlington is that everytime I go in the Acoustic Guitars are in tune. Bryan Henderson made it a perfect purchase along with HSC, T-shirt, and gift card which I going to use for a strap. He is 1 of the familiar faces I see keeping the instruments in tune.

I recently purchased the Epiphone EJ200 SCE after trying out many guitars in the local store. I was looking for an instrument that wouldn’t hurt my pocket book, and that would also suit an advance player. I hadn’t planned on buying a jumbo guitar, but after noodling on the Epiphone I was sold. The guitar was quite quiet acoustically for a jumbo model, but it shone when I plugged it in. The Fishman Sonitone pickup system brought this guitar to life with a very rich sound that sustained beautifully. I have been playing the guitar for over fifty years, and this Indonesian offering can keep up with most of the expensive models I’ve had over the years. I realize this guitar is targeted towards budget conscious players, but that doesn’t necessarily imply an inferior product. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this guitar.

Dave, Note: my rating is not worth anything as I have not played this guitar. But I loved my Casino Coupe. Played like a dream... a really good dream! I've worked retail, and corporate side in the sports industry, and reading everyone else reviews: you must have picked up a few guitars in a bad batch. It wasn't just your singular guitar- there must have a problem in the factory or with supplies, or equally shipping perhaps (humidity/temperature-time of year shipped, change in elevation?). That's weird though- that kind of stuff isn't normative, and to have 2 guitars like that in succession (there's a problem somewhere- the factory should be advised). Olivier below said that it was simply the best purchase of his life!!!! I had my eye on this guitar too. So good to know! Always noodle around fully in the shop, play the entire fret-board- just in case.

I bought this guitar 2 weeks ago from the Burlington Long and McQuade store. I was looking for a sub $1000 dreadnought/jumbo with a cutaway and a good pickup system. Once I was in the acoustic room, this guitar caught my eye right away. The "mustache" bridge is distinctive. Started playing it, and the sound....well, I loved it. It comes with Gibson 12s on it. I changed them out for Elixer Phosphor Bronze 9s. Still really good tone. I think the Esonics pickup system is great. Lots of variations there. I have played this guitar on 2 gigs already. Through a dual Bose system and through a big club PA. It really delivers. Lots of bottom without being boomy. The reviewers that say that it is thin, they might be referring to the EJ200CE. That has a laminate top. This EJ200SCE (Solid Top, Cutaway, Electric) has a spruce top. I certainly dont have that experience. I love this guitar and I am playing it every day since I got it. Recommended to my by another guitarist that plays all the time. Knocking .5 off for the End pin strap that I struggle with for about 10 minutes every time, to get the strap on. Must be a better way.

I purchased 1 of these guitars about a month ago . The B and G string make an unusual harmonic buzzing sound (not just a clear note) took the guitar back to the store 3 times had their guitar Tech try to get it to stop this strange buzzing to no avail . The store replaced the guitar took 3-4 days to find another one with the same pick-up system nano mag nano flex pick-ups. Seems not all of these guitars are made with the same pick-up system. I just picked up my replacement and it has the same problem. I wanted a Jumbo with the stereo pick-ups so there is no other choice .I'm going to ask for my money back (If you can't play the guitar it's worth nothing ) great wall hanger for 800. Dollars.

I've had this guitar for a few months now, and it is just about perfect. Really nice action, almost on par with my electric, which is great if you like to play higher up the neck. It has a rich, booming bass to it, but is well balanced with mids and highs. I find it pairs wonderfully with my voice. It is a jumbo, and can get a little uncomfortable if you play for a long time, but that is no fault of the guitar - just the nature of this body style. Interestingly it is not as loud as some of the smaller bodied guitars I have tried. That being said, it is very warm and soft sounding. Electronics work great and are easy to setup.

Great guitar. Great Sound! Whether Country, Rock, Jazz. It does it all exellentlly! Deep sound on top strings balancing to nice sound on treble strings. Have not plugged in yet. Why bother when I usually sing along and have the perfect tone on guitar on the many many songs I play and sing. Never thought I could pick on higher frets on an acoustic unless I spent money on gibson or gretch. You know 2000 to 6000 price range. So for chording (low or high frets) and picking. Its sound is great. Love It!

I'm an old retired guy that loves and is addicted to guitars. I have many of the top brands and have had most. I don't usually hype any single one. This one I am hyping. I am now busking daily to supplement my retirement and I wanted that loud full sound. This is the guitar...BETTER THAN ANY.... for this purpose. The built in tuner is a godsend because of dead on accuracy and speed. Sounds unbeatable when run thru a good portable battery operated busker amp. Funny enough that i didn't purchase one years earlier as it was under the price point of the guitars i was collecting. Silly boy...oh well. Get one u will love it.

The electronics are very good, and also have a built in tuner. The tone of the guitar is wonderful. However, for a jumbo acoustic this guitar is strangely quiet. My cheap dreadnaught guitar is somehow louder. But overall Wonderful guitar for the price. Definately a must buy it your budget is below 1000.

So I did the online research and was deciding between this one and a Taylor 114ce. I also looked at Jackson and Yamaha for a good guitar. I was willing to spend up to $1500 but when I went into the store and tried out all the acoustics, I found that the Taylor’s weren’t significantly better for the price jump. In fact there almost was no difference at all. I had to pick up a Taylor 814ce before I could say for sure that there was a big difference. Even the 414ce wasn’t much of a difference in playability and sound but I could start to see a direction that the Taylors were going in.

I tried many guitars in the $1000-$2000 price range before purchasing this one, and The EJ-200 was just as good as more expensive guitars made by other brands such as Yamaha or Taylor. I would purchase this guitar over and over again and am looking forward to playing it on stage for many many years! Highly advised to purchase this guitar.

I've had this guitar for about a year now. It is a great transition from a cheaper guitar, the changes are evident. It is easy to play, sounds gorgeous plugged in or on its own. Beautiful guitar, I strongly recommend it!

A great guitar if your looking for a guitar with lots of volume. The reason is because of the jumbo body. The grover tuners keep in tune for a long time iv had mine for a couple of weeks haven't tuned it once. The esonic2 built in tuner is amazing it pics the sound up very well. The guitar has a pic up so you can plug it in to an acoustic amp it works very well.Since im a country fan and i play country music it works very well with the volume and the crispy sound to it works perfectly for country, rock and more

This guitar is awesome!! the looks, the sound and the electronics..it's the complete package for a professional gigging musician whether busking or performing on the stage. I own the vintage sunburst one and I just keep getting compliments all the time on how it looks and sound. Make sure you get the one with the Solid spruce top as some of the older models of this guitar used to have a laminated top in them.

Rented one in Edmonton, didn't want to fly back with another guitar, so bought one back in Winnipeg. First one I took home had dead electronics (oops!, my bad for not checking). Took the second one home, spent a couple hours tweaking the nut, bridge and a little fret work from the 12th up. It is now a monster pickers' guitar. Great pickups. Run the whole neck for hours, never feels like a fight to play. Always hate to put it down. Best bang for the buck, HANDS DOWN!

Picked this up for my daughter, She played several guitars in the price range and kept comming back to this one. It sounds great and plays well both strumming and picking. It looks stunning too, the pictures here do not do it justice.

I have 3 Epiphone acoustics, a Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Custom, and 6 other guitars. Which one has my favourite electronics? This one! Wonderful Nanomag/Nanoflex pickups (see the picture of the preamp) with a blend slider, EQ, stereo out (with 2 endpin jacks), accurate onboard tuner that mutes when in use. Fun to play, great looks. The only knock is that the top is stiff, heavy and relatively non-resonant - the jumbo body helps to overcome some of that limitation. Great value, try it.

So I did a ton of reading online reviews, and played nearly every guitar (Ibanez, Fender, Taylor, Martin Yamaha etc ...) at my local shop. I jusy kept coming back the the EJ, every time. I feel it has one of the best combinations of look, sound and value of practically any guitar out there. I tried to talk myself out of it several times for a solid top .... but no, this was THE guitar for me. The looks on it are stunning, I ended up with the sunburst model, and it's SO rockNroll .. I love it! The bound fret board, the headstock, the inlays, the tough as nails finish and the cut-away kicks-azz. Only complaint is that a touch of the stain was marred near the neck under the clear coat, but its not easy to see, and the b string buzzes a tad at the 12 fret (no biggie for me) The set up was perfect, I did change the old strings for some Elixers which gave it more brightness. I love the deep sound it puts out, this guitar is loud! I did not hear a differece with the cut-away vs non, sounded similar to me. The tuner works great, altho it stays in tune very well, but its great to have on board just to tighten up between songs. The pick-ups are decent, I haven't used them much since leaving the store as I don't have an acoustic amp, but sounded really good on the Fender acoustasonic in the shop. I play a lot of Oasis, Beatles ... well pretty much an acoustic version of anything, and it all sounds awesome. For $500 can't see any other guitar competing with this one. I did play a Gibson in the store that made me waiver (not sure which model), but for twice the price it wasn't too tough a decision. I didn't even bother with stuff over $1500, because I can't justify that much for my use. If you're on the fence within this price range, give it a try, I love it and you will too!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
