Bought new in September 2019 from the Vancouver store out of several models they had. The sunburst one sang to me the most and was most comfortable for me so I bought it! The bass guys kindly threw in a gig bag for me too. The bass is amazing to play. The finish on the back of the neck is so smooth and doesn't feel sticky at all with heavy lacquer. The stock pickup is punchy, growly, and full of low end, like a Precision should! Only issue is that the bass was poorly shielded in the cavities so I had to do some maintenance and repair on my end. Usually they come well shielded but I guess this one was a bit of an one-off. Fender Ensenada is really hitting it out of the ballpark these days. The overall quality and materials used have increased. Absolutely happy with these!

I've owned several basses over the years, including Spector, EBMM, Yamaha, and other Fenders. I won't say that this bass is better than the rest because each brand makes excellent instruments. What I will say is that this is the best Fender I've owned (I've only owned Mexican-made Fenders). It's not a feature-laden instrument, but I don't think anyone buys a basic P expecting that. The neck is nice - wider than a Jazz neck, but not chunky like an old-school P. Rolled edges on the fingerboard would be nice, but not really expected on an otherwise high quality, mid-tier bass. Fit and finish on my bass is good. Needed minor adjustments out of the box, but those were easily handled with the included hex keys. I've had no issues with frets or electronics or anything. Only nitpick would be that the control cavity had some sawdust inside. I know this isn't harmful or anything, but for a bass this price, it would be cool to have it pristine. Now, I love this bass, and I have zero regrets buying it, but the cynic in me says that $100 of the price is for the name on the headstock. I'm not convinced this bass is actually worth almost $200 more than the Yamaha BB434 (as an example of a similar competitor's bass) , so I can't give it full marks for value. As far as sound, well, it sounds like a P, but with a little more bite to it. There are 500k pots inside mine, giving it a slightly brighter tone, but that's part of what I love about it. Great aggressive sound either pick or finger style, but mellows out nicely when the tone is rolled off halfway (or more). Suits me perfectly for a wide variety of rock tones. My first straight up P Bass, and I love it.

These are great sounding basses. Very punchy low end as a p-bass should be. My only complaint is that the knobs keep falling off. Even after cranking the screws on them, they tend to slip off eventually. Not the end of the world but it is kind of annoying. But it feels great to play. Every time I look at it, I want to pick it up and play it. [editor note, you have to have the screw on those knobs in just the right place (where the slot is) and they'll stay tight. Or try inserting a flat screwdriver into the slot to widen it just a bit]

After playing bass for 44 years, this is my first Fender Precision bass. I cannot believe I waited this long, this is such a fantastic bass I can't believe I own it let alone paid under $1,000 for it. As I bought it in the middle of winter and the weather was very cold, the fret ends were poking out of bit but John Molnar at the Langley store did a fantastic fret filing job for me and now it is like butter. I've also added a set of Labella Gold/White Tapewound strings and wow, THIS is what a Fender bass should sound like and I cannot imagine going back to roundwound strings on this bass! Do yourself a favor and go by this bass while you can it will be the best money you've ever spent!

I test played this alongside a mustang bass and a squier vintage modified PJ bass. Despite the difference in price I felt the sound and feel of the player P bass was well worth the added cost. The pickup has great definition and warmth, and the overall construction is great! Feels like a quality instrument from the bridge to the tuners. The buttercream finish is definitely something different and looks amazing. I think I'll be keeping this one for a while!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
