When you don't have (or want) an actual acoustic to accompany your electric, this pedal fills in quite admirably. I was originally trying to find a Fishman Powerbridge which installs like a standard tail piece on a Les Paul then get the Power Pot that replaces a tone pot to adjust your dry to acoustic signal meant to affect the bridge pickup. Too much work, cost and impossible to find. So get a pedal thats convenient like the Boss. I have the older AC2 which is the first version. Only thing lacking is the reverb. Some people have problems with noise or hiss but its important to play through the line out jack and have a clean tone on your amp and put it first before any overdrives so it gets the cleanest signal. The pedal controls are very responsive, The Piezo setting is like the Parker Fly piezo. My fave setting is the Standard. Jumbo is bit more bass and the Enhanced is trebly but the Body and Top which is bass and treble is very adjustable. Just wish there is more choices out there for this type of pedal as its much needed if you want a sort of acoustic sound without actually having the real thing. Would be nice to have a 12 string setting. It doesn't sound EXACTLY like an acoustic and you can tell there is something digital going on but for the price this Boss can't be beat.

I sat one evening trying to get this to work with my Helix. I wanted to have it run through unit to avoid splitting signal, and to use effects, like chorus. I could not get it, plus the hiss drove me nuts. Ready to return next day. I thought I would give it another go. I instead used bridge pickup, eq, compression, and chorus, and I nailed it. Sounds pretty convincing now. The hiss does not bother too much. You will never record with this, but live this thing could work quite well. I think I will keep it now. Try to be patient and experiment with different guitar, pickup selection, and models to find your sweet spot.

A post above (MEH) points out the noise with this pedal. It's a valid point, but there is a solution the takes care of most of that problem. Always use the "LINE OUT" for the acoustic signal... never the G.AMP out. The G.AMP out ads a lot of artificial high end to the acoustic sound that is very irritating and noisy... the line out (even if you go to a guitar amp) is much more natural and doesn't have anywhere near the level of noise.

Most people snub this pedal without taking full advantage of it. The AC-3 has two outputs, USE THEM! Send the electric signal to your amp, and the line out (acoustic sound) to the PA (or console, acoustic amp, etc...). It is quite convincing when setup as such. As for the sounds... I like to use the middle position on my tele, strat or les paul. The "standard" is great for finger style, the "jumbo" is nice for pop/country rhythms.. I don't use the others. The reverb is passable.. it's a nice touch when going direct to add a little extra depth.

I tried one of these pedals using my Gretsch and Fender Deluxe and was totally impressed with the sound. It gave me all the acoustic tones i needed regardless of the settings and had no distorted sounds at all. Price is fair and durablity seems to be the same as all boss pedals. I will be ordering one from my local Long and Mcquade and recommend this to any player who normally plays their electric but would like an acoustic sound without switching guitars.

Honestly this is not a bad sounding pedal AT ALL. This can definitely get the tone you may desire when you don't have a acoustic guitar on hand. I actually used this to do some recordings, the main issue I have with this pedal is that 2 of the 4 knobs on the pedal will introduce a large amount of distortion into your signal That being the "top" and "level" controls, you can get some really nice sounding stuff on this thing but at the cost of hearing extra fuzz on every single note you play. its shocking how unusable I found this pedal to be. after tedious amounts of tweaking I found that these knobs couldn't even get past around 10 o clock without introducing distortion, the manual specifically states that this can happen with raising these two knobs, but I thought that would mean somewhere past 12 o clock. Once you find that you don't actually have any introduced fuzz you notice that your tone is killed off and you aren't getting any sounds you want. Literally the pedal is silent until you play a note, you will hear that underlying fuzz that just ruins any attempt of playing an acoustic piece. Maybe it's my rig, my specific pedal or where I'm located but not even my ISP Decimator II G string could get rid of the added distortion in this pedal, while making all my other pedals added noise disappear. So either get an acoustic guitar or look for a different pedal seriously.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
