The Surge Mesh Kit is a complete 8-piece electronic drum kit that includes everything a drummer needs to play like a pro. It features a 10" dual-zone mesh snare and three 8" dual-zone mesh tom pads for great feel and natural response, plus an 8" mesh kick tower pad with pedal. Three cymbals provide a virtually unlimited range of playing expression: a ride cymbal, crash cymbal with choke function and hi-hat. Not only do the mesh heads deliver unmatched response and playability, the compact size means the Surge Kit goes where larger kits can't.

Expanded Sounds
The Surge module is filled with sounds - and surprises. The backlit LCD screen makes navigation a breeze. Drum and cymbal buttons are arranged to resemble the layout of a traditional kit, so it's simple to assign sounds and create kits quickly. The Surge module comes complete with 40 classic and modern ready-to-play kits. Easily tweak any existing kit, or create your own using the 385 superior drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds included in the Surge module.

Expanded Features
Inside the Surge module you'll also find valuable extras. The built-in learning features, sixty play-along music tracks, and an onboard metronome allow you to improve your skills. There is even an advanced sequencer and a performance recorder to expand your music-making potential. In addition to the USB MIDI connection for use with computers and mobile devices, the Surge module also offers up some old school MIDI In and Out jacks so you can hook up to your favourite MIDI-equipped drum machine, sound module or other audio gear. There is a headphone jack for private practice, plus stereo outs to connect to a PA system, amplifier, or recording console. The stereo aux input allows you to jam along to your favourite tracks on your CD or MP3 player.

It's a fun way to get into drums, but it's not meant for anybody more than a beginner or someone playing light jazz. My snare drum after 8 months of semi regular use now thinks that it's all a rimshot. So I either have a snare with no ability to rimshot, or I have a rimshot that can't be a snare. Basically thinks the two sensors are connected to each other now. Other than that my biggest complaint would be the lack of expansion; there's expansion kits for every alesis model other than this one, and the sounds are very lacking once you make a few kits. Feels very low end in general. If you're going to be using this kit for anything more than gentle recording I?d highly recommend something with more build quality and customization options.

Lots of great sounds and so far, the only issue I had was some hits were dropping on the snare and one of the toms. Simple matter of making sure the plugs are in tight and they're working like they should! Plug in a USB cable, hook them up to FL Studio and EZ Drummer and boom...you got any kit you want! Wish the pads were bigger but at this price point, you can't have everything.

I was under the assumption this would be smaller. I am 6’5 and I don’t find it small in the slightest. Mesh heads feel great. Pre made kits aren’t the greatest, took me about 15 minutes to make a really good kit. Tons of options. Mesh pads don’t feel small. For my first drum kit very pleased and if I outgrow the sounds than I’ll just buy a drum plugin a use those sounds

I made the mistake of thinking this kit would in any way compare to a Roland kit. I really only wanted it for triggering midi so thought it might not matter. I was wrong. It just doesn't compare in any way to the quality of a Roland kit. Hihat action is terrible. Quality of build is cheap. Sensitivity of mesh heads is not very good (especially weak for midi triggering), and drum sounds are mediocre. You're better off buying a lower model or used Roland kit. Will last longer and will be a far superior playing experience.

I bought this kit as my first drum kit and I love it. I'm no master by any means but it's always a good time playing on this kit. The mesh heads give off a great bounce when played and the cymbals could definitely be worse. My only major gripe with this kit is the kick pedal. It's super cheap and it comes loose every half an hour which gets quite annoying. Other than that minor gripe though it's a fantastic way to text the waters for electronic drums

Product Experience   I've tried it

Full mesh with a heavy stand and double beater-able kick for this price is what i wanted and so far so good. I got this to jam online and not piss off the wife with usual noise. I am a heavy hitter experienced drummer. Have hooked up to DAW (Reaper) and programs like EZ Drum etc...all works fine if you want to expand your sounds. Thanks L&M in Charlottetown to get it across the bridge in these lockdown times! Fantastic.

I was surprised by the sound and quality of this kit and the versatility of different kit sounds I can get. The mesh heads and cymbal chokes are a plus. The rack is sturdier than the Nitro rack and more suited to gigging. I use my Ludwig kick pedal instead. The custom sounds are what I use instead of the pre programmed ones. This kit is a great addition to my Ludwigs to give an even better range of sounds. For gigging or recording you don't need to mic anything, you go right into the pa or recorder. So far we're very pleased with the sounds of what we're recording. Gigging set up time is nothing, as well as portability and light weight. For the money they're a real deal, but try them yourself and decide.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
