Walton's have a few other tuneable models that Long and McQuades can order from them. This model needs water to bring down the tone of the skin. Although it is healthy to learn to play a non tuneable, it is easier to play a tuneable. This drum will get your chops going. They also sell tippers to play around with.

I decided to learn how to play the Bodhran and bought this because it was cheap and was made fairly well. Took it to my Bodhran instructor and it turned out that he learnt to play on the exact same model. While tuneables may be better, this is an excellent model to get if you want to see how interested you are in the instrument.

this was my first bodhran and had everything I needed to get started. since then I've tried different tippers and tunable models though I agree with reviewer Alan that tunable is better, I think this is fantastic value as a starter set and would definitely recommend it.
