Edward Van Halen earned his spot in the guitar tone hall of fame with the first note on his debut album in 1978. The guitar work on that album still boggles minds more than 25 years later. The tones that EVH got on that classic record are among the greatest ever, and a huge part of Eddies guitar sound has always been the MXR Phase 90. The Phase 90 contributed to the unbelievable tones on "Eruption," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," "On Fire," and "Atomic Punk," plus many other timeless Van Halen tracks. Now you can grab a piece of Eddie's magic with the new MXR EVH 90a collaboration between Eddie Van Halen and Dunlop Manufacturing that represents a totally redesigned, updated version of the legendary Phase 90. The EVH 90 will give you the same great spacey swirls and hypnotic warbles that made the Phase 90 famous. But the EVH 90 also features the all-new Script switch that lets you instantly toggle between a vintage, "Script Logo" phase tone and a more modern, in-your-face "Block Logo" phaser. Plus, the EVH 90 sports the greatest graphics in the history of rock: the red, white, and black stripes from Eddie's legendary Frankenstein guitar. Oh yeahit's also got a bitchin' new blue LED.

This was my first weird pedal and by that I mean the magical world of modulation. This is fun rolled into one fun little box. The controls are simple since it's only I knob and button. As I learned, you can achieve amazing phaser sounds at lower levels and fake uni-vibe sounds at the extreme end of the spectrum. Whether you are a EVH fan boy, psychedelic warrior, metalhead or a blues player, you can get a great sound. The best hidden feature is the little button which goes between the classic script to modern block sounds. You can get two birds stoned at once. The only phaser with more ability is the phase 95. 4 in 1 pedals!

I have had the reissue MXR Phase 90 with the block logo and the EVH sounded better with true bypass. The really bright blue LED was a good idea too. Although EVH kept the dial at 9 oclock, I keep it at 10 to be different and it sounds so warm and full. Sometimes I turn the rate right off for cleaner tones for strumming for a chorusy sound. The best phaser maybe for sound but not as adjustable as the BOSS.

The Phase 90 is the benchmark for phasers. This one has both the block mode (the more modern voicing) and the script mode can be accessed with the push of a button (a more EVH voiced, subtler phase). Set it at nine o clock for a noticable sweep that jumps out of the band mix or set it higher than noon for David Gilmour-like phasing from Dark Side of the Moon. If you are looking at a phaser, spend the extra few bucks and get the EVH over the Phase 90. It looks prettier anyways.

My name is Adrian Blaney lead guitarist for Tracenine, based out of Cambridge Ont, gig in Europe to USA. Being a HUGE !!!!! Eddie Van Halen fan I finally bit the bullet and purchased a MXR EVH Phase 90. My main gear for my amp is a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier with a reverb and delay pedal in the effect loop and a various pedals on my pedal board , now now squeezing in my new EVH Phase 90. I plug in using a CHARVEL ART SERIES ( black and white EVH stripes, looking down nice blue LED off the EVH phaser I put the dial to 9 o'clock and bamb !!!!!!!!I break into Euroption OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eddie would be proud of me right now !!!! lol my hairs stood up. The EVH Phaser had the swoosh feedback my boss pedal was missing , moving the dial to 3 o'clock I play Pink Floyd , wow I'm impressed now I had the scriped button in ,did it make a difference ? not too much but I could here a bit of a tone difference, is there a difference between the newer block logo MXR Phase 90 ? which is my next purchase but im going to do the "R28" scriped mod myself, then I'll A/B them to here for myself I love the EVH Phaser it's cool , maybe its a status thing for EVH guitar fans. The price is a little high ,would it make a difference if i used this or the new Block Phase 90 live , no !! it wouldnt but it looks pretty cool with the stripes I love looking at it lol, kind of cheap when I hold it, it's light weight, but to me its killer , regardless if your a EVH fan or Kieth Richards to Jimi Hendrix buy it you'll love it and crank it up . cheers

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
