These are probably the smoothest and most neutral headphones available. To say that makes them worse for listening than mixing and mastering is to miss the point, especially if you’re a professional musician or sound engineer. If what you listen to for enjoyment everyday is coloured, then your ears will adjust to that and mixes won’t come out as they should on the huge diversity of equipment that’s out there. Use as neutral as you can get for listening, your ears will adjust and your mixes will be better for it.

If you can, take the time to listen to these before purchasing as they are exceptionally neutral and will make most recordings sound as such. I found they lacked life, and often had harmonic distortion that made it very unpleasant to listen to. Not a bad idea to have this in your back pocket if you are mixing or mastering tracks because of the neutrality but if you are using them to listen to music I would look elsewhere. I went back to the using the beyerdynamic dt990 pro\'s for listening for now. If I could find a pair of headphones that was in between the eq of the dt 990\'s and the neutrality of the srh 1840 I would be a happy man.
I\'ll be returning these and continuing my search.
